  1. I've just made the switch from Windows to OSX in the shape of a new iMac (2.4Ghz Dual Core, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO), and I've installed a virtual Windows XP Home using Vmware Fusion 1.1. I switched on the 3D acceleration and allocated 1GB RAM , but CMBB is totally unplayable - just a complete mess, really, with text boxes all blanked out, graphics screwed up, etc. Anyone else had any luck with Vmware fusion? Any help would be appreciated, since I realy don't want to go down the Boot Camp route... Thanks.
  2. Yeah, 70C while running CMAK. When I'm just doing regular stuff, it's about 47C. I checked the fans and all are working fine (CPU, power unit, video card + plus two other fans), but still, the case is so hot to the touch while I'm gaming that it worries me...
  3. No, unfortunately I don't have a second monitor. I ran the NVIDIA System Utility and found that while the CPU temperature stays within reasonable bounds, the system temperature is shooting up to 70C when I have CM running  Could it be that the fans are not working correctly? How would I go about checking that?
  4. Thanks for the reply. I think you're on to something here. I built this computer last November, so it hasn't experienced summer yet, and we've just been getting into very hot and humid weather, which coincides pretty much with the emergence of the problem. First I'm going to move it off the desk where it seems to have been absorbing a lot of heat (even through the curtain) and put it in the deep shade under the desk to see if that helps.
  5. CMAK has been running fine on my computer for ages, but in the last few days I've been hit by an annoying problem. At a seemingly random moment while plotting my moves, the screen freezes up and there's a weird continuous sound loop in the background. At this point I'm forced to reset the computer. It doesn't happen every time, but it's getting more frequent. I haven't installed any new software or changed my computer recently in any way that I can think of. Any ideas? AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Windows XP SP2 DirectX 9.0C Nvidia Geforce FX5700 1024MB RAM
  6. Some late results from the AMD front on my new rig: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2411Mhz)- not overclocked 1024MB RAM 333MHz Nvidia Geforce FX5700 Motherboard: Gigabyte K8NS Pro Win XP Home SP2 45, 46, 44, 48, 43 seconds (sound off for all).
  7. And HE does it in CM too...my Matilda has just been KO'd by one of your 150mm rounds
  8. The OS is WinXP Home with SP2, and the motherboard is a Gigabyte K8NS Pro. The Gateway monitor's native resolution is 1024 x 768, and that's the resolution that I'm using. As for tweaks, I just tried various combinations of settings for the nVidia (differing levels of antialiasing, etc), and for the ATI I was using a 3D Rage tweaker with which I turned off the Z mask. Nothing seemed to help, though. I didn't have this problem at all when I used the same monitor with my old rig (Pentium III 1Ghz, 512 RAM, ATI Radeon 7000).
  9. Generally speaking, though, you have to remember that tanks being knocked out by indirect artillery fire were extremely rare. At the back of the manual for Talonsoft's West Front game they reproduced a British study made late in the war which showed that only 3% of all tank losses were due to artillery, a figure which included both direct and indirect HE fire. So the figure for indirect fire alone must have been pretty insignificant. (This study didn't include open-topped vehicles, IIRC).
  10. I've just tried out both an nVidia FX5700 and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro on my new rig (AMD 64 3400+, 1GB RAM), and both suffered from the same problem: in CM, when moving about the screen, lettering goes dark and kind of scrunched up, and everything else looks a little strange. Even when playing other non-3D games, just scrolling around the map is very painful on the eyes, as things seem not to redraw fast enough. I've tried all kinds of tweaks and configurations with the video cards, but nothing helps. Then I wondered about my monitor - it's an old Gateway 15" LCD which only has a refresh rate of 60Hz. Could it be this which is causing the problem? Any ideas would be appreciated...
  11. You can get it here: http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/
  12. Yep, you're right. I did manage to knock out a couple of tankettes and three armoured cars with the PzII's, so maybe I can get a few BT's too. I'm enjoying the scenario a lot, by the way, and the prospect of a really tough fight is very appealing...
  13. **** possible spoiler ahead **** I'm playing this one now (PBEM) as the Germans, but am only a few turns in, so the full horror has yet to hit me. Question is, what to do with all those useless PzIB's and IIF's? Exit them before the big green monsters eat them?!?
  14. Thanks for the info. What should I do about Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering - at the moment I've got them set to 'Application controlled' - should I leave it like that?
  15. Just built myself a new computer (Athlon 64 3400+, 1GB RAM) and put in an NVIDIA GeForce FX5700. I previously used ATI Radeon, so this type of card is totally new to me. So, what are the optimum settings for CM in terms of Performance/Quality settings, anti-aliasing, filtering, etc.? Any suggestions would be appreciated....
