  1. I did the update to Win 10 with no issue with licensing, however i did run into some pretty critical issues related to mouse and keyboard drivers, which i assume will be updated by MS and Logitech. My issue was that the game kept scrolling up endlessly to max height, in all 5 titles (CMSF, BN, FI, RT, and BS). After finding no reference for the issue anywhere, i just worked my way through anything i could think of which would send that type of command and finally found it.

    thanks.

  2. From the above it sounds like BF will be offering new scenarios/campaigns as either DLC or as part of the CMBN/CMFI packs. There have been other clues: Paper Tiger recently hinting that he's working on a new campaign and the Monte Casino map project mentioned by ChrisND also seem indicate that new scenarios and campaigns will be offered for sale.

I would support this 100%; Campaigns are by far my favorite way to enjoy single player CM and they've been in sore decline for a few years IMO since CMSF. I'd happily bay for PT quality campaigns for modules i already own.

  3. well i've been gaming for 30+ years; i remember losing game manuals where the activation code was a certain word or letter on a certain page. Losing the manual meant i lost the game even though i owned it. DRM has taken many forms over the decades and there has never been a satisfactory system. IMO Steam is as close as it comes, but others find even that too restrictive.

I understand your concerns, but a little trust is in order.

  4. It's not a great system, but BFC has been very helpful to me over the years as i was constantly upgrading new components on my PC. they've never said "no", though i've slowed down my rate of upgrades considerably.

So many companies are out to screw you, but i've, never ever gotten that feeling about BFC. except for 2 players campaigns in CMx2, then they're real bastards...

  5. John i think you're talking about lethality while the OP is talking about the AI behaviour. I think everyone agrees that if you see a squadmate blow up from a mine you don't keep walking. this is the only part of the game which i view as truly "broken", as you can literally lose/break entire platoons as they blithely march to a very obvious doom.

Also, i think "hunt" is a useful command once you hit an area where mines are suspected, but if you think of a map like the first one from the Russian Campaign "Hammer' Flank" you have a lot of territory to cover where you have no idea where the mines are.

  6. I am a strong supporter of Steam; i've used it since public release and i own ~150 games on it. Steve, et al. know best what they don't like about Steam from a business perspective and as long as they have the most current information they know better than I. But as a customer i would infinitely prefer Steam as their distributor and patch management system. It has 75 million users for a reason.

  7. I just finished this last night after leaving it for a month; my fight against the AI crested early in excitement and was a boring final hour. I feinted on the left with my Company of T-34's (76) and lost EVERY one to unknown armor, though i suspect it was Panther as i had several through-and-throughs. My heavy TD group were useless in both their accuracy and their starting location. My IS-2's saved the day, knocking out the KT's in a brutal bloody melee. After that i pretty much held position with the 3 remaining IS-2's and and remnant T-34 (85)s but the ai sent forth only a few platoons of PZGrenadiers who were killed to a man.

Lovely map, great selection of forces but definitely one of those times where the AI just needed to CF/quit a lot sooner.

  8. I've been impatient lately with the load times of all three of the new games (FI, BN, and RT) when I play at high details, so I ran a test last night to identify where the issue was for my own curiosity.

    test rig: Radeon 7950, 16gb RAM, i5-2500K, GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3, Intel 330 Series 180GB SSD.

Running at desktop resolution (1680x1050) with vSync enabled I loaded up a freshly saved turn of two Huge scenarios CMBN "My honor is my loyalty" and CMRT "Gog and Magog".

I ran four tests for each group of settings, alternating between Fastest/Fastest/AA Off and Best/Best/AA On:

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 18.92s My Honor is my loyalty(CMBN)

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 17.66s My Honor is my loyalty

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 17.99s My Honor is my loyalty

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 18.32s My Honor is my loyalty

best best On 1680x1050 2:49.24s My Honor is my loyalty

best best On 1680x1050 2:48.52s My Honor is my loyalty

best best On 1680x1050 2:48.61s My Honor is my loyalty

best best On 1680x1050 2:49.43s My Honor is my loyalty

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 22.70s Gog and Magog

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 22.47s Gog and Magog

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 22.95s Gog and Magog

fastest fastest Off 1680x1050 23.02s Gog and Magog

best best On 1680x1050 3:08.15s Gog and Magog

best best On 1680x1050 3:11.03s Gog and Magog

best best On 1680x1050 3:00.46s Gog and Magog

best best On 1680x1050 3:04.73s Gog and Magog

Does anyone have a machine/video card which loads turn like Gog and Magog in the 1 minute range with quality settings? What HW are you using?

I run many other demanding games with the same rig at max details, and I've never understood why the lengthy load times for CMx2 games.

I assume its the loading of the hi-res textures which causes the delay. Right/Wrong?

    thanks

  9. Maxims seem to work very well. Enjoying the first Soviet campaign mission. Have yet to actually get my flamethrowers in range of anything tho'. :(

Some day, I hope that BF can adjust something so that the discovery of a minefield by the first poor sod to get blown up will automatically stop everyone else from following in blindly and also getting blown up.

I absolutely agree; I simply use the expedient of running wounded riflemen through suspected areas so I can clear of mines.

  10. yeah I am not sure either, but I had a platoon doing cleanup on the assault platoons and they were 500m behind fighting. it was taking 4-5 minutes to gather gear as opposed to 1-3 with germans or us/uk. I figured they wouldn't make a change for that for one nation, but then again they do crazy awesome stuff...
