  1. Hi Panzer Leader. Try this:- I'm going to assume that the CPU cooler came with the machine and is therefore right for the chip. If not GET A NEW ONE! Step 1. Buy some Arctic Silver thermal compound. You should be able to find an overclockers shop that sells it through Google. If it's OK then detach it from the Socket carefully. Does it either the remains of a pad on it's underside or some white goo? If so get that crap offa there! and also from the processor core. CAREFUL, don't scrape!! Especially with a metal object as the heatsink will only be aluminium or copper. Next lie something solid, flat and smooth on the bottom of the heatsink and hold it up to a lightsource. Can you see any light between the two? If you can, you will need to do some gentle smoothing/filling with the finest tool/paper you have. Once that is flat and smooth you can replace it. I know this is a `no brainer` but make sure that the `step` on the heatsink matches the socket. Put a bead of the Arctic Silver on the chip processor core and replace the cooler. When clipping the cooler on only apply pressure to the clip as leaning on the cooler to make it fit has been known to crush the core on Athlons!! I've seen CPU temps dramatically reduced through these simple steps without the need to buy noisy and expensive `super coolers`. Sorry for the lecture; Hope this helps. Dworkin
  2. Private Pike Thanks man but it looks like I'm going to find out myself. The choice came down to either a HP Omnibook X3 (S3 Savage IX chipset) or a Hi-grade Atlas flyer (SIS 630). The flyer won as it had the higher spec:- PIII 800 14.1 TFT DVD etc cost £997.58 I'll resurect this thread when it's delivered as it may be of some use to any CM players who want a laptop in the future. Once angain thanks all for the help!
  3. Thx for all the info everyone! Panzer Boxb: My budget is £1000-£1200 so no Geforce for me I suppose that the next best choice in this sorta price range would either be a 8Mb ATI or S3 Savage. Private Pike: I would be really interested in the results of your CM test!! The problem as all you laptop games know is that You are stuck with the graphics subsystem but with memory in freefall right now so I don't care if the graphic steal from the system as I can increase it. Sheesh don't these laptop designers understand that CM compatibility is part of the minimum spec!
  4. Thanks for the feedback guys! I was kinda hoping that someone was useing the SIS 630 chipset as altough it steals system memory, it can go upto 64Mb which MIGHT let me play CM:OB too. The online blurb says that it can do bump mapping and other cool stuff but who can trust that?! If nobody can help me out with the SIS I guess I'll have to trust to ATI Thanks again
  5. Hi I know that something like this has probably been asked many times but... For a variety of non CM reasons I need to get a laptop but on a budget. Most of the machines that I am looking at seem to use either a ATI Rage mobility (4 or 8Mb) or the SIS 630 or 630s. Can anyone tell me their experiences with these chipsets. Like 'IF' and 'how good'. Thanks guys
  6. Hey Wilhammer Tigers allied gun pack should be arriving in your inbox about now!
  7. Hi There are pleanty for the Puma and one that I know of for the Greyhound. Find them at Manx's great site  http://www.combat-missions.net/workshop/modlist.htm
  8. Thanks guys Yeah, I know it's unsporting and I wouldn't try it against anyone but the AI and not even then most of the time. The 'trick' that I was trying for though was to arrive on the last 'tick' of the last turn, preferably via a concealed route. As you say it has no basis in reality as it would not end there and you'd get creamed shortly after. The was just a technical question about how smart the game logic is in it's considerations. I'm slightly smarter too now Thx again. Dworkin
  9. Hi everyone! Sorry if this has been covered before and I missed it but... I've noticed the the AI sometimes does a blitzkrieg for the flag on the last few turns of a scenario (presumably in a dash to get points) so I thought that I would try it. Example: There are three objectives and you have taken and held the nearest two for much of the game and the enemy has done the same for the far one. On the last few turns you pour as many of your troops/armour at the enemy held flag timing it so that they will at least deny them a gimmie on a bunch of points. Trouble is, on the few times I've tried it the points total on the AAR do not seem much different from the previous turn. So my question is... are the results from the last turn fully included in the AAR? Thx for the help in advance!
