  1. When i fired a MG42 through www.tankride.com, the fellow running told me that most post-war MG42s hd been reworked and a had a much lower rate of fire then in the actual war. Thus, although the "sampled" sound used in CMBB is taken from an actual gun, the "ripppp" sound used in CMBO is probably the better choice.
  2. Waiting for it in downtown Minneapolis. . . 'course I ordered it later. Happy hunting, fellow Northmen.
  3. I've fired a LMG42 at a Minnesota site (www.tankride.com); the recoil was not too severe, much less than a 12-gauge shotgun. (Same with an AK47, btw; I guess it's all relative to the mighty bruising power of the 12-gauge.) I agree that 3-5 round bursts are easy to control, but beyond that that the weapon starts to get "happy feet" and accuracy goes down. The instructor had a second guy brace the trigger man's right shoulder by leaning on him as shown in some of the WW2 pictures I've seen; it definitely helped.
  4. A postscript -- I went back on the CD and found the "original" MG42 sounds that shipped with the game -- they sound a lot like what I imagined they would. (They are the 440 series on the WAV files on your CD). I guess you can have it either way. . . so I just stuck the old MG42 sounds back on top of the MDMP.
  5. I just got this game, downloaded the MDMPs and absolutely love them. However, one question -- isn't the HMG42 sound a little slow in the MDMP? I've fired one that was rechambered and reworked up here, and although it makes the noise in MDMP (and in Saving Private Ryan) the owner acknowledged the gun does not fire as fast as it would have in 1942-1945 -- from the old documentaries there is more of a distinctive zipper or "ripping" noise. But I don't know for sure. . .hence the post.
  6. FYI, Gibraltar's only been British for about 300 years; it was ceded to Great Britain by Spain in the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht, and has endured a number of nasty sieges by the vengeful Spanish since, particularly during the War of the American Revolution from 1779-1783.
  7. OK. . . shouldn't there be? Not a big deal though. How about ZOC?
  8. Hubert, is there any way to replace lost units of minor powers? For example, let's say the Canadian army lands in France in 1940 and gets eliminated -- there seems to be no way to replace it, as all future Allied units are British. Is there any way to maybe put in a quota or randomizer to ensure a historical mix of Canadian, British, etc. units? (Same goes for lost Finnish, Hungarian, Rumanian et al. units). Also, has there been any discussion re ZOC? I think it might make sense to have units pay 2 action points to move through zones of control instead of the standard 1 to reflect the friction of moving at the front lines. Thanks again for your work on this game -- it is excellent.
  9. I agree. Fog of War, however, is an absolute must if the U-Boats hope to survive.
  10. I too enjoyed the demo very much, and, the true sign of a good game, am now jonesing for more. (When is it due out again?) A massive bargain at the price. The timing of the turns is perfect, by the way; the winter flies by as it should. Congratulations on a job well done, this seems like a great marriage of game elements from Clash of Steel and Panzer General. [ May 22, 2002, 12:24 AM: Message edited by: Captain Vegas ]
