  1. Thanks for the reply .....

    Hi Lou,

    1. To view all waypoints you need to press Alt+p, now when a unit is activated, you will see all waypoints for all units. You may want to view all possible hotkeys in the game via the optionsmenu-good to know all the goodies ;)

Ahhh .... that's what you get for working from a printout of the hotkeys from the 'Demo' manual . :o

Note to Self: Read the bloody manual !!

    2. No, not to my knowledge, that is sadly not possible, there must be a recent thread on here discussing this same issue.

OK thanks. Pity, still I can work around it.

    Lou

  2. First off:

Hi. I've been away from these forums and all things CM (well all PC gaming) since a little after the release of CMAK. But I've been dragged back by the lure of CMSF ... so yesterday I downloaded CMSF + Marines module and am just getting back into things.

    Waypoint Questions:

    First Question. Viewing waypoints.

Is there a way to view all waypoints currently plotted .. not just those for the currently selected unit, as there was in the old CM1 games.

I used to find that option useful when plotting waypoints for multiple units (esp vehicles).

    Second Question. Editing waypoints.

If I have given a unit a string of waypoints, is there a way to edit/move one waypoint other than deleting back from the final waypoint. Sometimes I just want to fine tune an intermediate waypoint without re-plotting the whole path.

Forgive me if these have been asked before or are just plain 'stupid' ... I've done a search, but not read the whole of the forum and I've never been good at reading whole game manuals in PDF format ... I've got a little catching up to do !

    Thanks

  3. I've been absent from all things 'battlefront' for quite a while, but with a new PC I'm considering ToW.

However I'm wondering how it will run with my PC spec:

    Intel Core 2 duo E4500 (2x2.2ghz)

    Nvidia Geforce 8600 GS (256mb)

    2 Gig Ram

    Windows Vista (Home Premium)

It's the games performance under Vista that I'm really looking for confirmation on .... I think the rest should be fine !

    Cheers

    Lou

  4. Looking forward to Andrea's latest creation.

This link posted more for interest that great CM value, but may be of use .......

    OLD MAPS UK

Enter a UK placename and it will bring up an old map of the area. Most seem to be between 1860 - 1890 So no where near WW2 timeline, however the maps 60 years before the war probably have more in common with the time than current maps 60 years after it !

I believe the 'Holien estate' may be marked on the map of the area!

Either way ... Its hard to resist exploring your local area 120 years ago ! Sometimes hard to get orientated .... churches are usually a good 'common' start point.

  5. Nice work Von Lucke,

I was going to do a Marlene Dietrich 'Lili Marlene' mod myself ... You've saved me a job. I two have mp3 German versions and did get an English version, but he quality wasnt too good.

I put it off whilst doing some background sound mods, very similar to the current ambient sounds in the game, but without the artillery. I prefer my explosions to be caused by me (or my opponent) :D

  7. ..Another GameSpy quote from the same article....

Unfortunately, Squad Assault falls short in a few areas. Built on the G.I. Combat engine, Squad Assault features a few of the same problems that plagued that title. The game crashed a couple of times and locked up briefly during intense firefights, but perhaps the biggest issue is the armor modeling.

Balancing in WWII games like this is always tricky, because much of the Allied equipment (including tanks) wasn't really on par with what the Germans had at the time. As a result, the balancing just seems off at times in the Allied favor. In some situations, the Shermans behave unnaturally like super tanks. While causal gamers might be forgiving and see as a type of "adjustment," it's exactly the kind of thing that drives hardcore WWII buffs away in droves.

    Outdoes CM ? I think not !!
  8. OK a final update. The NOWT Tournament final is over and SteveS has a copy of this book on its way to him ....

    0304362581.02.MZZZZZZZ

Tobruk: Birth of a legend - Amazon.

That should get him in the mood for North Africa !

Thanks again to all who took part .... Including Dr Juzzy who earlier win the tournament was generous enough to offer a prize for the runner up .... well at least there won't be any postage on it :D

I have a few ideas for the NAFF that will again be a knockout tounament, but instead of individuals it will be teams of either 2, 4 or 6 depending on how many players are intersted.

.....I'll post more details in the CMAK fourm when its ready to start ... ALL NOWT players will be offered a place.

    Thanks again.

    Lou

  9. The NOWT has finally come to an end. 10 months since I first posted to get players to sign up ....

    NOWT

Congratualtions Steve .... Contact me via email and I'll sort out the details of the prize.

Dr Juzzy ... well done in getting to the final.

I'd like to say thanks to all those who took part and stuck with it for the duration. Including those, who like myself, were knocked out in the first round and those who managed to battle of a little longer.

Considering it the amount of time it took to get some of the results in and the overall lenght of the tournament, I'm grateful we had so few people drop out. Those who did, only did so for understandable and unavoidable reasons.

