Did you watch that video posted earlier in this thread?

Sure... and the effect of heavy caliber rounds is impressive. However the experiments are carried out on a 'room' not typical of housing in much of the 'rest' (ie. non-US) world.

My house (for example) has double layer brick exterior walls and single layer brick internal walls. Each wall is faced with about an inch of cement render (externally) or solid plaster (internally).

As I said. Probably not 50 cal proof, but solid enough that the whole house doesnt shake when someone slams the front door...

This is the KEY point that breaks RT - its impossible to know what is going on all over a complex battlefield from one perspective during one run through.

Also, WEGO being both processed and displayed in 60 sec means that corners need to be cut to get all the maths done in that time. I would happily look at the blue bar for 2-3+ min if it meant getting a turn where things worked...

What happened to 'its done when its done' ?

  3. How about variable turn lengths ?

So for example, once 5Mb of data has been generated then thats the end of the turn.

If nothing is happening and no contact has been made that might take 60-90 seconds.

If all hell is breaking loose that might take only 20-30 seconds.

This would result in both manageable file sizes and orders phases that come up at intervals proportionate to how much is going on.

    Just a thought...

  7. Most impressive - thank you for your efforts in putting this together Rune

However, I have a comment that I hope will be constructive in some way. Primarily, I cant help thinking that the town you are building looks very 'American'. Big and open.

Syria is a land that has been intensively lived in for many many thousands of years. Over this time buildings go up in former gardens, houses are extended and open space is consumed to generate ever denser housing - what you show in your example just doesnt seem to reflect this.

A walk arround in seriously old cities in the medeteranian area feels almost claustraphobic. Tall buildings, very narrow alley ways and narrow roads

Why do you think Fiat make such small cars !

I realise not everywhere looks like the picture and you are putting this example together to demonstrate for us, but it might be something to bear in mind.

    Thanks,

  8. Far be it from me to speak for Battlefront. But this is my understanding from previous Mac CM:SF threads:

Charles is always flat out for the first weeks immediately before and after a release.

    - Demo's and the inevitable distractions associated with addressing the multiple 'fix or do sumfink' threads that will doubtless appear.

However IIRC, Steve also mentioned that Charles wishes to return to working on a Mac. So its possible that any purely business considerations may also be tinged with a personal motivation to return to the fold. I think Steve may feel similarly drawn....

Either way, its going to take a month or two after the initial release before we can hope for any concrete go / no-go decision

    So maybe in early September.

I know this isnt what we probably want to hear. But given the resources available and the comparatively small (but growing!) Mac community I think its fair and the best that we can reasonably expect.

    Fingers crossed.....

  10. Very nice vids, they do credit to what is obviously a LOT of work. I'm looking forward to the game.

    However two points:

Firstly, in 'Firefight', the soldiers seem to be very slow reloading. Its quite a contrast to the speed of the rest of the action as they slowly reach back to grab a fresh mag and very leasurly do the actual reloading thing... I dont know personally, but my guess is that they would be pretty pumped up in such a situation.

Secondly, the syncronised movement of large groups of wind blown leaves on the trees looks rather odd....

    Regards,

But I would certainly love to play a western europe (and Norway) 1939-40 based game.

But since the US was still sitting on its hands only the Brits, ANZACS and Canadians would be allowed to play as the Allies tongue.gif

Once they have drunk enough they will fight anyone. And once you have the Finns, any other nationality would just be a terrible disappointment by comparison.

So its probably just best to let them fight amongst themselves...

Well, based on my experience with the Finns on this Forum they don't need helmets anyway. Their heads are so thick that... oh, never mind :D

Seriously though, welcome to the Forum. You'll find that Finns have a special place in this Forum's heart. Despite your blatent overusage of vowels. When someone goes to buy a vowel, and Vanna (Wheel of Fortunate TV game show) comes up empty, we all know who to blame ;)

Not an expert on these things - but it looks to me like an RPG7 round with a silver painted toilet roll tube stuck to the end with black PVC tape.

    Could be wrong though.... :D

    Numbers listed include 20 lost M1 Abrams tanks, 50 Bradlies, 20 Strykers, 20 M113s and 250 Humvees.

Not to mention >500 other vehicles and 85 helicopters !

They also make the very valid point that increased heavy usage is just 'wearing out' a lot of kit years before it was anticipated that it would need to be replaced.

Instead of have been working on CM:GTA

Or Combat Mission: Grand Theft Auto

You play the role of a corrupt US army officer trying to set up his own criminal enterprise in the crumbling society that is Iraq crica 2008

He is just a simple man who has put in his two tours and if trying to 'grab a piece of the pie' before he retires.

You have the ability to carjack over 75 unique civilain and military vehicles!

Over 120 unique missions and a engaging story with full voice acting!

The game also fully models three Iraqi cities with the surround countryside in between

And yes, you can fully run over as many people as you want !

I mean, whos going to stop you? The Iraqi police are all on your payroll

The game combines the fun of the beloved GTA series with hard biting political commentary

CM:GTA is soon to be released in a store near you!

This would neatly explain why Steve was always arguing that the SPEED of the Stryker was such a critical factor in the numerous Bradley v. Stryker threads.

    It all starts making sense....
