  1. Before the patch, you just haul as many small caliber cannons as possible... then immobilize the behemoth and keep ponging its armour and the crew will eventually bail out ;)

Thats how I killed KV in the boring scenario with few Pz38t and Pz-IIs, with later reinforcement of PzIIIs and 88mm Flak.

    Lost couple Pz38t's only ;)

They shot on the move and KV got immobilized, soon after crew bailing out.

Good thing that'll be fixed in next patch... whenever that is :(

  2. Radeons do have superior image quality over the geforces, what comes to accuracy of it.

Although geforces are more reliable all around - aka everything will work.

in 2d and 3d radeons will win geforces with image crispness hands down.

    Mastergoodle,

TNT2 is a bottleneck with any CPU over 600mhz.

So I really doubt it's performing better than other cards if you're having like +800mhz CPU.

I went from TNT2 to Radeon 64mb while I had celeron at 850mhz (overclocked 566, working even better than at nominal clocks :>) and the difference in performance was huge.

FPS got much better all around.

Radeons however does not handle table fog, so it becomes a problem in some games.

Right out of memory comes in mind games like Combat Missions, Rogue Spear and Americas Army.

In RS and AA there is certain advantages without the fog, but in Combat Mission theres no advantage, except less prettyness.

However with GeForces same thing is achieved just as easily as disabling table fog ;)

    LTankersley,

Image quality DOES differ between video cards.

With GeForces it can even vary between the producers.. different GF GPU based graphics card producer can have better or worse image quality than the other.

With Radeons and Matrox graphics cards this is far lesser issue.

Matrox has the best image quality of the three, while Radeon is close second.

Having used variety of graphics cards, I can tell you there *is* a difference.

For example in simple 2D display status, say.. a yellow word fonts are solid yellow with Radeon, but with GeForce can have different shades of yellow.

Crispness is noticeable if takes a good look.

Then theres of course the things which affects graphics quality, which on the other hand is different issue than image crispness.

Anyone whos put some time into graphic card differences, can say that GeForces has always had worse image crispness than Radeons.

  3. I think 37mm has bit too much penetration in CMBB, although alot of guns seem to have bit extra penetration power. (37mm has quite alot extra power...)

45mm M42 AT-gun is better than 37mm and 45mm M38 is slightly worse it seems like.

    Busboy,

The game stats says "Large HE charge" with 45mm, so I take that as APHE.

APHE usually has worse penetration than solid AP, albeit having much greater after penetration effect.

I just wonder why russian 45mm and 76mm has 'large he charge', but not the german 37mm, 75mm or 88mm families.

  4. I've often seen tanks shoot trucks with high caliber cannon shells and seen the trucks run away or finally get the lethal shot and slows down.

especially seen this happen with halftracks..

One wierd thing is with AT rifles: penetrations after penetrations and lightly armoured tank/halftrack or even truck keeps going.

Would think that truck would stop quickly after couple ATR shots in the engine or driver ;)

Actually, by british terms, the 380mm round would be equal to 700-750lbs bomb.

British bombs has less explosives / weight than german bombs.

it's something in the range of 35% vs. 55% of the weight for the advantage of german bombs.

    Bullethead,

125kg explosives in the 345k shell, thats over 270lbs ;)

  6. Externally loaded?

    "The Sturmtiger was armed with a short-barreled 38cm Raketenwerfer 61 L/5.4, breech-loading rocket launcher/mortar"

    Powerful?

"In January 1945, a single round from a PzStuMrKp 1001 Sturmtiger reportedly destroyed three American M-4 Sherman tanks located in a targeted village."

"The main armament could be traversed by hand 10 degrees to the left and right and elevated from 0 to a maximum of 85 degrees"

    85 degrees!

Each rocket was comparable to about 250kg bomb. (125kg explosives - note: bombs aren't filled up to last bit of weight with explosives, but german bombs are like 55% explosive/weight)

    :D

  7. akdavis,

Actually the idea of molotovs is partly to drive the crew out of the tank, forced by the burning fumes.

You don't want to stay long inside a tank which is getting filled up by fumes of burning gas/oil etc.

Also sometimes tanks were attempted to immobilize by throwing objects in the tracks, like big log.

