  1. Everyone makes good points but forgot one other key difference: in CC (at least in A Bridge Too Far which is the last one I got) you can win a battle by parking one hidden soldier right on top of an objective despite the fact that the rest of your forces have been routed, or that you can spend half an hour wasting your time and ammo hunting for one last half squad of the enemy that won't surrender! Don't get me wrong, I loved CC at the time. Its been surrpassed by CM IMHO and if you take the time to learn it you'll just be learning less realistic tactics. Of course I play these games as a competative/interactive/play-with-little-toy-vehicles/ultimately-historical-learning-excersizes, so your interests may guide you to different conclusions.
  2. That'd do for a start! Indecies of various moddels, scales, links to groups working on mods so that effort is not duplicated. A FAQ... Maybe asking for too much?
  3. Thanks Mike! I've been poking about for 2 days now and while, there's tons of great MODs, there's not a lot of newbie friendly site out there.... Are there any groups of people working on mods? Like I mentioned earlier I have the itch to MOD but would reather contribute to a group effort than reproduce what others have done / are doing!
  4. I saw another thread where somone wished that they could have the sound FX auto-off in orders mode, but what I really want is to turn the trees auto-off in orders mode, also scale +1 units. It seems a lot of people might customize their display settings differntly for the two modes so instead of a specific set of changes people could choose what they wanted simply by having the game remeber two different sets of states, say by holding another modifier key when you make the change to designate it a "this state" only change. Good idea? Waste of time?
  5. Forgive me for sounding stoopid, but I'm new to this whole series of games. Are the 'old' CMBO numbers documented somewhere? Are the vehcile numbers documented somewhere? I just wanna MOD!
  6. Mike, are you kidding? Is there no internest accesible index of what the various bmp #s are, or what rules are used for assiging them?!?
  7. Yo PixelFlesh, sign me up! If you find anything out please share. I'd love a simple MOD tutorial or FAQ. I too have got the MOD bug, but I'm still looking for an index to and explenation of the various files. I gather there's a way for "winter" textures to coexisist with the regular ones, how extensive is this? can scnarios specify different texture sets? Thanks!
  8. Oooh! Oooh! I'll do it! I've just gotten sucked into the addictive world of these games and now the idea of MODing is calling to me as well (In a former life I did textures for 3D games so it's almost nostalgic). I was actually wondering what would be reasonable to start with, and this looks perfect. Now, I just have to finish my research on how one excatly refferences the textures and installs the mods... Also trying to orient myself in the wide world of MODs, is there an established look for the 'more realistic' units and environments? I'd like to have a set of sunflowers for both the default textures and whatever other popular environments are out there...
