Flamethrowers- I like to put 'em near buildings I want to torch- as my infantry retreats house by house, I torch the houses I leave behind from the FT's pre-planned postition. Of course, the Wasp is better for that. German FT range stinks...only 32m range compared to American's 45m. I don't care that they have "medium" speed b/c if they maneuver they usually are toast.

Surely you must not have that "CM Scenario Megapack," the one that has around 800 scens and ops?
If you do, and you've played them all out, I am genuinely frightened. I must pbem w/ you to have my ass kicked/learn some things.
anyhow- wish i knew which site had the MegaPack- its about 15Meg zipped or so.

One time my opponent had a StuG behind a small hill, only 1 meter out of LOS from my Sherman directly in front of it, about 200m away.
I did "area fire" as close to the front of the Stug as possible, thinking I could either get a gun/track damage from the HE blast effect, or maybe spook it into moving in my LOS. Instead, my Sherman fired 2 round over the StuG, but then the StuG then hunted forward, right after my Sherman fired an HE shell. i thought he'd be toast.
but my Sherman was already "zeroed in" on the spot the Stug moved directly forward on, and my Sherman reloaded and fired right away, KO'ing it.
not a situation that comes up much, and i only won that matchup b/c my opponent broke a cardinal tank rule- don't fire from the same spot twice.

I've gotten burned badly thinking a nashorn was a hummel. Funny thing was, my priest seemed to know it before I did.
"What are you doing? Fire at the Hummel! Don't run! Get back there!"
Priest are rightfully 'fraidy-cats, yet sometimes too brave. I gave one orders to fast-move, with many waypoints, through and QUICKLY out of a PzIV's LOS. However, the Priest stopped dead in its tracks on sighting the PzIV, tried to duel it, and took 2 straight shots, brewing it up. If it had followed orders, it would have been in and out of LOS right quick. Court-martial to the survivors, I say.

From what I've heard this week on the forum, Combat bonuses only increase a unit's firepower...in an infantry/rifle squad sense. It apparently does nothing for towed guns, AAA, inf. AT teams, etc. that rely on a Blast Rating instead of Firepower Rating. I'm not sure about this, but that would mean no increase of accuracy?

I've seen a Panther? that was a Jagdpanther. And I just paid the price for assuming that a Halftrack? was a 251/1, when it was a 20mm 250/9 that ate my prized Scout Car.
I've also seen an M4A3(W)75mm Sherman as a Chaffee?
Some crews are dumb though, like a regular 40mm Bofors crew who thought a PzIV was a Tiger...all the way up to about 80m. Maybe they're programmed to be poor at ID'ing tanks, and better at "ID'ing" F/B's?

A month or two ago, there was a restored/refurb. SPW 251/1 Halftrack for sale on E-Bay for $18,000 US. I wonder what kind of gas mileage it gets.

I'm just fine.
I live in Queens, NYC, but was driving east to work and didn't see any of it. I had the radio on when the News Alert came on, and they were interviewing an eye witness who saw the 1st collision, and was still looking up and saw the 2nd one and started screaming.
Crazy. At least my brother & friends that work in Manhattan are OK, as far as I know.

I didn't have the luxury of being in "hide" mode and waiting until his PzIV was 300m away.
Picture a NARROW field of view | and it looked like his tank was going to (quickly) cross it / , and that would be at a range of about 450m.

Hmmmm, having brown foxholes on snow must really suck if you play Franko's True combat rules...it blows the camo away.
You can mod foxholes and craters...but it appears that there's only 1 .bmp for each, so you'd have to switch batch to the non-snow ones where applicable.

My two cents worth. I believe any unit can set an ambush marker, so your greyhound could have set the ambush marker and any other unit can target another units ambush marker.

Dooh! I didn't realize that I could do that. That shortcoming will probably cost me the difference b/w a draw and a minor win or better. live'n'learn. darned panzer that should be riddled w/ 40mm's is now merrily shelling my troops.

Fire & Maneuver is very good (as the Germans) to learn how to deal with anti-tank defenses.
I like South of Sword and also First Clash at Cambes (as the Germans) for a primer on Meeting Engagements.
Small Gain and St. Chappelle are good Tiny scenarios.

I finally resolved my AT gun ambush dilemma. I had to disguise the situation so my opponent, Soddball, wouldn't know what I had planned for his tank.
It was actually my Bofors 40mm AAA vs. his Panzer IVH, range approx. 450m. The "Stuarts" I didn't want the gun to shoot at were actually just infantry.
My opponent actually parked the PzIVH right where I wanted him to, within the AA guns tiny window of LOS. I opened up on the tank with a Bazooka right in front of it at 165m (hail mary shot attempt), a Greyhound to its right at 300m, and a .30cal to its right to distract/button it up.
I got screwed, b/c the AAA gun DIDN'T OPEN FIRE AS ORDERED. The kill% was LOW, but orders are orders, aren't they? Anyhow, the bazooka missed 4 shots, and the 5th ignited the house he was in (he fled and survived). The Greyhound and Panzer traded shots, each missing 4 times, with the Panzer KO'ing the 'Hound on the 5th shot.
ONLY THEN did my Bofors open up, 45 seconds into the turn. If it had fired earlier, it may have gotten a killing Side/flank shot, since the Panzer was rotated around 90 degress to engage the Greyhound on its left flank. As it was, the Panzer rotated around to MG my Bazooka, and thus had a (safe) frontal aspect to the Bofors. On the next turn, I pinged 11 shots off the Panzer as it retreated straight backwards. Only when it was 530m+ did I hit the thin turret, but the range prevented a penetration.
The Bofors crew has already been cited for an upcoming court-martial...apparently they don't like LOW% shots unless my Global Morale drops when the AFV they are trying to protect dies. (dooh!!!)

It can be useful to bug out if your Platoon HQ gets eliminated and you don't want the Platoon to get squished.
Its too bad that you can't add a 2nd movement order to the W-command.

[QB]Hello,
My suggestion to all of us who like to keep our beloved guns alive: a good anti-arty position (i.e. on a slope) is OK, but it's imperative to have a HQ with a moral bonus to lead these guys! And it works!
(Donning steel helmet) Any comments?

Its also good to have a Sharpshooter button up the Tank/s you're targeting with the ATG. They're less likely to spot the Gun if it keeps missing.
The trick you speak of with the slope will certainly be less effective if the enemy hits you with bigger artillery than a 'lil old 81mm due to the (tremendously) higher blast radius.
I also look for combat bonuses for an ATG to increase the hit%.

W/- my game handy - are the points cost for Mech Inf different to regular Inf?
You can check it out yourself but...YES the Motorized and "Armored" Panzergrenadier squads are more expensive...because they have better weapons than Rifle Squads...more LMGs, SMG, assault rifles (MP44s).

Hmmm. I know what 3 Vickers can do at 400m while my enemy is in Wire. 12-15 HMGS? You sadist! You must be a worthy opponent...since you are so de-sensitized to your own (pixelated) troops' slaughter.

Not quite, but in the Villers-Bocage operation, I had a Crack Tiger rotate its turret 180 degrees to shoot up a fleeing crew...while still moving forward towards a collection of Cromwells and Shermans. A Cromwell then KO'd it with a rear turret shot.
Lousy way to lose a Crack Tiger, eh?
