  1. I'm also a newbie, and not english-speaker, so please forgive me for the lot of errors Here we also speak American with our own kin It is correct: the germans drove the americans out os Kasserine pass, but I'm so clear that it was not a militar parade, dunno? Rommel was and outsanding commander not for moving their panzers upfront and order them to start firing the Tommies. Answering the main question: what about hull down? What I did was: move all the vehicles to the left. Then fired a smoke barrel right in front of the Grants and advance, recons ahead, as quick as I could: there was a small slope that covered my tanks right so close to the enemies juggernauts. So I put them astern and showed myself in hull down: I beated all the grants losing only 2 MkIII (one of which was destroyed by an AT cannon on my left). Routing enemies infantry was not difficult. Facing the Shermans was another question; but I tried to maintain the most of my tanks close and in formation. Here my Panzers commander didn't do their best: two veterans were firing one newbie at 50 m and both failed the shot. The Sherman didn't and this stupid maneuver cost me one of the Mks. For me this scenario with germans remained me when playing CMBB with soviets: you have good weaponry, but should know how to use it correctly! Putting 88's on a hill and waiting for it to kill every foe vehicle is not a challenge S! [ December 23, 2003, 06:35 AM: Message edited by: Caronte ]
  2. The Von Lauchert is no chance for russians anyway: -This is a Meeting engagement. There are no mines, no pillboxes, no trees... There's nowhere to hide, except a not so deep stream in the middle of the map. -Only the first 3 platoons of T34 and maybe the Su122 and SU152 could do their way there. (T70 are not considered; I usually sacrifice them to ensure the most of the previous tanks arrive safe to the stream). You can display an ambush with about 15 medium tanks (the most regular and some green/veterans). -The reinforcementes are released when the Panthers arrive so close to ensure the most of the russian reinforcements to be destroyed just in a moment if they show their mouth. I usually put them just after the hill on the right. -For the ATs and infantry, the problem is the same. Maybe the Panthers would spend more time and ammo, but the result is the same: the most of them killed. The only way I felt the 76 mm to be useful is firing smoke to cover an attempt to arrive to the stream of one or two tank platoons (expecting at least having about 50% of them destroyed). -The best scenario I ever obtained is those 12-15 tanks ambushing the Panthers reaching the stream. I send my tanks out (snoop & scoot), and try to hit the side armor of the monsters, while the tanks on the hill apears, hull down, to cover the ambush and maybe to achieve a fortunate shot. -The problem is that as far as they advance forming a line, those on the right part of the advance could see my tanks on the left, and viceversa. The result, the same: the T34/76 is no rival to the Panthers frontal armor, while the SU152 usually fail before the Panthers knock it. None of the tanks in the rearguard are a serious challenge for the Panthers at a so long distance. -The best I ever obtained was knocking 6 Panthers, and a minor defeat. As Jason C told before, there's no real enjoy in playing as german. You only have to set one half of the Panthers covering the enemies advance, while the others advance to the stream, using the panzergrenadiers to reveal the enemies position. Not so bad to begin and to probe how deadly is the loooong 75 german AT gun. ) Historical? Don't know. I remember not so clear that after going through the first infantry and AT positions, they found the regular soviet armor units, trying to counterattack the germans vanguard units. The best units, the guards armor brigades, were maintained int the rearguard under Rokossovsky until the battle at Prokorohvka. For me, as russian player, seemed stupid launching and armor counterattack in a so clear scenario, with no AT guns, mines or pillboxes. This would surely be different if you put the soviet in a defensive position, or the flags in the rear kills...
  3. It was a QM with 1500 p per side. A combined force, June 1943. You can spend aroun 190 points in artillery or air support, and with that amoun you cannot bought two 109 green, but one regular or veteran. I've seen the files again, and that is: 4 bombs in the 2nd turn, and 4 more in the 6th one
  4. I'm playing a PBEM game with one friend in June the 43. He buyed a fighter bomber support 109G6/R1 which could carry 550 lb OR 4*110 lb bombs. Nice, then it could sustained 3 more attacks using the guns. However in the actual game it launched 4 bombs in the 2nd turn with little damage; 2 turns after that it destroyed one of my M5 with the guns. The big surprise was in the last turn, when I saw the 109 droping other 4 bombs to destroy one of my At guns! Is this possible or a bug? Thx in advance for your help! ;o)
  5. Hi guys! I have a very stupid but also important question about the vehicle needed to embark a russian artillery spotter. For me is quite strange as a 2 men unit cannot be mounted in a jeep, tank or MG carrier! What's the reason for this? i can understand that he rear part of a tank is not a nice place for a radio station, but a light transport... Thx in advance.
  6. Thx for your answers: Thx, Maus. I didn't know about winace. I'll pay a look on it. Zukkov, I was speaking about zipped files, including .zip, .rar, and PBEM files. Whatever the zip system, it was always over the 1 mb allowed by plain hotmail account. Thx for the correction. I love using those latin classic signatures: "Quod natura non dat, Salmantica non praestat" or "Si vis pacem, para bellum"... (So sorry if I was wrong in any of these citations; no traslation 'til the next reply ). I love classical history and Mythology, as you can also observe in my nickname! Yeah, I saw it yesterday: the PBEM file seemed 1 Mb only, but hotmail reject it as a 1.3 Mb file  So the question remain unknown: How many points should I get in the QMB to ensure not having this kind of problems in PBEM games? What increases those files the most? The amount of troops? Firing actions? Movements? ..? [ August 28, 2003, 08:10 AM: Message edited by: Caronte ]
  7. Hi friends. I'm a newbie and since a pair of weeks I started several PBEM games. But I have a hotmail account and now the files are becoming huge! Yesterday I wasn't able to sent one of the files, either it was deflated by PBEM helper. Is this a problem with all the scenarios? How should I choose it to ensure the files could be sent easily? Thx a lot in advance for your help! Caronte
  8. It seem a question difficult to answer. For germans I agree with any gun above 75 mm and long enough (for me is not so important if towed or not: Panthers and Tigers seem usually used as mobile-long support AT guns). For the soviets, I mean tactics used in Kursk, and I get the answer about the probably omst worthly soviet tank buster: a combination of terrain, AT mines, hidden ATs, CAS and guns above 85 mm. But no one says nothing about the Iosef Stalin juggernauts? I know it was ready only at the final act, but at least at CMBB it seems the most lethal soviet tank, if being used correctly and with experienced crew. Panzerscherk are very knocking when they attack by surprise and get several tanks in a minute (I suffered it right yesterday ). But only under special circumstances. Pointing out about the 20 mm airplanes guns: It is not only a matter of ammo diameter, but also of kynetic energy: bullets falling at a very high speed could be probably deathly for most of the engine or fuel depot protection. But also rockets! Plz don't miss the lovely Typhoon!
  9. Dear CM players, I am a newbie CMBB player. I'm from Spain. This forum is GREAT, and I'm learning a lot about the units and tactics. The game is so much deep and complex that I expected before playing it. I must also say that I usually play russians (mainly cos my friends prefer germans, and that's the way to find IP players easily ). Is hard living the russian way of life in those green tanks, facing the Tigers and Panthers claws And finally the question: Yesterday one of my KV2 faced a PIIIL at 500 meters. It was a green crew, and after 2 min firing on each other (and no severe damage by no one), my crew flee from the tank. How is it regulated? I say: How much fire should get a crew to flee from the vehicle? Doesn't matter if the most are ricochet? Thx a lot again, gents.
