  1. DevilDog, I agree that maybe the incident has at least some bright side to it as it serves as what you say is a "wake up call". Now some additional safeguarding can be done before the actual release.

But how you can even consider whether hags should be THANKED for what he did is simply beyond me.

If he would have hacked the demo, and then without posting here privately sent the result to Hubert with an explanation of how it was done, THEN this would have been helpful.

But he did something else, completely... I don't know anything about any "original" post. What I have seen was that hags expressly hinted on how to hack the demo to get the full game. Something in the vain of "I didn't say that, but ..."

  2. Bill, I don't think that anyone here believes that you or your posts have anything to do with what that idiot hags did.

Basically, normally, what is allowed to mod are open source files like *.txt *.bmp etc which contain info about certain game parameters or graphics. AFAIK the exefiles are always totally off limits for modders except when the company (usually years) later decides to publish the source code especially for that purpose.

I just thought that there is maybe, just maybe, some small bright side to the hags-scandal. What I mean is that it is better that something like this happened *before* the actual release of the game. Now, some additional things can be done to encrypt and safeguard the main exefiles etc.

    Bernard,

Sorry, but there will not be an Austrian army. As a matter of fact, there will not even be an Austria.

Kinda hard to play Austria in 1939!! ;) </font>
  4. News next week ... I don't believe in another demo *before* the final release, so I conclude the news will be that the game has gone gold. I hope it will also include the possibility of preordering then.

  5. I do not despise PDF manuals, but I'd rather want them in addition to a printed one. And it's true: I'm not very happy with the recent custom of not providing a printed manual at all. Going to Kinko's, or printing out at the office/home is quite inconvenient, and the result often shabby. I'd rather pay the manual extra.

  6. Can one really simply disband the minor armies? (I never checked.) I hope not.

As we've heard, there will probably be no more changes before the release, but somewhere down the road I would like to be able to produce minor armies. The best frame for this would probably be to have not only MPP pools for the majors (Germany, Italy etc.), but also a seperate "catch all" pool for minors. This way, you would be forced to spend some amount of MPPs on the minors. Of course, I know that the majors need the MPPs, e.g. Germany from the Romanian Ploesti oilfields. But we could have something like 20% of every minor's MPP going into the minors pool. This should be enough to rebuy some Finish or Canadian army every once in a while.

  7. 25 bucks is great. Like others here, I personally would be willing to pay more, but let´s not forget that we are all nuts anyway. I saw that the € went up during the last weeks, so the Europeans should still get a good price, too.

Also, can the game be reduced to a single file, preferably one less than 40k in size? I don't think my C-64 can handle anything larger.

    Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks.

But your suggestion would require the *additional* feature of stacking two armies in one hex. So where's the minimalism in this? :D

This will stop too much cooperation between the two sides of the allied coin.

Yeah, I, too, had asked for this feature right from the beginning, but it seems it will not happen in this release. Apart from the cooperation aspect, having the USSR seperate would also enhance PBEM games. I even would go further and vote for the option of having Italy computer controlled, too ... this was done never before, and sure would be great fun! smile.gif
