  1. I, on the other hand, really like the street battles in CMBO and CMBB. If the game scale was such that you controlled each individual soldier then it would be inadequate by far. But considering there is some representation going on it's great. After all many of us here had to use a LOT of stretching of imagination to make a little cardboard square into a battalion back in the olden days. This is infinitely better. Forest battles are great too. I love it when the stillness of the wood is suddenly rent with gunfire as two opposing groups appear within meters of each other.
  2. Pending Biltong's OK I'll have a Javascript version of the rules. It will make it all quick and simple. Biltong, email has been sent to you.
  3. That is true. I don't know if it's supposed to be that way or not. I don't remember what the manual said. Human wave attacks cannot be done if the unit has any other waypoints either.
  4. Does anyone know the German and Soviet replacement policy? Did they add new troops to depleted units or did they just make new units? Thanks
  5. Haven't tried it. Maybe I should. I have chapter 4 from the US Army's manual on the German Army. It covers some tactics.
  6. Absolutely. I agree with rune on all points. If every scenario is balanced then we can throw historical battles out the window. The rating system does seem to mislead in that respect. My scenarios are usually designed for single player and best played from one side. That's why I like to make up campaigns (sort of like Biltong but simpler). Since I mostly prefer playing Russians a campaign beginning in June '41 is going to have a LOT of scenarios where the Russians are getting stomped. That doesn't mean it isn't fun because I usually shorten the length. Where you will get slaughtered in 30 turns you might be able to hold out for 10. Another thing I noticed on B&T. A particular scenario had a rating of 3.6. There was one review and it gave a rating of 6.5. The designer made a big mistake because he replied to the reviewer with another review!!! He gave himself a rating of 0.0. Never trash your own ratings. Use email or the forum.
  7. cbb, Yeah I figured that Erickson would be at a higher level then CMBB. But at least he's on a more practical level then Wertz or Clarke. Considering there were millions of tactical events during the war suitable for CMBB scenarios, I realize there is no way to obtain the minute details for each of them. Therefore if I can get enough information from the actions of a brigade, I can usually come up with a fairly accurate portrayal of one of it's battalions. That's the model I've followed for years with other wargames. So in that regard, I think Erickson will provide at least some fuel.
  8. I had posted earlier that my wife got CMBB for a Christmas gift. I'd like to thank the many contributers who offered a variety of devious plans for obtaining the game early. However as it turned out it was HER lack of patience that won the day. She does cross stitching and the lighting in our living room is horrible. Even with four lights on it's hard to see. So I got her a drafting lamp and rigged up a deal where it would be suspended from behind her chair. The apparatus was in my closet, which she just happened to notice. Since she has about a dozen projects yet to finish before Christmas she decided using the light would speed things up. Thus she herself offered to let me have the game if she could have the light. Excellent. The fun starts after work today!!!!
  9. I've Gantz on Op. Mars. He's put out a lot of material. His book on Leningrad gives the story from the operational standpoint as opposed to most other histories that deal with the plight of the besieged. I just reread Clarke which suffers from the usual weakness (at least in the US) of spending most of the time on Germany and very little on Russia. However, I'm looking forward to digging into John Erickson's 2 volume epic, "The Road to Stalingrad" and "The Road to Berlin". I'll be sure to give a review of Erickson when I'm done. My main goal is to find good scenario material.
  10. Flyingcursor was my old name, I've been using Master Dullard for some time now so I've changed it. Anyway, there are some good suggestion here. I think the early gift swap idea is a good possibility. However her sadistic streak might rear it's head. Odd_ball, I can't express my empathy for your plight. It just proves there's someone out there worse off Leutenant Hortlund, that wouldn't be her reason. She's into her cross stitching and I already spend most of my time in the computer room with GI Combat, Celtic Kings and Stronghold Crusader. So if she thinks she's going to avoid dissertations on military history. WRONG! Thanks Admiral for the scenario depot directive. I forgot about it.
