Hello,
please excuse me in advance if my question is too off-topic or too personal, but I'm just interested in the personal background of the typical Strategic Command Player.
I assume that most players are (of course) male, are 30+ years old or even "much" older and live mostly in the US and Europe. If someone doesn't want to answer, feel free to do it not.
Well, let's start:
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Origin: Germany (Saarland)
Thanks in advance for your patience!

Can it be realized by the game engine?Originally posted by Blashy:I have to say that Rolend has the best idea I've seen so far.

Rambo,
one short comment: it took nearly a whole year for the superior allied forces (concerning manpower) to defeat Germany in France (which was very weakened due to the war with the Soviets), but it took only four weeks for the German army to defeat the much larger French army and the BEF in 1940. Germany was totally outnumbered in 1944 by the Allies and Soviets, that's a fact!
Besides of that, you actually don't use a polite and kind language in this forum. Sounds a little bit strange to me. Sorry.

It's off-topic, but I say it in this way: no, much more people in Germany (and Europe) will celebrate, if this emperor does not reign any more:Originally posted by jon_j_rambo:Question: In Germany, do they celebrate D-Day, June 6th?

That's absolutely correct!Originally posted by Exel:For SC2 I think the soft build limits do fine.

@Edwin P.
Wow, that's really cool!
Interesting is the fact that you call Kesselring "Smiling Albert". There's no German source of this nickname, thus the Allied soldiers must have given it tho him.

Is it thus not possible for the game engine that the amphib tech does affect both cost AND range. If not, my above proposal is useless.Originally posted by Exel:Second I think Hubert already made a conscious design decision with the new amphib tech effecting the range only.
Nevertheless, the default amphib range should be set to 4.

I also think that the amphib range should be reduced to 4. The US/Uk should therefore have already "1" tech value for amphib, Germany "0" at the beginning of a game.
With an (start) amphib range of only 4, it's much harder IMHO for the German to launch a Sealion early in the game.
In order to make amphib operations even more difficult at the beginning of the game, the Amphibious Warfare tech should not only increase the Amphibious Transport range by 1 per tech level, it should also decrease the initial cost for loading a unit in an amphibious boat. The original cost for amphib operations must (of course) be higher than now at the start of the game, e.g. 80 credits.
Example:
- Amphibious Warfare tech = 0, then the cost for loading a unit into an amphibious boat = 80 credits.
- Amphibious Warfare tech = 5, then the cost for loading a unit into an amphibious boat = 30 credits.
See what I mean? What do you think?

Yes, this would be a great enhancement of the game, since it's quite odd to look at the screen doing nothing for minutes.Originally posted by Sombra:Regarding boredom: Would it be possible to move over the map while waiting like in SC1? Or some kind of windowed mode and you can do something else while your opponent moves his units?

At least 4 turns. Who knows this exactly?Originally posted by Kuniworth:Hi, if a unit is destroyed it is purchaseable again at 60%. For how long is it rebuyable at that price? Indefinately???

If they don't release the patch before Friday, 9th June, it's over for me, and I'll sell my German version.Originally posted by Hyazinth von Strachwitz:Thx.... but I think it won`t take them too long.
Nevertheless, I'll have not much time to play SC2 then due to the Fussball-WM 2006 (Soccer-WM). That's the only thing which makes me mad, since this is the last weekend before July on which I can play without being "disturbed" by some soccer games.

Yes, that's sad but true. You have to wait until the German publisher (Mostwantedgames) releases the German patch for the game.
I hope that this will be soon, otherwise I'll sell my German version.

That's absolutely true. I would suggest that that the maximum amphib range for Germany should be 4 at the beginning of the war in order to reflect that the Germans actually never had a strong (amphib) navy in contrast to the Allies.Originally posted by Terif:German amphib range is still too large as long as there are no other factors to make Sealion more difficult. They can still prepare outside of enemy sighing range and Royal Navy can´t patrol in front of the enemy ports without beeing blown to pieces . So Sealion is still a problem, but perhaps the next patch... .
I wish I would possess the US version of the game, too. Damn, this weekend would have been great in order to test this patch.

Yes, and if a user wants to use the real Axis Leader pictures, he can implement them easily on his own by replacing the placeholder pictures (just like the "Historical Flag mod").Originally posted by Edwin P.:Franky-Boy;
Just what I was thinking, use blank portraits as place holders for pictures you don't have or can't use.

Yes, thus you may "censor" them, perhaps like this:Originally posted by Edwin P.:In some European countries including photos of the Axis leaders may not be good or acceptable business practice.
Thus, you don't come in conflict with national law. This, of course, does not count for axis generals.

Yes, this would be great, especially the historical pictures of generals and leaders. For the German version of the game, you may of course add a "censored" picture of Hitler.
Some examples of pictures you may add:
This would really add MUCH flavor to the game.

It's really sad that there is no official statement concerning the international versions of the patch! Who is responsible for the German version of the Patch? Mostwantedgames.com or someone else (Frogster Interactive).
I wish I had bought the U.S. download-version, since it is cheaper, needs no CD and finally is better supported.
Maybe I'll sell my German version on ebay.de and buy the original version from battlefront.com. But I don't like spy software like elicense, that's the problem!

Yes, that's true. Nevertheless, there should be some official info concerning the international versions of this game and the patch 1.01.Originally posted by xwormwood:Than learn this lesson well:
never buy a german version, game or DVD: dubbed versions will suck in the majority of cases.

Unfortunately, there seems to exist a problem with the patch. I applied it to the German version of the game. But as soon as I wanted to start the patched game, it refuses to start, since the file "elicen40.dll" is missing.Originally posted by Skuderian:Is this patch compatible to the german version of the game?
Can anyone confirm this. Will there be an international version of this patch soon?
Thanks!

Yes, the bad defense (values) should also be fixed in the next patch. Attacking is always to easy, since the losses for the defender are much to high compared to the attacker (in most cases).Originally posted by Sombra:Since defense in SC2 has less to do with strategy then with favorable weather.
