Yes it would be a visual feast, but surely you know the history of this game, its years of title changes, dodgey development... BF have taken on this project and with the material they had to work with, they have done a good job (patches/mods will make it better). If, and its a hopeful if, if TOW is a success then we may get our ideal game in TOW2, but at the moment we have TOW and we have to work with what we've got.

I have to respectfully disagree about TOW ever being better than CoH (which I hated completely -borrowed a copy thankfully). They are different markets, totally different and cater to different gamers (and ages).

  2. Crazylegsmurphy,

I am Graphic Designer too, but I am also a wargamer. Have you thought we (designers) may look at things in TOO MUCH graphic detail...?

In my opinion yes the graphics could be better, but they are still good and functional, functional being the word here. Wargamers will be drunk on this vision of the battlefield, where as your average RTS player will be disappointed. You pushing the GFX point is a waste of your and our time here, as most wargamers (probably 70%+ of these boards) will be more than happy with the look.

Youre really fighting your corner here....I can see that but I think at this stage its quite obvious to all (you included) this game is not for you... So why are you still labouring the point, why are you still trying to convince the majority that this game is poor, when the overwhelming concensus is a big thumbs up?

  3. I found that keeping a Panther behind the reinforcement ridge helped too. I only bring it out when the Russians attack from the hills to the right. The Panther quickly finishes the two or so tanks that support the infantry from there and then I can support my units in the trenches.

Well I don't understand it then. I was playing on the easiest difficulty too, which is supposed to give your units an edge, but they were wiped out in a matter of 2 minutes max!

I won on Normal settings in 25 minutes...

I pulled back a unit to the trench system in the deployment phrase...they acted as a reserve. Also I placed both Pak40 on the lefthand flank alongside the left buildings (just behind the walls).

I suggest you concentrate your fire on the nearest threat and also manually aim, I find it slightly more effective with AT & Tanks.

  5. Hmmmm really, my Panzer VI took out 6 enemy tanks and crippled one, single-handed.

The only thing that stopped it in its tracks (excuse the pun) was hitting a wall. It took out both tracks. Moon is that suppose to happen? - Great if it was, either that or someone got in a sneaky shot.

  6. Ok Crazylegsmurphy,

Demo downloaded, installed and played... obviously to gauge the full potential of this game you, like with chess, need to understand the nuances of the tactics. I on the other hand merely wanted to quickly gauge the points CrazylegsMurphy highlighted.

I will say that I come to this game with a background in CC (all expansions) and other more heavy brow wargames. I DONT DO CLICKFESTS!

    Firstly my system:

    E6600 Dual Core 'Overclocked 2.93mhz'

    2 Gig 7200 DDR2 Ram

    GTX 8800 756mb

    Windows XP sp2

    Screen Res: 1280x1024

    Yours points:

Loadings times being excessive: My experience was anything between 18 – 25 sec. Excessive, no not really.

Features turned off/Bad Performance: All at max, smooth with fluid animation.

Frame rate Poor: As above no problems

Poor Pathfinding: I've played CC so this seemed normal for me to control my units with waypoints.

Camera Control: Like with everything it takes time to master, though in the end after an hours play or so I was comfortable.

Poor LOS (disappearing enemy units): You have to assign and control your units better so that at least one is spotting the enemy...I haven't a problem with that (realism).

    ---------------------------------------------

Unlike your good self, and this is not meant as an insult, I will give this game more than a few hours play before I resign it to the bargain basket. My initial impression is good, it feels like a tactical wargame that needs time to master...and hey guess what, that's what I wanted.

I feel that 'most' wargamers will appreciate this game, warts and all! I give it an initial thumbs up, knowing it will only get better with loyal, intelligent and balanced community input.

    Good work BF!

Perhaps I should have stated 'lack of emotion'. Your review just reflects your total apathy for this game. I dont know your background with PC wargames, but what is your benchmark?

I am still Dling the demo so I cannot agree or disagree at this stage.

  8. Hmmm ok...

I wasn't going to download the Demo (as I am waiting for the Preordered download)..I will now to see this "Flop" for myself.

I will then see how much of your review is fact or pure emotion.
