  1. I would like to hear about the strategy guide (strategy of war) that has been recently released by Battlefront.

Who has purchased it? What is your opinion about it?

And one "technical" question: Is it possible to print at least its main part to be able to read it away from the computer? In principle I don't like reading long texts on the computer...

  2. I still can't launch options.exe ....

I know i can edit the ini files, but I don't wanna dig in there each time i want to change something. I get the hour-glass for a second, when I try to launch options.exe, but nothing happens, the options window won't come up. (.NET installed)

So does anyone else have this problem?

I do have that problem also. The odd thing is that I am using Windows XP (SP3) Home edition...

  3. the options.exe doesnt work for me. i cant start the program. The game works well.

    im runnning vista 64bit.

i there a way to get the options.exe runnning. i also want to get rid of the autopause function, its annoying.

    thx.

I can't start the "options.exe" program. When I double click on the program nothing happens. The odd thing is that I am using Windows XP Home, with Service Pack 3 and all the updates from microsoft installed (including .NET 3.5).

    Very strange... Any clue?

  4. But I would also like to remind anyone (R33GZ)that I gave soooo many stop and defend orders, in groups, that my fingers were starting to hurt!
I think that the STOP order should be renamed as CANCEL order... It is clear that the name STOP causes too much misundertanding in it... It is really a CANCEL order.

  5. Let me ask you this question though.. Although I can't say for sure yet if the program itself will be ready for the "uber-patch" release, how would you guys at least like to see the docs for the new Battle Generator program (with screenshots of it in action)?
I would like to see those docs as soon as they are ready. The quick battle generator sounds like an excellent addition for TOW.

  6. Madmatt,

Thank you very much for the information. We would appreciate it very much if you could keep us informed about the progress on the pacth and about the new features. I have been reading the forums quite frequently and during the last weeks it seemed obvious that you were going to release the pacth at least for Christmas. Sincerely, not having the patch (that IMHO TOW really needs!!) for the Christmas vacations is a big dissapointment for me. I also think that smaller but more frequent patches (as you do in CMSF and you did in CMBO) would be also the best policy for TOW.

  7. Rune,

First of all, thank you very much for the information and for all the work you are devoting to TOW.

Patches do NOT have to be released asap, but when they are ready. Introducing more or different errors cuts down on the enjoyment for others.
Rune, the policy that you are following with the patches for TOW does not seem consitent with the one you follow with other of your main products like CMSF (or CMBO). In 5 months you have released 5 patches for CMSF, and you are planning to release one more in the next month. On the other hand, in 8 months you have released just 1 patch for TOW. It is very difficult to understand for your customers (me included smile.gif ) why you are delaying the release of the patches for TOW so much when you are continuouly releasing patches for CMSF... If you were following the same policy with CMSF you would have released just one patch for CMSF until now... Why what is good for CMSF is bad for TOW?

  8. Battlefront.com and Kalypso Media are thrilled to announce that the German version of Theatre of War by 1C Company (makers of IL-2 Sturmovik) is going to be available in stores in Germany, Austria & Switzerland on October 25th, 2007. The German special retail edition is going to feature a completely new and never before published German campaign ("Panzer Lehr") as well as a number of improvements and additional features.

What improvements and additional features are you speaking about? When will they and the "Panzer Lehr" campiagn be available for us??

  9. I agree with Nachinus:

    - Infantry squad acting as a unit, with proper AI tactical behaviour. The squad leader should not wander away from his squad. The squad should move coordinately.

    - Tanks operating in two different modes: when the commander has his hatch opened, they have good visibility, but when the commnader has his hatch closed, then the visibility is restricted to the proper angles provided by the vision slits.

    - Better scenario design. No puzzle-like scenarios. No fighting against absurd odds. Better balanced scenarios.

  10. LOF indicator is the mouse cursor, when it is lit (red), unit has LOF to that point, and can't fire when it's black (it has middle positions too). It's possible to have LOF but no LOS (blind ground attack is possible with reduced accuracy).

Green (for now) part of the LOS line actually shows the area where unit sees through trees and bushes. This small zone differs for unit types (only 5m for tanks, 10m for guns and infantry). It allows to hide behind trees and bushes (you will see through it while enemy will detect your gun (for example) through this bush only at very close distance if it doesn't shoot).

The system is kinda complex, because your hidden gun becomes visible after shot for some time (because of sound, smoke, etc.). It all depends on obstacles too, enemy unit will see your gun after shot only if there are not too many obstacles between it and enemy unit. In short, in this case

    enemy unit--------------------bush-bush-gun fires

enemy will see the gun, while in another case

    enemy unit-----------bush----------bush-gun fires

    enemy won't see it.

Naturally, big bushes are much better for hiding than trees because it's difficult to hide a 3m wide gun behind 50cm wide tree trunk:) Also, there are many parameters (for example, 'revealing' of the firing unit heavily depends on weapon type - pistol, rifle, gun, etc.) and they are defined in visibility.ini (which means they are moddable).

    Excellent !!!

This tool will improve gameplay a lot. I can't wait !!!
