  1. I think the line says "In the biz of rolling dice, I'm a wizard". This is referring to her 133t dice rolling skills rather than her character class. Because then later on there is a verse about her stealing a wallet from a guy, so we assume she is a rogue.

But then she's shown using a lightning spell, so she could be a multiclass Thief/Mage. The real problem is that she's shown using a shield at one point, which is not permitted for either class.

  2. I'm sure there are similar goings on in the press all over the world but no press seems to be quite as Machiavellian as the UK press, not sure why. The Economist puts it down to the super competitiveness of the UK media but surly there is more to it than that?

There is greater competition and a much richer advertising market. But It's not just a case of more newspapers, it's a case of more market crossover between segments. In Australia most of the big cities have one broadsheet and one tabloid and people read one or the other. Not so in the UK where the newpapers are national and they're often competing for slices of the same demographic.

Plus I really do think that the Brits are totally nuts for celebrities. Much more so than here. TV and pop celebs seem to be much more devoured by so many segments of the UK population.

  3. I was struck by the fact that she claims to be a wizard but is carrying a bow. Obviously an elf or ranger class.

  4. Media Watch has been an Australian icon for years and has claimed some pretty big scalps. But IMHO it has got a bit lost in recent years, often devoting large chunks of time to castigating some stupid local paper over some stuff up....the sort of publishing house that has one or two recent journalism graduates trying to churn out 4 papers for different neighbourhoods every week. Who cares?

It's often preaching to the choir a bit too. The people who watch Media Watch aren't usually watching the sort of crappy journalism that it exposes and vice versa.

  5. Hopefully your grandfather's carcass isn't in the freezer, Emrys.

But haven't you ever seen women sharing a cake? There will be one slice left and they will gradually pare it down, just taking a small slice off the side. Because then nobody can be accused of having a "whole" second piece or have it said that "Claire finished off the cake". In the end you have to throw out this sliver of cake that's about three atoms wide.

  6. Funnily enough in my house lessons 1 and 2 are on a reverse gender basis. I'm always screaming about her not doing either of these things. Including her amazing trick of having four separate ice cubs trays, each with a single cube left in, thus giving rise to the excuse "It wasn't finished..."

  7. I recall reading somewhere they poured the explosves into the big bombs and it took a week or 10 days to cool the Tallboys down - can anyone confirm that??

Wiki actually says a month for the Torpex to set. And that was just one step. The bomb casing also took a long time to machine because it was done to very fine tolerances to get the right spin stability. Hence my comments about the production lag.

  8. I would swear that my grandfather's shirt had the patch on its shoulder, and he never rose above corporal. He certainly wasn't part of any top unit.

Maybe I'm misremembering? The shirt is long gone.

You don't have to be a general to work at HQ! They still have plenty of clerks, signallers, drivers and general gophers. (Or gophers for Generals)!
