  1. Hub--Sounds good. Get a hold of Red 6, he's your CO. Also, us Pacific Coast folk are 7 hrs behind UTC, so 8am start time, I'll be there an hour early, but it may be a bit boring for you. Let's get another red player signed up to even things out. Redwolf--Stand by on this channel for a press release [ October 24, 2002, 12:26 AM: Message edited by: Slaggg ]
  2. Excellent, Red it is, and 1500 would be correct, Sir. Also, would that time change be happening next Sat, Nov 2nd?
  3. Side note for those pondering whether to sign up or not: Please don't be afraid that Red 6 is the BLUEFOR CO.
  4. All right, we've got a game. Keep the signups coming. Here's where we stand so far: REDFOR James Sterrett CO David Fraser Stoffel Redwolf Goran Brian Oliver BLUEFOR Red 6 CO Goatchomper Bernard Cousin Rattler Warwick Wolfgang Hub SgtCasey, Fraser's time is limited to the first couple of hours, just in time for you to get back from class, get briefed and take his units over Just a few more players and we're golden. Edit: Updated player rosters Edit #2: Another roster update Edit #3: Yet another update [ October 24, 2002, 04:49 PM: Message edited by: Slaggg ]
  5. You're probably right. I honestly can't remember when it changed from my time in Germany, but then I spent most of my time in Hohenfels and Grafenwoer Everything's on Zulu out there.
  6. Sounds good, it'd be great if you could play a significant portion of the game, but in the event that can't happen, why don't we call you an observer-in-reserve. This'll limit your observation to one side only, and your responsibilities will depend on your CO. If you don't want to commit to a side now, we can wait and see which needs another body.
  7. Thanks for posting the notice to the TacOp List, James, you get the REDFOR CO post for it. Why don't we have Mr. Osborne as our BLUEFOR CO. There, that should allieve any anxieties people have about signing up.
  8. You bring up a good point. So, allow me to ammend my previous statement of assigning the role of CO to the first two folks that 'sign up'. Whoever gives me the most convincing argument as to why they should be CO of Red/Blue will receive the post.
  9. Anyone care to play in a CPX on Nove 9th? Contact me via email (slaggg0@lycos.com) or post something here, please include the side you would prefer to play on and your expected level of involvement (eg: in it for the duration, possible part-timer, observer in reserve, etc.) I have two goals in mind for this CPX: One: for everyone involved to have fun Two: for me to cut my teeth as an Umpire If you REALLY want to be CO of either Red or Blue, let me know, otherwise I'll assign those roles to the first two people who 'sign up'. Some particulars: The map: 541 The sides: Red vs Blue Start time: 3pm GMT # of players: I'd like to keep it at around 6/8 players, but if more want to play, I won't turn you away. Observers welcome of course. Game length: Count on the standard 6 hrs of gameplay. COs will receive their mission objectives and relative info no later than Nov 3rd. Let me know if you have any non-mission specific questions.
  10. Yeah, same thing happens to me on my Mac laptop, and not just CMBO, any game. Probably is a combo of the OS having a hard time keeping all of that info from a game straight during sleep mode, and the game software being idle for too long. Game software is constantly on the move, constantly changing, right? Input from the player, output from the comp, etc., much more so than say Outlook or a word processing prog, only makes sense that being idle for too long isn't the games preferred state.

    info irc

Sure thing, IRC is pretty easy if you know what you're doing, I've set up an irc channel, it's easier to explain by example, than through here. Server is gamewarriors.nj.us.gamesnet.net channel #tacopstest
  12. Too true I'm afraid. However Roger Wilco does have a Mac version Beta build available. No support for it, but hey if it works it works, and if it doesn't.... Roger Wilco also offers a seperate app called Team Wilco, allows the user set up multiple channels, switching easily between, very much like the prog bvark mentioned. But then, that's just that much more the ump has on his plate.

    Map Room

vyshka- Smoke and mirrors Take Map 500 from "The Mad General" custom scenario. The map is 'realistic', a satellite image, with mountainous terrrain, as well as valleys, represented. The designer of the map used different movement costs and LOS blocks to simulate higher elevations.
  14. Found a nice bit of software that not only has all of the symbols made for you, but also helps create an overlay, supporting many different type of file formats: http://www.esri.com/software/mole/index.html And it can be yours for a cool $250
  15. Yes, great info indeed. Thanks again!
  16. Well, my idea was to create a few different shots of the map: intel of enemy spotted via "satellite", an overlay with objs and movement corridors outlined via a paint prog as if it were "drawn" w/ a grease pencil, and perhaps different graphical versions of a map reflecting how a military unit has a much older map of a region with terrain and infrastructure having changed since the map was created. Something my unit had to deal w/ often in Germany. Thought it would make for an interesting addition to the game.
  17. ok, thanks again. Guess I'll have to find another means.
  18. Am I missing something? Or has the procedure for creating overlays changed? Using the this board's search feature (I'm learning ) I found instructions given by Mr. Sterrett back in 2000: Options-->Enable CPX Umpire Mode Reports-->CPX Overlay to File The CPX Overlay to File option seems to be missing, I've even started a Multiplayer Network game as host to see if it 'appears'. No dice. Any ideas? And thanks to all for bringing a newbie up-to-speed

    Custom map prob

The uh, memory trick worked. Thanks. Wish I'd thought of it :$
  20. I just completed a map using a high-quality topo map of Kuwait. However, when i attempt to load it in any 2player mode, TacOps crashes on me, giving me a "error type 1" message. I followed the map making procedure to the letter, except using a paint prog, the original was already a .bmp file and I saw no need to change it. Note: While laying out the terrain and move costs, the Map Tool crashed on me a couple of times. Could this have resulted in a corrupt .dat file? I don't really want to have to do all of that over again Particulars: I'm using a Mac G3 Powerbook w/ TacOps v4 updated and the Map Tool v104 that came on the cd. Thanks in advance for any ideas, solutions, reassuring words
  21. I can see both of your points, and agree an experiment is needed.
  22. After observing Saturday's CPX, I could see how using voice comm could help in certain factors, namly calling for fire missions and giving spot reports. It could not only add an element of 'realism' to the game, but also make relating grid coordinates and unit disposition a bit faster. I agree that the potential for everyone to speak at the same time, rendering comm ineffective, is there, but if a few protocols are adhered to, there shouldn't be a problem. As for the umpire, he needn't be in on the channels, any comm between him and the players can be, and probably should be, carried out via IRC to lessen confusion.

    PBEM v3 vs v4

Love to Minmax, but I'm in sole possession of v4 Raincheck?
  24. From my point of view (observer), the hiccups in the network didn't cause too much of a problem simply because it was so easy to reconnect. I can see how it would be more frustrating for the players, but still much easier than say MOHAA or DoD. All around a good match, although Red could've continued and met their objectives

    PBEM v3 vs v4

Just as I feared, oh well, thanks for the response.
