I only said that the recon platoon gets "chewed up" because they often fall victim to ambushes. That's part of their job, to find or spoil the ambushes...

Note that I used “you” not as you personally, but, “you” as a CM commander…

I noticed that you didn’t perform the supreme “recon by death” technique…

In likes of: “LMG frontline convicts” or “Jeep .50 woods hugging” or yet any of its more “retard" degenerations smile.gif

When well supported (same turn support) your “recon platoon” can move to the class of “storm platoon” and take a less suicidal battle approach ;)

Correction, not "recon platoon", but "suicide platoon" :D

You are one of those "recon by death" COs that, If I was under your command, I would shoot in the back... war “accidents” do happen, you know ?!

Luckily for you, in CM, bullets only fly in one direction ;)

  3. You can see your Motherboard in any of these ways:

    1) Open computer and see smile.gif

    2) (wish I advice) When your computer powers up, when it is on the 1st Black with white letters screen, on the line immediately above your CPU name and speed (AMD 800 MHz)...the first 2 words are the MB manufacturer and model.

Use it to do a search for the latest drivers on the INET... Before download check 1st if it is the Motherboard manufacturer official site in order to make sure they are the latest.

    ...

kind of... that is the AGP port dirver, by the way there is a least a 1.72 version avileble.

You have an ALI chipset... never used one, but there is a posibility that your board is an ASUS.

...but anyway, it seams you don't have a VIA or AMD chipset, so for now forget the 4 in 1 drivers.

...but the idea remains, update your motherboard drivers ;)

That isn’t a problem, ACP IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering is meant to be together with any PCI device you may have…

    Possible actions:

-If your Motherboard has a built in sound card or was primarily design with one (wish means yours may not have a Soundcard on it but the architecture is there) then you must go to the BIOS and disable it…

-If you have an ASUS motherboard make sure you have the latest 4 in 1 (or 3 in 1 wish ever applies to yours) board drivers…

-Try change the buffer of your sound card (in Audio HQ)

-Disable any memory resident programs wish may be “sharing” your sound card.

-Use DXdiag to check for any possible conflicts with your Sound/Video cards… follow its instructions

-Make sure your OpenGL (and DX as you are on it) settings are ok… the standard setup whish comes from Micro$soft is no good (since you fresh installed DX 81…maybe you forgot this)

Can’t think of any thing else right now… hope it helps smile.gif

  6. As for my last post... Obviously I started the post earlier and finished it after MM

I'm sorry Madmatt, but this kind of attitude just put me in "sarcastic" mode...

Anyway, even with sarcasm or not, I tried to help this obviously young gentlemen to put is computer in a more conflict free and faster mode ...

I defy any one here to prove what I typed (not the sarcasm part, the sarcasm was an authors divagation for the less enclosed minds) is wrong or will in any way downgrade CM performance...

As for me I’m moving out of this topic…no need to close it ;) … best of luck for the ones staying on it.

  7. Sargeant_Isa, read well what Cani as typed, because it is a fine exemple of a Phobic Senior mind. Do avoid if you can, it is never too late...

As for you Cani... one sentense: Too much TV

PS- Do notice I never used rude language in my posts, I just don't need it, and after all it’s just a board...

Although I do advice, that as come to my attention in the last few years on this board that this kind of faulty language (f word up) is not permitted here…

One member, and a far more contributing one then both of us together, at least as I remember well was banned from the forum because of it…

I’m not saying a I agree or not with it… I’m just saying it is the “house rules”, and as we both are guests here, we all should follow the “house rules” or risk being kicked out.

So far I’ve done my part, just try a little bit harder and do yours ;)

Hmm... Well this was my best bet for your port lock up (7023), but since you are sure you turned off “Zone Alarm” … No go area then...

MO monitor, yeah worth it, why well is saved my pc from melt down over week and told me my fan was dying, well now my pc is ok

If have read the readme file that comes with that windows MB monitoring software, you knew what I was talking about.

Since you obviously didn’t, I will do you a favor and resume it here for you…

That peace of windows software is far more imprecise then the one that comes in your system BIOS… If you have a more precise and non system resource consuming “program” in your BIOS why use a less precise and resource consuming one ?!?

