  1. True But:

If you can see the thing flaming out at 2500 meters (were talking explosions and big black plumes of smoke here)why couldn't it display as "Burn't Out". Especially since troops would have seen the flaming tank the day before in the same spot. And most of the AFV's are being targeted with optical sights at long range so the smoke and fire would have been all the more obvious. I imagine the smoke and fire would have been identifilable from far away long before the blackend hull could be seen. However, I'm getting "Knocked Out" displays on tanks that were brewed up the day before when my troops are within say 2 meters. I would think that even in extreme fog of war troops could tell when a tank had burnt up when their sitting right on top of it. According to the manual a brew up was pretty catastrophic leading me to belive that some definate damage would be observed at some point and range even if the smoke wasn't.

B.T.W. Wouldn't it be easier to tell if a AFV has brewed up rather than been knocked out with a AP round??? As it is now I can see knocked out tanks at very far ranges!

All I'm asking is if it really hapened that knocked out enemy tanks were fired upon to cause a brew up and prevent repair give us the option to do the same with some type of damage aide (i.e. text display "Burnt Out")to prevent hitting the same tanks over and over.

  2. Qutoe from the book: Barbarossa The Russian German Conflict 1941-45 by Alan Clark.

"Fresh material and drafts of infantry continued to flow up to the front, embracing the whole spectrum of military quality, from the brand-new Jagdtiger with 128-mm. guns and infrared sights (a tank markedly superior to anything which NATO disposed of for the first eighteen years of its existance).......".

My guess is that the infrared sights had to be better than normal eyesight at night (wasn't it also limitly used on the German Assault rifle)otherwise why would it have been used at all! Maybe it could fit in-game somewhere in the middle. It would definatley add some fun tactics for night battles after 01/'45.

  3. O.K. forget the Color change but how about changing if the "Knocked Out" term could be switched to "Burnt Out" when done so. I believe the game engine currently tracks which tanks are "Burnt Out" and therefore nonrecoverable. It would greatly help in not wasting ammo on nonrecoverable tanks!

And yes the A.I. will recover "Knocked Out" as well as "Abandonded" tanks during an operation. Just had it happen to me in Rshew Forest Operation. But the "Burnt Out" AFV's were still left on the battlefield.

  4. Is it possible to have a burnt out tank skin change after a battle to a black color or damage description listed as "BURNT OUT" instead of "Knocked Out"? Reason why below:

I'm playing an operation now and am trying to "brew" up the russian tanks to prevent their reappearing after my next night battle. However, it is difficult to tell which AFV's have brewed up in prior battles cause they all say "Knocked Out" once the fire subsides. A few of the "Knocked Out" AFV's have been burnt up but after each battle but it is impossible to tell which. Heck if the game tracks which vehicles have brewed up why can't the damage description in the toolbar read "BURNT OUT" instead of "Knocked Out"?

Maybe this could be added via a patch. It seems like it would not be to difficult and add some nice variety to "Knocked Out" vehicles.

  5. Rune, Please keep up the realistic senarios/ operations your doing some excellent work!!!

I love the ability to play realistic senarios and apply proper tactics as you so clearly stated. I'm a WWII Eastern Front buff and have no desire to play any of the unrealistic senarios. Trying to recreate history is much more fun.

Don't worry about the critics I D/L and play all your stuff first.

BTW I only download the "Historic" and sometimes "Semi-Historic" senarios/operations.

  6. Great Work Andrew! BTW what's the difference between this pack and the Waffen-SS Uniforms vol.1 you uploaded on 11/30/02. Don't those also include winter uniforms. I have all your and MikeT's uniform mods and their great, however I'm really getting confused on all the German mods because some of them over lap BMP's. Is it possible to install every mod you have w/o running into proplems or are their some obsolete mods or some that need to be installed before others. If possible please give us an installation tutorial to be able to use all your uniform mods. Thanks for some truly great work guys!

  7. Just a wish. Probably couldn't be added w/o rewrite of game code but wouldn't it be cool if an occasional "Brew Up" resulted in an airborne turrent or an immobilization hit resulted in an occasional thrown track.

As it is now the default graphic for a "Knocked Out" tank makes it difficult to tell if a tank is knocked out without clicking on it.

Maybe a patch could be added showing occasional open hatches on a bailed out tank. Anyway, probably more realistic since a bailed out crew wouldn't neccessarily take the time to close the hatches behind them. :D

  8. I Haven't used any mods yet and was wondering if I downloaded some winter skins and installed them would that change the default skins on the vehicles reguardless of the time of year? I.E. if I'm playing a quick battle in the summer will all my vehicles be white? So far I've been playing the game w/ latest patch and have not seen any white vehicles during winter battles.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is there two sets of skins for each vehicle modeled in the game one for non snow and one for snow maps?

P.S. Sorry for all the Newbie Questions! :D
