  1. Already brought up a couple of times. Beta testers confirmed that they've brought this issue up on the beta forums, so it is definitely being looked at. No official word from BFC, but I'm hoping we'll see some adjustment to on-map mortar call times when the spotting unit is within shouting distance of the mortar within next patch or two.

I had not seen that. Good to know. The oddly long delay for on-mortars has been one of my key concerns with CMBN. I hope the review results in a reduced delay. (Assuming it would be historically correct). With a five minute delay for on-map calls for fire, I've stopped bringing on-map mortars since off-map is more flexible only sightly slower.

  2. It's amazingly hard to come up with period photos of Normandy with crops in them.... And damned if I know whether they're June, July or August.

The crop growing in these photographs is obvious. Clearly, they're growing Panthers. I would guess the photos were taken in mid-August since the Panthers are almost ripe. (Panthers were normally picked in early September, which is why it was so important for the allies to seize the Norman Panther fields from the Germans before harvest).

  3. Okay, I just checked out your website. You are an aviation artist. It looks like cool stuff. Alright, alright . . . I relent. You can keep doing that too. But you might want to cut back on sleep and other distractions in order to keep up your mapmaking quota. :)

  4. Pete, if your maps for CMBN are anything like the brilliant ones you did for CMSF, then this is going to be good.

Don't think for a moment, however, that one map is enough. No, you must make many, many maps. I hereby demand that you quit whatever it is you presently do during the day in order to concentrate full-time on making CMBN maps. :D

  5. Its a really big game as it is, especially for a small outfit like Battlefront. The more they put in the more they would have to delay the game, so they had to make some hard choices about what they had time to include, design, and test.

They'll add more content as they add modules. We'll have to pay for them of course, but we're already getting excellent value for money, and I don't mind forking out from time to time to keep them in business.

  6. One comment. I only do operations in CMx1 and looking at campaigns in CMx2 they are not the same beast. CMx1 operations fight over the same map while CMx2 does not allow you to fight over the same map more than once. The damage to buildings, craters and what ever is not saved. So a CMx2 campaign is a whole new kettle of fish.

If I understand Concord correctly, he is proposing a campaign rather than a CMx1 style "operation." There have been various campaigns conducted over the years using CMx1 games (and I imagine CMSF as well) that do not involve operations consisting of battles linked by the game programming, but rather battles linked informally by the intervention of referees. So, yes, it is an entirely different kettle of fish. But those fish can be very tasty if properly prepared.

I believe Concord mentioned for example his participation in the long-running Onion Wars Campaign, which uses CMBB. Check out its site at: http://www.onionwars.net/

By the way Capt. Cliff, it looks like you have posted 29 messages over 9 years. You've been even more of a lurker than me! :)
