1. There is a way to do a half-arsed simulation of this. Make a really tall, narrow hill on the edge of the map, and make a stream to entirely surround the top square. Place an arty spotter there and make it unavailable for setup (so it can't be moved). Like I said, half-arsed (and ugly), but it works. :D

Nope. I know a bigger one! A much much bigger one (i think). It is not CM, nor a war game. it is a first person shooter mod for Half-Life. Maybe u have heard of it. Day of defeat. click here and find message boards on the left after opening. Click Here! You may have more posts and threads but far less members (i believe)

Heh, I don't think, as fun as it is, that DOD counts as a wargame. If you insist on going there however, I think the CS forum is probably bigger. :D

    Here: Counter-Strike

Unfortunately, it's getting to be an ugly scene now. Oh well, guess I'll just have to switch back to DOD. :D

  3. I got a KT earlier tonight! Brit 3in. caught it in a wheatfield, which proceeded to burn, right after it bogged. The KT crew bailed! I'm soooo happy... :D Not to mention having used up my CM luck for the week! :D

I can now get some sleep.

'Cause I too sleepy to type coherently (even with two attempts).

While we're on this, what operations do people actually LIKE? I've found many of them quite frustrating because of problems with the setting of no-man's land, which often pushes the defender back no matter what, and other implementation issues that don't occur in battles.

The ones that are designed around a linear advance work particularly well. Son comes to mind as does Advance to Mortain, or whatever it's called, from the CD. We just need to ask BTS about improvements come time for CM2, assuming this hasn't been worked into CM:BB. Then the frustrating aspects should disappear.

    Language Change (sound's cool huh?)

Ahh, but then why not show your entire self and not just your sillouhette? What exactly are you hiding? :D

  6. I think what Cauldron was trying to say is that the way operations are implemented could use some enhancement. I would agree that they are not as playable as the scenarios and also that this can be fixed.

When I first got CM, I envisioned ops to be something like the system used in the KG Peiper HASL modules for ASL. As it is, it is difficult to recreate/play some of those hard-fought battles for little specks of turf across NW Europe.

This was something I was going to mention myself, but I really didn't see the point as I wasn't active here until CM:BB was pretty much set as a project. Perhaps for CM2...

Don't judge too harshly. The ops have such vast potential room for improvement that they could become just as popular as the single scenarios.

Uh, do you mean copied? From CD?

BTW, were you playing a big scenario on a lower-end system with lots of hi-res mods?

  8. Aside from gel mousepads, alternative pointing devices, etc. You could try this. Get a height-adjustable chair and move your mouse farther back on your desk. Ideally, with the two in combination, your fore-arm should be resting on the desk and at a right angle to your body with no back or shoulder strain to compensate. This, with a gel mousepad, should have you CMing in comfort. smile.gif

  9. Start big and narrow down. The Second World War by Keegan is pretty good. Also Total War though the author's names escape me right now is very good. Some west front materiel might be A Bridge Too Far, a classic. Also Steel Inferno and The Devil's Adjutant are excellent. For the east front you might try The Road to Stalingrad and The Road to Berlin. Some of the others should be able to fill you in on more equipment-oriented tomes.

Edited because I'm having problems posting tonight.