    Thanks

.... Hmmmm that was NOWT Special ... I'm thinking maybe a NAFF Tournament (North African Fun Fest) somtime in the future. ;)

  10. It is a good little program ... I've been using it for a few months after somebody reccommended it. Its been so reliable that I forget I'm using it

... always the sign of a good bit of software.

Just be aware that it can take quite a while to create an image of a protected CD (ie CDV) and you may think it has failed. It could take a couple of hours. Just let it continue.

Non-protected disk images are created in a couple of mins.

Well worth the money, cheaper and easier than a new drive.

I though more people knew about it.

    Lou

  11. I would suggest having a look here > Alcohol 120%.

I think its PC only ... not sure if you are using PC or mac. Trial version download available .... I tired, I bought it !!

I bought a copy to save on disc swapping and it works without any problems at all.

The program can create an image file of your original CD and automatically mount it in a virtual CD drive. You can have up to 31 virtual drives installed, I currently have images of CMBO, CMBB and CMAK all mounted, with my original CD's safely stored away.

Of course you will need the HD space to be able to store the images on your PC. Once configured, everything gets loaded up at system boot up, Windows just sees the virtual drives as normal CD/DVD drives. Works OK with BFC and CDV disks.

  12. Gents,

Following the link that Sgt Bilko posted I found this Aide de Camp 2 (Bottom of page)

Useful for all you wargaming vets who have all those old tabletop games ..... you can transfer them over to your PC.

It may also be able to act as a GM tool for a campaign. There is a playable demo that I've just downloaded and hope to give a try later in the week.

Kip, I've been looking at Fulda Gap '85 - but cant decide between that and 'Decisive Action'

    (same link - above ADC2)

  13. Backs to the volga it is then ...

    ....Oh yes, that liquid [shudder].

Memories of a grinning Andreas pouring what looked like tar into a small cup and setting it alight .... then getting me to drink it, whilst everybody else tries to hide their amusement !

My tounge was numb for about 20 mins !

    Strangely addictive stuff though ;)

One sip and your hooked. I have since taken to drinking aviation fuel looking for a similar hit, but alas I cannot create the sensation.

For Sgt Bilko ... This sounds like a good idea. Have you actually tried this campaigning method in practice rather than just 'an idea'.

  14. Lou I see you are busy at work....
....Ssshhhhh, dont tell the boss. As long as he thinks I'm busy, life stays sweet :D

You know where this is going don't you?

    Weekend campaign session....

Amazing... and you've convinced the wife to let you do this. She must REALLY love you ! ;)

It will stop Andreas giving my opponents unlimited amounts of artillery!!!

Any system that can restrict Andreas already has its merits .... but ya just know he'll find a way around it. :D

If anybody has any more details if this idea would/could/will work I'd be interested. If this will work I'll order one of the JTPC games.

I have a couple of spare PBEM slots if you are interested in a game ... I promise to read the damn briefing this time and not blindly rush forwards into your guns ... always check ME or Attack redface.gif

  15. Thanks Schrullenhaft - sound advice (as always).

I'm faily convinced it was down to the local power problems as things seem to be back to normal now.

I'm going to invest in a new surge protector just to be on the safe side ...

... I'm sure you'll understand if I dont experiment with running my CPU without a heatsink. ;)

...Also thanks junk2drive for the link. I dont try the site, but I'll give it a browse at a later date.

    Lou

  16. Anybody any idea what could have caused this ....

This is a general PC problem and in no way related to CM**. I'm not a PC professional, but I know my way around the inside of a PC

    2.4ghz P4

    256mb ram

    WinXp Home

    Gforce4 Ti 4200 (128mb)

System was running seemingly with out any problems.

    Programs running:

    CMAK (minimised)

    Outlook express

    PBEM Helper

    Norton antivirus / Firewall

+ a few other smaller programs in systray.

Suddenly the screen went black and the PC sounded like it was goind a reboot. It didnt restart, could just hear the fans running and the screen remained black.

First thoughts were video card problems .. changed the card for a known good one (lower spec). No change. When removing the monitor cable the 'no signal' message was displayed on screen, so the monitor looks OK. Replaced the original graphics card

Tried with a bootable disk ... still no good.

Removed the heat sink & CPU .... everything looked OK, nothing seemed to be unusually hot.

No discolouration on any PCB's or strange smells. No unusual sounds and all the fans were running.

Replaced fan /heatsink /CPU and tried again ...

It all worked and here I am ... not sure for how long ?

I was starting to think it had overheated .. but not sure.

The only other thing is a couple of mins after it shutdown our street had a small (2-3 mins) power outage. Not totally unusual in this area.

I have a surge protector on the PC but not sure how good / effective it is.

PC has been back up now for 30 mins and seems stable.

Any suggestions appreciated ... assuming my PC stays up long enough for me to read them

    ==========================================

    (EDIT)

Lights in the house are dim and there is a team working on the mains supply in the street.

Note: The PC shutdown about 5 mins before the power cut. There was power to it when I tried all the restarts ... fans running etc.

Shutting down until they have finnished work :(
