  1. Well, I'm not at home at present, but I do not get ANY drop down entries in the fortifications list as I stated above. I was creating an Ardennes battle and it was US and German troops and regardless of which side I choose, if I had a fortification in their list, I was unable to assign a name, and therefore not continue. Also, I'm 100% certain that there were no items "auto added" and if they were they were removed...meaning all the units showing in the list had a name and a number assigned them. Maybe fortifications isn't allowed on that map...but then perhaps it would've been better to leave off the fortifications from the list if that was the case....if not, then all I can say is in this particular instance, if I add a fortification to the scenario, then I cannot progress because there are no names to allocated to the fortification (unlike Scribas pic, which shows he DOES have names in the drop down).
  2. Thx for the new patch. But...sorry for this...is this a bug? When I was using the battle generator, I selected some units, but could not progress from the unit selection screen, it was saying in RED SOME UNITS ARE NOT DEFINED. It turns out it was the Fortification I had selected for the one of the sides...but you cannot specify a name for the fortifcation...there is nothing in the drop down list...so it appears you cannot use fortifications in the drop down list. Is this a bug? And again, sorry for the early "whinge" and thx for the patch.
  3. I eventually finished this scenario. About 20 or so attempts. Ended up, if I "micro managed" my units ammo selection, I faired a lot better. For example, the two tanks (FT-17s) on the right flank...if I sent my Pz38t over there and attacked them, I found that if I specifically selected APHE and shot, they were taken out. Strange, because when I was leaving it to them, the shells were bouncing off...and it WAS APHE which was going down in quantity. Then I would, with the same tank, take out the guns up on the hill where the fortifications were. Again, if I specifically selected HE for this task, the guns went down quite easily. And for my troops...assaulting a French gun just got my troops killed, where as specifically selecting a soldier and selecting granades, I was able to take out the enemy guns with ease. So in short it seems micro managing will reap rewards.
  4. I don't see any penetration. And armour slope? I know it makes a hell of a difference, so what am I meant to take these tanks out with if my Pz38t is useless, regardless of effective range, because of armour slope? I might as well chuck ice creams at them. Does the editor have an ice cream van in it?
  5. It's probably no surprise to anyone who reda my post that I am a little infuriated with the German campaign, indded I cannot get past the second Mission - Dunkirk. Particularly, rather bemused by the "inexperienced" uber accurate and deadly French, and the pathetically, almost indecent, innacurate Germans. However, specifically,I'm missing the numbers or reading them incorrectly perhaps, but I could do with one of you armchair generals explaining this to me... I have a Pz38t with a 37mm KwK 38(t) L/45 - I'm not showing off here ...it doesn't mean a great deal to me...just reading what the game is telling me. Now the APHE for this tank, of which it has 15, have armour penetration values of 100m - 47mm 500m - 38mm 1000m - 31mm and so on. Well, I've inched this tank up the right hand flank of this map and eventually get a sighting on a French tank - a FT-17. Now this tank has, apparently, armour protection of... Hull f16 s16 ba16 t8 Turret f22 s22 ba22 t8 Now, by my reckoning, my Pz38t should be able to penetrate this tank, from the front with APHE at >1000m. Now, taking into account innacuracies in figures i.e. not taking the printed figures as gospel, is it not reasonable to assume that at <500 range, I should be able to knock this out? As it played out, I was 130 yards away and I used ALL 15 rounds of APHE, each one hitting, and I did see them hit, and this thing was still alive! I reloaded the scenario and went to the same location but farther to the east this time and again, all rounds bouncing off even though I had closed to 70m...then I was taken out by a French AT gun from what must've been 800m or so on the far bank up on the hill?? I'm not bothered about being taken out at that distance...it's perfectly feasible I'm sure. I don't know what kind of French gun it was or it's abilities and range effectiveness. Now, I am a novice at this game, but giving the user the information i.e. armour protection, armour penetration values, range, allows them to make educated guesses as to where they have to be to make an impact on the field...but removing the effectiveness of that information by porked calculations in the background is counter productive and infuriating...I've played this damn scenario about 20 times now with no progress and easy difficulty!. Sure, if I close to within 200m of an FT-17, I'm sure there will be a few rounds that hit at a funny angle...but all 15? And no sign of visible damage? No gun knocked out? No track knocked off? No damaged turret? Now, if I am wrong, then I'm all ears as to why a Pz38t at 130m and >100m cannot penetrate the armour of a FT-17 with APHE ammunition.
  6. Got it, thank you very much...although I'm doubtfull an extra tank, squad and barrage will help. I could do with some Tigers!
  7. Nikki That link is to a download site that seems adamant to get me to sign up rather than have the free download. I went there, sat looking and waiting for some button to show up under Download you file here...eventually I worked out that I had to click that text...so I did, and it took me to a page saying I could only do 1 concurrent download and I had to wait 30 seconds until I could download...so I went back to the main page, waited for over a minute, clicked the text again and lo and behold, it took me to a different page saying I had used all my allocated downloads (1 being a non member) and that I had to sign up!! Well, needless to say, they aren't trapping me like that Can you email it to me pls? wmar67 at yahoo dot co dot uk. Thx if you can, no worries if you can't....I may give the Russian campaign a go.
