  1. Degus, Sorry. Should have posted this earlier. I found several problems while trying to correct this problem. I found that the GeForce 2 MX/MX440 card was sharing an IRQ with the modem! Check to make sure that your video card is not piggy-backed with any other hardware by going to "START", "ALL PROGRAMS", "ACCESSORIES", "SYSTEM TOOLS","SYSTEM INFORMATION". Once you have that open go to "HARDWARE RESOURCES" Click the "+" sign and then click "IRQ". Make sure that nothing is sharing the IRQ with the video card (that is not video card-related). That being said, my problem turned out to be much more serious in the end... My AGP slot was fried! I used it as an excuse to by a new computer and so solved my problem. However, give the above IRQ test a try. Also, try running other 3D games on your system. The way that I found out that my AGP slot was cooked was by running all my WW2 flight sims on the old card. They all had the exact same fault. If your system ran CMBB and CMBO well and now it runs like ***t, that may be something to look into (the slot the card goes into on your mother board). One added note; rolling back my drivers to 30.82 (or whatever they were) seemed to help only in the short term. Before long, the whole thing was a mess again. Also, I tried a new graphics card (a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 with 128 meg's of ram) thinking that my old video card was dead. Through all of this I discovered that the AGP slop was gone. I'm not a hardware wizard by any stretch, but I hope this provides some help. Have you tried going to the troubleshooting section of your video card and turning off various functions in increments? Sometimes this helps to determine if the card is dying, your directX is messed up, etc. Good luck. 2521.
  2. That is one fine looking panzer! Great job and great attention to detail!
  3. To all who have had this problem, Schrullenhaft suggested that I roll back my nVidia MX/MX440 drivers from 41.09 to 30.82 to correct this annoying stuttering and freezing. It seems to have worked! Don't know or understand exactly why this is the case, but it seems to correct the problem. I will play the game for a few hours to see if the problem returns. Thanks to Schrullenhaft for the advice.
  4. Sorry, I cut myself off... Windows XP Service Pack 1 Windows XP Hotfix Q810833 Windows XP Hotfix Q810565 Windows XP Hotfix Q329170 Windows XP Hotfix Q328310 Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) [see Q329834 for more info] Windows XP Hotfix [see Q329390] Windows XP Hotfix [see Q329115] Windows XP Hotfix [see Q329048] Hope this info helps. I'm interested in seeing if rolling back the drivers for the video card also resolves a graphics problem I'm having with Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 3. Thanks for all the help and advice.
  5. Schrullenhaft, D/l'ing XP nVidia driver 30.82 as I write. I came to the same conclusion myself. The drivers for the video card were of an older make before the system restore. Hopefully, this will address the issue. The mouse is a USB. There are only two other USB devices connected to the computer, a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick and the computer keyboard. These things have been here since the computer was born. I agree, the devil is in the system restore. AS for XP updates, here is the list:
  6. Well, I'm back... New drivers for SoundMAX, deleted all the old (useless) programs that came with a factory re-install, no programs running in the background, anti-virus protection disabled during play, etc. Still getting this annoying stutter and partial freeze during play. It only lasts a minute or so and then the game plays fine for a while. After about 5 to 10 minutes of play the glitch happens again. One thing of interest... when I move the mouse the stutter seems to get worse or lasts longer than if I simply leave it alone. Tried d/l drivers for the mouse I have (logitech optical wheel mouse), but this seemed to make the problem worse! The glitches would happen more often and be more severe. Again, please help. This game used to run very well on this system and now it is very annoying! Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks for the reply. You are right, it is directX 8.1. Should I upgrade to 9.0? I've heard it's buggy. Also, good idea to check the programs runnig in the background. It was a manufacturer's restore disk (Compaq Presario 5320US) and it loads all kinds of useless garbage programs. I usually delete them, but I may have missed one. I'll give that a try. I run Norton Anit-Virus in the background, but I always did before the system restore and never had any problems. I just finished downloading a new set of drivers for the sound card, we'll see if that works, as well.
  8. ChimpPimp had posted on the 24th that he was having problems with the CMBB freezing and stuttering duing play about every few minutes or so rendering the game almost un-playable. I have encounted the same problem. Here's the twist: the game use to run great on my system. Then I had to do a full system restore and when I finally reloaded everything... CMBB and CMBO have this glitch! Here are my spec's: 1.5 ghtz P4 on Windows XP (home), 512 ram, 64mb nVidia GeForce 2 MX/MX400, SoundMAX audio, Logitech Optical mouse, standard 17" Samsung monitor. No hardware was removed or installed prior to or after the system restore. All patches for the games have been installed (as they were before). Drivers for the video card are 41.09 (Newest). Running directX 8.2 (not 9.0, that much I know). Windows has done it's normal updates, etc. Never had this problem with the system that I just outlined BEFORE the system restore, now this... Any ideas? Love this game system (CM) and I was once a die-hard Close Combat fanatic! Please Help. Thanks in advance.
