  1. I would be happy to see a change with a trust system or whatnot in a future revision. If it is not reasonable to do now, fine with me but please do consider it in future engines. It would really speed things up especially when you have a demending work schedule and tries to play with friends with similar lifestyles and in different timezones to boot. That's all I wanted to add since the thread started with a simple request (and some not so simple demands) and I would like to raise a hand to support that reasonable request when it's feasible This flamewar where people have a go at each other digging up old grievances feels like an old relationship of mine....
  2. I don't know if bandwith has anything to do with it. My two regular opponents are on the Us East coast while I live in Sweden. All three of us have high bandwidth connections. It's not very convenient to schedule games so TCP/IP are rare while we have around two games going with each of us for a total of 4-5 PBEM games a day. It would speed up the games with a system either based on viewing once and then orders or a trust system. C'mon for the sake of the international brotherhood over timezones humour us.
  3. Aha. For me it always reverts to the CMBB PBEM directory. After loading six PBEM games or so in a row in one session it gets a bit old. Not that I can't live with it but it' still annoying. Weird that your copy remembers the last directory used but maybe you are sensible enough to move all your PBEM files to that directory first?
  4. How about remembering the last place you loaded a PBEM file from? Many programs remembers this and it would save some clicking on my part. Yup, I could use a PBEM loader and I'm a lazy bugger but it would be nice to just have it remember where my attachment directory is. Hopefully this won't be a big change in code but if it is forget about it.
  5. I played a QB defending as the Russian horde in an Winter assault in 1941. It was a great game with me having to shoot and scoot a lot to avoid being overwhelmed by the hordes of green and conscript Russians. My two AT guns (37 and 40mm) as well as the ATR's had to move a lot to be able to stop all those tanks (23 in total) that kept suppressing my Ski troops. In one such move a fresh platoon of BT7 tanks catches my Crack 37mm AT gun in the open and starts shooting it. They panic and start crawling to safety crying for Aiti (mother if you use the A with two dots). I wrote them off as dead when next turn I hear sounds of Perkele and other cussing and I suddenly see two BT7 being knocked out in quick succession. The Crew has gone fanatic and now only gets alerted. Now, fanatic Crack AT guns crewed by Finns are bad news for light armour. That AT gun had 14 kills at the end of the game and they ran out of AP so they used up all their HE to kill the last four tanks. In fact all of my company ran out of ammo with a few exceptions and there were still tons of Russians left even if they were shot up badly. It was struggle for life and death and the major victory felt like a real reward. The AI might have problems attacking but it picked a good spot to pour through my defences and even flanked my positions with a Tank platoon (right into the AT gun I placed that for that specific purpose). The real challenge was surviving the hordes it got with twice my points and using green and conscript troops. The battle was full of heroics and memorable moments. It seemed to capture the feel of the Winter war perfectly in that game. I had a Company against roughly a reinforced battalion of infantry and a Company or two of light and medium tanks. What a great game.
  6. *Spoilers* - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I sent one platoon plus Company HQ as well as flamer and assault team through the woods on move to contact orders. The secod platoon advanced and sneaked by the road to the patches of woods and scattered woods and hid there as close as possible to the trenches. There were some fire from the Wooden bunker and a HMG in the left wood but no casualties were caused and the men were only alerted. The MG's and the 81mm mortars went into hiding in the default positions. In the woods on my left flank I found the Russians so my men stopped and shot them up a bit while I moved two squads to flank them. This broke the Russians and they never stopped running until the third platoon joined my forces and wiped them up. I lost a few men and some ammo but wasn't that badly hurt especially with the welcome sight of platoon three. I advanced up the rear of the bunker to my left and from the depression next to it in the open I assaulted with one platoon (the one with less ammo) plus the assault team and FT while the others and the 50mm spotted with the Coy HQ supported with area fire towards the bunker and woods. The 81mm mortars and MG's suppressed the trenches and woods next to the leftmost bunker. The bunker was knocked out by the FT and I moved both platoons in teh woods suppressing everything in sight while the platoon that was hiding in teh patches of woods by the road advanced and assualted into the trenches out of sight of the middle bunker. After that I rolled up the line in alternating bounds with my platoons. A nice scenario indeed. Good learning tool.
  7. Some chrome I would like to see: 1.) Ability to buy Companies and even Battalions of tanks. Just treat them like infantry formations so you can pick the lower orginazation levels if you wish. Change platoon button to formations or something. 2.) As an alternative to 1.) Give the option to buy a HQ tank. Could be abusable but with a proper cost it should be fine. 3.) Give the option to edit unit ranks as well as names in the purchase screen and/or editor. Fixes some of my problems with 1. The Reason for the two above is that if I as an example want to simulate a Tank bat 43 pattern I have to buy six platoons of tanks and individual tanks to respresent HQ's but they are still just sergants and have no command bonuses. These changes would add a small bit of realism and I'd love to see them. I pity those that needs to go through all the lists though...
  8. Ahh maybe the trick is to E-mail Matt directly and not the sales@battlefront.com? Thanks. [ October 01, 2002, 03:01 PM: Message edited by: Hersir ]
  9. Sounds good. I heard the same and their attention to detail and net presence is very good. I just started to wonder after asking last Thursday and not getting any response yet. I sent a second mail recently in case it got lost. Normally I don't worry about these things but now it's a matter of life and death: CMBB! Thanks for the replies.
  10. Unfortunately my copy of CMMB seems to be lost so I'm trying to get in touch with Battlefront sales support. Has anyone tried this lately and what was your response time? Just wondering what to expect since I'm aware that they are not a huge company.
  11. Weird I replied to another post of mine but there you go. I guess the Msgboard hates me [ September 25, 2002, 04:00 AM: Message edited by: Hersir ]
  12. As a European, who thinks he can get his mittens on CMBB before or at the same time as the CDV version, I wonder if anyone that ordered through a US friend has had their copy delivered to said friend? My friend hasn't recieved it (or he's playing with my copy the git) and I saw that Agua hadn't got his European orders either. I had a order number in the eighties so it's not a late order. Anyone that has recived their precious contraband? [Edit: Just saw that several people has got their orders to the their middleman (Tiger). So all is bliss in CMBB land.] [ September 24, 2002, 04:21 PM: Message edited by: Hersir ]
  13. Got it last week to Sweden. Took from Monday (placed order) to Monday next week (ripped open the package). Regular mail doesn't get delivered on Weekends in Sweden. So now I need to convince my signifacant other that it was great buy and the "spending all my waking hours listening to explosions and staring at the screen" will stop soon...
