  1. My interface comment: I'd really like to see the morale indicator done in a way similar to the ammo indicator. The terms "cautious", "alert", etc. really have no meaning until you've been playing the game long enough to know which is worse. A full green bar (could be superimposed with "OK") indicates full morale. A full red bar means routed. Half green/half red = shaken or pinned. As the bar gets progressively redder, the appropriate text could be overlaid. Much easier to understand the morale level of your troops if there is a comparative indicator.

  2. It is possible for someone to not like this game, you know smile.gif It's certainly not for everyone.

I really like CM myself but there are some funky things about the interface. Inability to remap hotkeys is one, most games have this feature (even if you have to manually edit a text file).

Map movement is somewhat cumbersome. It scrolls smoothly, albeit a little slowly, when using the onscreen icons. Moving via the numpad is choppy. It would be nice if there were more mouse functionality with respect to rotating and moving the map.

The only other thing I want to add is that I wish the compass were displayed on the interface itself, and not as an actual object on the map. If I have to rotate around for 2 seconds to confirm which way is north, that's 2 seconds taken away from the game.

These are small things, but they do get in the way.

  3. 4 with one zoom is my fav for watching movies. The angle is a little nicer than 3.

1 is pretty important to use to get the "lay of the land" and see all those nooks and crannies. Much easier to see if you also turn off trees temporarily.

5 and 6 are best for precise movements, when you want to make dead sure you stay out splotches of terrain that slow your units. Or when you want to get right to the edge of that patch of woods.

I guess I don't understand what you mean here. CMBO is "too good" for the service itself, or for the people who play there? If it's the former, what is wrong with having a mainstream gaming service carrying the game? Maybe you would get some more good opponents to play.

If it's the latter, I respectfully submit that elitist attitudes like that are a big part of what is killing (killed?) wargaming. If you didn't know, it IS possible to like CMBO and also enjoy playing "clickfest" games.

  5. For those that don't know, Gamespy is an online multiplayer matching service with chat lobbies and game lobbies. I'm wondering if BTS/bfront looked into what it would cost to get the game supported there? While an online chat/game lobby is not that conducive for CM due to game length, I think that just having a presence on a major game network would bring in a lot more sales and make the game known to a much wider audience.

  6. Ok, just got the game, love it. Here's an idea I had, it's probably been suggested before but here goes--

Give squads and/or vehicles the ability to define fields of fire. Click the FoF option from the orders menu, a line extends from the unit to your mouse pointer. Click and hold to drag an arc that that unit is now responsible for (color is filled in on-screen). Then during the action phase, your units would be more likely to target enemy units that appear within this arc.

The benefit here is that you could set up better fire discipline. For example if you had 2 squads at the edge of a woods, one could target from 0 degrees ahead to 30 degrees to the left, the other could target 0 degrees ahead to 30 degrees to the right.
