  1. Did you try going back a page to see if your reply was still there so that you could copy and paste it into the new thread? That's a very crappy design choice of whoever made this forum. When a thread is moved, the thread should change into a link to the thread in the other forum, not turn into a locked version of the thread as it was in that point in time. Thanks for taking the time to reply, however!
  2. Oh... that's what "WeGo" is... man, that thread is really intended for those who know their abbreviations. What's that "borg" problem?
  3. Melnibone: Thanks for the awesome link. Took me awhile to read through it. Too bad that LOS won't be tracked for each individual soldier- it'll kind of hurt the visuals to see a soldier firing into a tree or mound of dirt while his buddies are engaging the enemy. Just about the only thing that I didn't like in what I read, however. Couple of questions: Amazingly, that post doesn't mention whether CMx2 is still turn-based! I'd imagine it is, but it's not stated, so can I have confirmation? If so, then the talk about optimizations is pretty moot given that the computer will simply crunch the numbers between turns, right? What's the "borg" problem? Is that referring to how groups of men would all move and shoot in the same direction at the same time? Again, thanks very much, melniborne!

  5. HAHAHA, holy ****, Hofbauer! Well, maybe the superfluous replies can be edited out, the title changed and this could be made into the thread for all things different beteween ToW and CMx2. I'm already aware that there are no mortar teams in ToW. What I'm still a bit curious about, and what I still wasn't quite sure of after reading C'Rogers' post, was whether or not every single infantryman will be made visible and will move around realistically. What I mean is, will there still be chunks of men that are representative of a unit, or will there be a ToW-level infantry simulation thing going on, with each soldier acting realistically? This is the thing that I most desire of CMx2.

  7. That rhetorical question assumes two things: 1. that I believe I need special status to have a question about the game answered when I make a topic to ask it and 2. that I have in fact expended no time looking for the answers myself.

  9. Thanks, C'Rogers. If you could just tell me whether or not CMx2 is expected to depict each individual soldier (which from viewing the Strike Force screenshots it appears to be) then I'll be totally sated:)

  11. K, any suggestions on what to search for? "Differences between CMx2 and Theatre of War"? For a group of seemingly smart guys you really do relish the act of acting like douches. Why not just answer my questions so that I can be on my way?

  13. No, I was aware of that. The "Strike Force" forum at the top of the main directory kind of gave that away. So what's going to be different between CMx2 and ToW? I really think ToW looks like what I want CMx2 to be like. Oh, and will CMx2 be Mac-compatible?

  15. Hi all, I was really excited when I read about Theatre of War. I thought that it was Battlefront's sequel to the CM series and having looked at the videos and screenshots I thought it did a great job at bringing out everything that the original CM series was and more. Detailing every infantryman is like a wet dream come true for me. However, upon reading through some of the posts by administrators and mods, it sounded as thought battlefront was not the creator of the game and that its staff were simply TESTING it for another company? Finally, I found a post by Madmatt that had the following: "And lets be honest here, while the CMx1 engine does allow you to occupy buildings, we were really never totally pleased with how it works and was one thing we are working hard to improve in the CMx2 game engine." So am I to gather that ToW isn't using the CMx2 engine? This is so strange to me since ToW looks and seems to me exactly how I would want CM2 to look and play, and to learn that it is not in fact the same game... is this correct? If so, what's the CMx2 engine going to be like in comparison to ToW's engine? I mean, in my mind they're already the same thing but now I'm going to have to get used to the idea that everything I've seen so far isn't CM2 at all. Is this correct? Thanks, DK

  17. One of the very noticeable differences between squads of different quality (IE regulars versus elites) was the time that it took them to respond to orders. Are you saying that it will take the same time for an order to be transmitted whether your troops are veterans walking across a quiet field or conscripts in the middle of an artillery barrage? Surely there must be some delay depending on a units' situation and training level like there was in previous CM games?
  18. ...in some future version of CM, multiplayer was put in? I was thinking something like having a big map with individual battles fought just like it is now, but giving the winner the ability to move his troops forwards to the next opposing force commanded by a different player and maybe get some reinforcements while the commander of the force that he defeated is out of that game? Dozens of battles raging all across the map, with some players staying at the same position, gaining familiarity with the surroundings and defeating as many opposing players as possible, receiving a reinforce after each battle before again being attacked. Craters and dead bodies and the blasted hulks of destroyed vehicles would stay in the map, perhaps giving the attacker some clues as to what had transpired before his arrival. This could continue until one side completely overtook the other or the people in charge of the side that was losing decided that continuing would be futile and not too fun and ordered a surrender, at which point a new map would start. Probably won't ever happen but hey.
  19. Enthralling... Actually, my computer is much too crappy to play either CM:BB or CM:AK right now, but I did buy and continue to enjoy the original CM:BO. I was just trying out CM:AK (with all the effects off and still at about 3 fps) and the thought came to me, so I thought I'd post about it here! Thanks for the kind responses, guys!
  20. Ever since I first started playing CM, I've had a habit of quitting in frustration and loading up a previous save to play again. I felt somewhat guilty because of this, but then I started to wonder whether what I was doing was normal. What do you guys think? Should a person stay in the game and continue playing no matter what happens or is it ok to loadup previous saves with the knowledge of what's going to happen?
  21. Well... thanks for answering the question, I guess
  22. Couple of questions... First of all, is this even possible? From reading the notice here: https://www.combatmission2.com/cmak_macosx.html I was under the impression that no version of CM would currently work under OSX at all, but from browsing the forums I'm seeing reports of workarounds for the problem... do any of them work? Secondly, I'm planning on getting a G5 sometime in the future. Would it be possible to use OS9 on it to play games like CM in the OS for which they were designed and to use OS9-only software, or is this completely impossible? I heard from someone that Apple removed the partitioning abilities from all their latest machines, but I haven't heard this confirmed by anyone.
  23. Hi guys. My dad refuses to order the game because he thinks that ordering it over the internet is "too risky" and he's afraid that it might not work. I've explained to him that I've already tried the demo and it WILL work, but he still won't bidge. That's why I'm appealing to you guys to help me end his stubbornness about this. Please post now!
