  1. Ok, my two cents reference the view: We may all have personal preference and I appreciate a great view as much as anyone, but no matter how "good the view" what is important is the game play. So if you dazzle us with a great view but poor play it is still a poor game. If the view sucks, but game play is great, the view ends up not that important. Of course today, too many buy games for graphics and sound instead of for the game. Just one more posting of the obvious I guess.

  2. I can agree with a lot of good points in this thread, however a few thoughts.

    1) I do feel that AI is one of the most important aspects of any computer game. I can play solitare (both sides) as well, but it is nice to be able to have "an opponent with it's own plan" without having to find one and the time to play the game for the two or more of us.

    2) AI that just increases speed of production or amount of damage inflicted as the measure of degree of difficulty is meaningless. What we need is an AI that can put out reasonable attack and defend strategies and reasonably react to the opponents moves.

    3) I want AI to be challenging. (Of course not so challenging that I can't beat it)

    4) I agree with justanotherwargamer that we are a long way off from an AI that can perform like a live opponent, and it may be no claim to fame to beat the AI. But that doesn't mean that I don't consider a great AI as being a needed and important factor for players like me.

Yet on the flip side when someone says "I didn't like the Demo" for whatever reason. The same people say "Well it is just a demo and..." Dah. Dah. Dah. Understand what I mean?

    It's kinda humorous! :D

From the start of this post:

And yes it can go both ways, to complain about the game being poor from what little you can see on a demo is premature, as could be proclaiming the game as great from a few shots at a demo.
Glad to see you agree Ike, so I assume you aren't participating in either practice.
  4. --------, I just want to say that you are making A LOT of assumptions based on a simple demo and not the full game.
This is why I started a whole thread on it's a demo and to "Chill out." Way too many questions, complaints, assumptions and suggestions are being made based on nothing more than a demo. I actually think they would have been wise not to release the demo until the game was out.
  5. We all want the game to be successful with the largest possible audience, and getting some constructive criticsm will help make that happen.

So, yes, "it's just a demo," but Battlefront and Hubert stand to make or lose money based on how this demo is received. I think constructive criticism is helpful to everyone.

    SB

Agreed, but I question how constructive some of the criticism is. I question how valid it is based on a demo only. I question how clear it is in some cases that we are talking about a demo and may be misread. Battlefront and Hubert do stand to make or LOSE money and I question if some of this discussion could potentially unfairly turn people away.
  6. Ok you can all take turns jumping down my throat in this thread if you like.

IT'S A DEMO NOT THE GAME FOLKS!

Stop the endless gripes, concerns, suggestions and questions. A Demo is a teaser not a full product. Is something missing, why didn't ot do this, why did it do that etc. Perhaps one answer is it's not the full product it's a demo. Not rocket science here. Now I see why demos are not put out early or at all in many cases.

And yes it can go both ways, to complain about the game being poor from what little you can see on a demo is premature, as could be proclaiming the game as great from a few shots at a demo. I do put some validity to the wargamer review which seems based on more information.

I know we have been waiting a long time, and I figure a lot of this is just the chance to once again have something "real" to talk about. But let's be real as well. I will await the game (Yes I was one who pre-ordered) before I make up my mind. Still looks to me that most of us will be pleased.

I will close once again with what you can attack (better than attacking the game) IT'S A DEMO!

Actually I wasn't complaining, I was trying to make a joke about people not having anything to complain about in support of justanotherwargamer.

But once again your post brings back old memories. Unfortunately I can remember coming home from school to turn on the TV to watch such greats as Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Ouick Draw McGraw and of course Snagglepuss famous for the saying above. I'd have to see what was in those picnic baskets before complaining. Of course I would have to send Boo Boo to collect them.

@FoxDrake: Actualy I hate to say it, but I agree with Justanotherwargamer unless you can change your tone. We already have enough problems on the forum with flaming, hijacking and uncalled for comments. I write this hesitantly as I like to see a free exchange of ideas. But so far you have really turned me off with his thread and the other you are so upset about being locked up. Your language, tone and confrontational style is not needed here. On the other hand, if you would just tone things down, I would be happy to have you as part of the forum.

The other great but simply supply mechanism from board games was Afrika Korps (AH) where a small number of supply dumps existed as counters. These could be moved and had to be expended to attack. The fact that these were very limited in number, in combination with the rapid movement and that they could be captured added a lot of excitement. Also, think it was realistic to that situation.

I agree Colin. Reference the supply line, I would think while we often had a hard time checking and may have missed it for a few turns (or the whole game) there would be a way for the computer to auto check it.
