  1. Dmart:

This group is one of the best on any message board out there and I was curious how many were interested in AOS2 since it also deals with historical combat.

When you see the "OT:" it means off topic. Don't read them if its going to get your panties in a bunch.

Hope the above was not hard for you to understand.

  2. Major WS&IM player here. I still have it, though it was last used in 1985 or so.

Computer WS&IM was an adaptation of the baord game, so it was not real time.

AOS-I was entertaining, but it got a little repetative and was missing a couple of little details that could have made it great. Here's to hoping this new engine can deliver.

  3. Pretty amusing 10 or so seconds last night against the AI. I set up a 1,250 point QB to test some of the artwork and the mod manager.

I had tanks fanned out from one side of the map to the other. Stuart1 on the far left flank was scooting fast towards cover.

    Withing less than 10 seconds:

    Stuart1 taken out by Panther,

    Panther taken out by Stuart2,

    Stuart2 taken out by Stug,

Stug taken out by M4A3 (second hit, rear shot)

Position of each Shooter was a zigzag right across the map.

Probably not uncommon, but it sure made me laugh.

  4. I'm not sure that I copied the files from the CD, because I uninstalled and re-installed the manager & probably forgot.

Stupid question - I guess the core files option is for when you want to "bail out" and start from scratch. For the number of times you'd have to do that, why not drag the bmps and wav folder from the cd?

Anyway, when I get home 2nite I'll try to get the manager to reinstall the core files from the hard disk. Whatever directory works for the 234mb zip file, I'll let you

    know.

Last night I set up a QB armor battle with low vis US Stuarts and modded M4A3 Shermans, then later set up a similar battle with camo Stuart Vs, Fireflies, Sherman IIs and bicolor Churchills. Changed Panther schemes, too. Took all of a minute to switch the artwork with the manager. The camo Brits are really cool looking.

  5. A couple of tips from my experience:

Each time you create a mod, go out to the mod list, and allow the program to re-sort. You can see the screen flicker as the order is shuffled. I got the page error when I created too many mods at one time.

Forget batch files. I delete the icons and the batch files. Then I unzip all the files to a directory named for the mod (\Stuart_MB for example). Then, I create subfolders in this folder for each option and extra and move the files to the folder that describes them. Some examples from memory:

    Options:

    Stuart_MB\US

    Stuart_MB\UK

    Stuart_MB\Canada

    Stuart_MB\Free French

    Extras:

    Stuart_MB\US_bloc

    Stuart_MB\UK_bloc

    Stuart_MB\UKCamo

    Stuart_MB\USCav

    Stuart_MB\USlowvis

Remember that some files are common and sit in the main folder (\Stuart_MB in this case). Also, the manager program does not seem to look more than one folder "down" in the hierarchy when you add options and extras, so don't put the US bloc extra in the US folder (Stuart_MB\US\US_bloc\)

I then zip the main folder into one archive, recursing folders.

When I "Load Mod " in CMMM, it unzips the entire archive into a CMMM\mods\tmp folder.

Then its a matter of correctly assigning each folder to the Options section or the Extras setting. Don't forget to add a preview (I can't keep track of all these panthers and tigers! smile.gif)

Don't forget to strip the descriptive text off of the .bmp files. 3360_US.bmp has to be 3360.bmp.

I know, this seems like a lot of work, but when you're done, its truly slick.

    Regards,

    GP

p.s. I'm sure if I've misstated anything someone will chime in, but the above is working.

  6. I owned 'Luftwaffe' first, but only played it once. So, AH 'War at Sea' was my first frequently-played tabletop wargame.

'Patton vs. Rommel' was the first computer game.

    How far we've come.....

  8. I'd like to be able to place a marker on the ground like an ambush marker, then tell my tank to move in the direction I specify until it achieves a hull down position relative to that spot.

How about giving US Infantry squads a random, limited-ammo bazooka that they would use independantly at ranges under 75m. Rationale (based only on what I've read) being that most units scrounged bazookas and used them in close quarters as the first option before close assault.

Allow spotters, mortars and fixed guns to dig in for all types of scenarios.
