  1. That makes some sense. Thanks.
  2. Sorry if this has been asked and answered before: When I give a troop unit or vehicle a movement order and require it to rotate a certain direction, the "rotate to" line appears purple. But sometimes, for some reason, it appears red. Can anyone tell me why it turns red? thanks
  3. voila!!! (the vehicles actually ended up in the northeast corner, but they're there! thanks.
  4. I am playing CMBO, and the mission is called Meyer's Decision 3. Location field says "on map." I have 6644 total points listed, comprised of 1515 infantry, 510 support, 0 vehicles, 3514 armor, 1105 artillery and 0 fortification. I'm trying to add several halftracks to give the axis troops more mobility. I've added the vehicles on the "chosen" list but as I said, they don't show up either in preview mode or when the game is played. thanks for the help!
  5. Actually, the halftracks don't show up in the preview mode either. It's weird. They're listed under "chosen" in the units section, but they don't show up in the maps section or when I actually load the game to play. I'm wondering if by adding halftracks i've gone over my points allotment, but there's nothing telling me that or giving me an error message. And there doesn't appear to be a way to increase my points allotment. I'm stumped!
  6. I am trying to edit a battle to give the German forces more mobility by adding some halftracks. So I loaded the game into scenario editor and went to the units section, and then added the halftracks into the mix of axis forces at the beginning of the game. Then I saved the game, giving it a new name. But when I opened that new game, the halftracks didn't show up. I've tried this three times, and I've read the manual on the subject backwards and forwards. But I can't figure out whether I've "purchased" more halftracks than I can have or if I missed a step. I also can't figure out if I can change the total points so as to allow me to purchase more units. Can someone help?
  7. Schrullenhaft, memory allocation was preset at minimum, 37609 and preferred, 43609. I'll increase the minimuim to 42000. Also, I'm using 9.04. I could upgrade to 9.1, but I thought I read somewhere tht CM was unstable in 9.1. Heard anything about that?
  8. When you said lower resolution, I presumed you meant changing from 800x600 to 640x480. But that only produced a blotch of pinkish purple that resembled a rorschach test gone awry. And the game would not play using 1024x768 resolution. Now, I'll try 800x600 and use 256 color depth instead of "thousands."
  9. I am using an IMac with lots of RAM. I'll try the resolution fix first and see what happens. thanks
  10. I'm in the middle of a battle and my keyboard and my mouse have beenf reezing at separate points. It's very dismaying. If I trash the CM preferences file, will that help but will it also erase my saved game? thanks
  11. Frequently, when I LOS or target a building, one or two asterisks appear next to the building type, ie., "light building*". What does that mean? I can find no explanation in the handbook. thanks  [ 04-14-2001: Message edited by: HSample ]
  12. I bought a lot more RAM, and just as many of you predicted, CM is a lot more stable. I've also limited the extensions I have running when playing CM. Thanks for the suggestions!! My faith in humanity has been restored!!
  13. Thanks for those ideas. I will buy more RAM and do as otherwise suggested. Maybe there is a future for CM in my world!!
  14. Thanks for the informative responses. Here's what I can tell you about my system: I have a cranberry (or is it strawberry? It's red) IMac, 266 mhz, PowerPC G3. It came with 32 RAM and I added another 32. It has an ATY RagePro_C card, with 6 mgs VRAM. Currently, the monitor is set at "thousands" of colors, and the resolution is 800x600, 95 mhz. Perhaps I should change to 640x480? I have not changed the memory requirements for the CM program. It is now set at 34000 minimum and 40000 preferred. KMead, what other specific device and extension info do you need? thanks again!
  15. I like Combat Mission. I want to continue playing it. But I'm getting highly frustrated and annoyed by its near-constant freezing. I use an IMac, running 9.0.4, with 64 mgs of RAM and 19 mgs of virtual memory. I have downloaded and installed the patchs, so I now have combat mission v 1.12 -- and still it freezes. It's quite maddening when this happens after I've plotted the movements and targets of dozens of soldiers/equipment. And it's almost time to give up on the game because of its lousy reliability. It just is not as much fun anymore. I gladly will accept suggestions, but the best resolution is a program that doesn't freeze.
  16. Well, dang! I guess i'll only be able to play it on my mac!! <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Madmatt: Combat Mission doesn't work on NT. It works on 95/98/ME/2000 but not NT. 17. I am having a problem after installing combat mission on a PC, running Windows NT Workstation. After installation, when i try to run the program, I get the following message box: "The procedure entry point DirectDrawEnumeratorExA could not be located in the dynamic library DDRAW.dll." I see in a previous post that a download of Direct Draw from Microsoft's site was recommended for a similar problem. However, the instructions for that download notes that it is not needed for Windows NT. Any suggestions?? thanks
  18. Thanks, jd. I will trash preferences file and restart. Wasn't sure what you meant by "switching to fast/compatible smoke." And I will search the tech forum for this "thingie." If you come up with a better description, please let me know!
  19. Just 1. What preferences should I change?
  20. Help! I am playing battlefront on an IMac that has 64 megs of ram built in and 30 more from virtual memory. The game is playing with 40 megs of ram devoted to it and no other programs running. But more and more, it runs sluggishly, especially in orders phase, and frequently the keyboard or the mouse freezes, or the whole game locks up. I try restrating and rebuilding the desktop, and that doesn't do the trick. Any suggestions out there?
  21. Well, it's working great now! I downloaded and installed the newest version of game sprockets from the apple site, as well as the current version of combat mission from the battlefront site. And everything, keyboard included, is operating correctly. Another satisfied customer! Thanks to all who replied!
