    wait a minute... where would the germans have captured the 81mm ammo? the russian equivalent was 82mm wasn't it?

    it's my understanding that the german 81mm ammo would work in a russian 82mm tube but not the other way around.

    is that right?

  2. it seems like a lot of the features people are asking for here are going to be delivered in the next release after cm2.

    my understanding is that cm2 is going to be the same engine as cmbo with units from the russian front.

    then later on there will be 'cm2+' with trenches, different soviet command structure, mine dogs (just kidding), etc.

    does anyone have a list of what changes we might see in the first cm2, with its, 'same engine as cmbo?' i mean, will there at least be some new terrain tiles or 'somefink?'

    again, comparing to squad leader, the tigers are a disappointment in cmbo.

    the lack of optics modelling is one of the letdowns.

    now in that regard, maybe squad leader had it wrong and cmbo gets it right; it just doesn't 'feel' like it.

    i love the tiger tank, but would never buy one in a quick battle.

  4. i don't know about this whole debate, but having once played a lot of squad leader, here is what i do know:

    i miss the 'thing' in squad leader where a couple of machineguns could literally wipe out a platoon of enemy infantry in a heartbeat.

    in cm, it seems like infantry are almost never in that kind of danger from machineguns, particularly at longer ranges.

    in squad leader, even at longer ranges a platoon could get hosed from time to time.

    i miss that aspect of squad leader.

    hey i resemble that remark. ==laugh==

    either those or the 7/1s... and throw in pupchens and 75mm recoilles and you have lots of cheap german firepower.

    i used to call for the inclusion of this one, but then i read that the firing of the gun would warp the chassis of the vehicle; so maybe it's a good thing they left it out.

    you might be able to find it at 'east front books' or some such. i believe they're located in virginia.

    on carell, some will say he's not accurate, but the material seems accurate to me. he is admittedly partisan to the wermacht side; perhaps at times embarrassingly so, at least in this age of political correctness.

    i agree with most everything but that.

    some of the european towns had very narrow streets.. sometimes i'll just put a bunch of small buildings in a cluster and leave it up to the player to 'imagine' the narrow lanes running between them.

    this is only done with dry or very dry conditions though, in order to best represent those streets.

    i don't think that they'll be _that_ potent, but i'm fairly certain that a direct hit from the 152mm HE will be bad for a panther.

    su-152 - 'zverdoy' (beast killer)

    i remember reading somewhere that the soviets enjoyed employing artillery (76, 122, 152) in direct fire. that will be fun too.

  11. a plain old su-152 will be good enough for me.

    in any event i'm fairly certain that 152mm HE will be good against just about any target.

    the bt5/7 are going to be fun too.

    oddly enough, i want to see more german halftracks, particularly the 37mm recon varieties.

    is/2 is another one...

    oh, and su-76,

    ...and pzIII, and pz35 and 38t

    'stay away from those woods, there might be at-rifles in there!'

    yeah it really sux when the other guy has a tank and you don't; i mean if his tank has any decent HE capability.

    lots of caveats here... like how big is the battle (how much remaining infantry is there?... are there any AT assets which might have a chance of 'getting' the other guy's last armor?... is his last tank engaged in close combat in a city where it might quickly be destroyed?)

    generally though - all other things being equal - it's no fun when the other guy has armor and you don't.