Then it'd be just matter of time until the crew would be forced out.

Unfortunately the game doesnt model the *various* ways of disabling a tank.

Since russians doesn't have radios in every tank, I've also heard stories of them opening the hatch thinking there is friendly troop with something urgent, when theres really been enemy knocking on the hatch in attempt to get the commander unbutton.

  8. I've had squad with over like 73-78 kills, I don't remember exactly.

Today finished scenario where I had several squads with over 20-30 kills.

Once a pioneer squad got 24-27 kills plus two BT's and T34.

Usually without much losses, 1-3 men at most or nothing.

Got to love suppressing enemy and then rushing after them ;)

    Zukkov,

All the kills are reported in the map after the scenario has ended.

    During the scenario those aren't.

  9. Try pioneer squads with satchels, those makes good work at close range :D

once I finished up BT5 or 7 (I dont remember which) with a pioneer squad which had already destroyed T34 and another BT5 or 7 with satchel.

Since satchels were used, they had one molotov and bunch of grenades - after two or three rounds of working on it, they finally managed to knock it out with a grenade.

So not so good experiences ;)

I just laugh when I see them trying to lob molotovs or grenades on the tanks :I

  10. I would like to be able to set the gamma higher than it's possible right now.

The in game gamma has to be high/highest for me to keep the 'natural' brightness (thanks to monitor being dark, it's already at maximum brightness)

Night fights are about impossible for me, since even when playing during real night, I can't see one thing of the ground objects on the screen or the units unless I manage to choose one.

Any ideas how to get the gamma higher?

    ...a little patch idea too.

With Radeon it was easier, when it had option to not let the games change gamma under any circumstances, but the GF4 does not have such option which is a pity :(

  11. Problem with CMBB's AI is that it lacks variety.

It always attacks using same routines.

You're pretty safe in defense if you just find the most covered place from the map and set up defenses around it, since AI will use the route with best cover with infantry.

Tanks usually comes separately from infantry and often seen them roaming to the target by roads, whether there is road around.

Sometimes couple tanks comes from other end, when AI has more than few tanks.

  12. Cameroon,

I did that at 170-230 meters, he the sniper ignored all the targets except the ones I gave :>

Those which I gave, ran off after first bullet landed..

    Peterk,

...from where we get to unimportant targets.

How would it be able to find such important targets if at ~200 meters everything is 'infantry squad'?-)

So maybe you can tell me a good reason why this is even an issue, no one else has?

I don't understand whats the problem with hacking game, where you're not causing any problems for others (aka multiplay cheating) or the publisher/developers.

It's not like they're going to get to read the source code.

and it is always at their own risk to use 'hacked' stuff.

Let's remember that hacking proved SOME game publishers to allow modding some games, when they noticed the mods, which were made possible for unmoddable games by hacking, were increasing the sales and customer happiness.

(...and of course hacking is wrong term for the thing, but whatever, it's a thing which every john doe knows only as 'hacking')

If I get on the mood, I'll be hacking any game I want for the single play and possibly for arranged multiplayer games, but not for cheating unwary people.

It's fun and causes no harm to anyone (other than hacker himself, if he screws up something wevvy badly :>).. so whats the big deal?

  14. My tank hunter teams always gets mowed down by infantry or then they get shot to bits by tanks, before doing any harm to them :I

I also laugh when tank hunter team has molotovs and grenades, while my regular troops carries panzerfausts or satchels.

I've also witnessed a tank hunter team which didn't get anything else but typical grenades.... go figure

    Snarker,

    pst... close quorters ;)

  15. Oh come on.. even US military uses nowadays metrics :D

    120mm cannon, 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 155mm....

Funny thing is; CM seems to use this metric/imperial mess just like US military, not just metrics or imperial.

For such game metrics should be the right one, the best for warfare usage because of it's simplificy.

Doesn't have to know how much inches there are in a foot or how many ounches in a pound, it is simple enough to have 100cm = 1m, 1000m = 1km, 1000g = 1kg, 1000kg = 1 ton..

So simple and fast to use.

Even brits are changing to metrics..

Although I wonder when they'll change to the right side of road.. even the wording says you should drive on the right because it's right.