  8. Sorry for my rant. The game is good. It's damn sexy. It's just too damn hard. Thx for taking the time to help out. Much appreciated. Of course I won't give up on it...how can you. It is truely beautiful.
  9. Thx for the tips, Nikki, but I'm truly bored with this scenario now and thinking about just shelving the campaign and trying a different one, although I doubt it will be much different. I have crap gunners, they have good gunners, I expect that's the way it is throughout the campaign. Now this may be realistic, but in a game, I want it to be enjoyable, and when it becomes infuriatingly hard, it becomes a chore and, therefore, not fun...taking away the pleasure that should be gaming. I'm playing it on easy. It's not like I'm expecting anything special for being a dullard. I just expect a game to be easy on easy. Then I can play it on medium, hard and very hard as and when I feel confident with the mechanics. Thx for the help, seriously, but I think I'll move on.
  10. Look, I must've played this mission a dozen times and I cannot get over the brow of the hill! Someone suggested attacking the French guns, taking them and using them against the French tanks. Now I'm not strategist...I'm a programmer, but seriously...what is with the SS style hit squads! It takes them almost zero time to zero in on any spotted troops. I've sent my 2 squads up the middle, line abreast with a tank in support at the rear of the each line, 1 squad with a tank up the right flank and my two biggest tanks sitting on the hill for longer range spotting and support. I'm inching my way up...but immediately my troops are spotted, they are wiped out by the guns. In contrast, my equipment can't hit the side of a barn door. I had one French tank sitting on the brow of a hill, viewable by both my tanks (Pz IV Ausf C I think) and both my tanks are firing at the French tank....not a single hit. Potholes all around this French tank and nada...not a scratch! But as soon as my troops have been spotted, they are no more!
  11. Thx freeboy Same freeboy from Matrix?
  12. I can't seem to find a button that "deletes" a group. I selected a load of soldiers and assigned them as group 1...later I wanted to split them...so I selected half of them and set them to group 2 - but everytime I select group 1, it selects the original Group 1. I have tried selecting half, assigning as group 1, select other half and assign as group 2. When I do this, I can select group 2 (only half) but when I select group 1, I select all the troops again!
  13. This game is as hard as nails! And I'm playing it on easy. In the first mission (as Germans) I think it's Dunkirk where I have to attack the French lines...but my tanks get taken out within minutes. I've tried taking it easy...nice and slow...but as soon as an enemy is spotted...BAM! Tank gone. I take out most of the infantry attacking down the right flank with artillery and mop up with my infantry and the two tanks I have with 20mm main guns. The 37mm Main guns, I leave on the hill as kind of over watch. But I cannot make one tank survive. What are the tactics for this one pls? Any pointers? Thx
  14. Thx I'll go and repost it over there. Sorry for the inconvenience
  15. Woohooo...found it! Now I need to do some file maintenance on my email system.
  16. mmm...this is bad news. I can't find my activation key! I can't find any email from Battlefront...nothing Oh dear. I'm normally very careful with things like this.
  17. Hello Mr Hertston (from Matrix?) I think I did have a registration code...I certainly don't have the boxed version.
  18. Oh...and one other thing, I can't seem to find a button that "deletes" a group. I selected a load of soldiers and assigned them as group 1...later I wanted to split them...so I selected half of them and set them to group 2 - but everytime I select group 1, it selects the original Group 1. 20. I have no idea to be honest. I'll have to check my emails
  21. Well, the manual has Battlefront.com written all over it, so I guess it was from there. It's just that it could be a mystery...see, I got ShockForce from Paradox/Gamersgate, so I thought I had gotten this from there, but when I went on to Paradox website, they don't have it listed, so I guess it must've been here.
  22. I've just discovered one of the problems with multi-release - multi-published games...I have no idea where I bought my copy of ToW!! I have the patch named ToW_addonpatch_update.exe, which was the one with the Moscow addon, but I don't know where to check (now or in the future) for new patches. Anyone know how I can tell? 23. I apologise in advance if this has been asked or is mentioned somewhere, but I did a search on Field of View and came up with 3 posts, all irrelevant to my issue. When playing, if I select one of my units, all the units that can't be seen by the unit I have selected disappear. Now I know the reason why this is programmed in, and for the enemy, it's a good thing. I want to select a unit and see what enemy units that selected unit can see....but I don't want my units disappearing. Is this by design? Is there a reason why it's beneficial to have my units disappear? I cannot think of any plus points for the system being this way and it just irks me everytime I play. It's quite disconcerting to have your units disappear when you select a unit...not to mention when you are moving units...not having the situational awareness of your other units is not good for me. So my question is, will this be changed?
  24. I don't post here very often, so I will start by apologising if anything I mention is covered. I know you've taken a lot of flack for this game. I know not everyone is happy with it, but I would like to say thank you. Anyone who allows me to see an M1Abrhams in motion in a game the way this game does deserves kudos. I think the animations are superb in game, so whoeever done them I think, deserves a big pat on the back. Everytime I set my M1 in motion I am all over it with the different cameras...pure beauty in motion (when am I going to see a nice big Challenger?) As for the game, I do enjoy it so far. I don't mind that real time is there as with the pause (and issue orders during pause) is essentially the same but with a more "configurable" stop. So I just wanted to post my positive thoughts on it. I like it and I am looking forward to you including some British forces (I think we have some!) in an expansion or the next game. Thx