The windows version is more beautiful…must be that

    zonealarm

is a good software program and i have had people hacking into my system.

No doubt zonealarm it self :D

As for you the “hacker” word probably means what you heard saying in the afternoon TV news bulletin, I fell that I’m preaching to the fishes here… never the less, I will give you a hint. Contrary to what you may have heard, “hackers” don’t eat their own children

As you didn’t said what INET connection type you have, analog phone line, ISDN, ADSL, DSL, XDSL , Cable, Network, mail pigeon or what ever … there is no away of predicting how easy it would be to access you hard disk from a remote computer.

I can’t imagine what would happen if some one paid a visit in the interior my PC… ohh horror, the horror … the HORROR!

As a meter of fact, I don’t check it for quite a long time… my PC must be full of guests, all walking inside with total freedom and having their fun… hahaha

So many things about my live… sniff … they would find out my secrets… sniff … for only 50$ CM have been there for last 2 years… :D

I here invite every one in the INET to my PC, the only thing I ask is for them to leave every thing as it was after the party ends…

As for u get a life.

    hahaha...

    Hold on there junior, don’t crack… don’t CRACK !

If u cannot help go away. There is a lot of buggs in mp and it certainly is not my fault.

Damn junior… you continue going down that line. The world has more then 6000000000 people and not all of them are less smarter then you… got it ? Not yet ? It is NOT always the others fault ! Please grow up and do share some blame with us…you are welcome

CM MP has a few minor bugs… as the crew one (but don’t read the rest of the board, as it is bed for your young and already phobic mind)… (now read well) but nothing as your are describing… got it now ?

In a last information give away spirit:

    - make sure your win98 1st ed is updated

    - update your GF2 graphic card drivers

    - make sure your are not behind a strong firewall

    - make sure your OpenGL settings are good

    - make sure all MRP are off, isolate the problem, don't work with more then one variable

    - and at last but not least, next time do share some blame with us common mortals

    See you around junior

CM is very different from these games regarding TCPIP... Unlike the others, CM sends a file back and forward in the NET.

    windows 98 1st ed

    ...

    with 23.12 drivers

Win98 1st ed is no problem IF you applied the 40+ MB of upgrades provided by Micro$oft...

This has nothing to do with your CM MP problem, but there are new drivers available for your GF2mx.

Hahaha... So many memory resident programs and allot of them are TCPIP active, that I'm amazed you can think there is a problem with CM MP that have been overlooked by all of us in the last 2 years :D

Nice line of thinking, its always the others fault ;)

In my system specs, CM MP is so bullet prove that I can even play it and play 2 other CM games at same time... think on that.

Zonealarm --> Phobia (total system resource waist)

Antivirus --> Phobia (total system resource waist)

    MSN --> Total waist

MB Monitor --> Not needed and not precise

ICQ --> It should give you no trouble if properly setup

Winamp --> Dangerous... why do you need it always on ?

natscapre --> Don't know what it is and don't want to know it tongue.gif

This is obviously my very own personal opinion

  11. What Silvio Manuel states has only to do with LOS and buildings and not with MOVING targets (specially fast moving) LOS and blocking structures (buildings and hills)...

I’m not sure what he is describing, but I think it is a known deficiency….

You can position an AFV in such a position behind the building, that it will see right through it. Just put it very, very near the building wall and look for the spot, but be warned that it is considered cheating… if it is any other strange thing, once again, the file would be welcome.

As for what is stated in the manual, think about it like this… You can read and understand whatever you want, as stated in my previous post; player’s imagination does the job… after all this is a game ;)

I can do a number of tests where a C charge will go by 2 walls…

To the more “imaginative” ones, that C charge just found out 2 open windows exactly in the same trajectory… but when I do this test with a hill instead of a building….then the number of imaginative ones goes down ;)

There is some information wrong or missing here.... if you wish send me the file (se my profile)

    ...

One other anomoly happened in yet another scenario. I had a HT besides a building, it moved up to fire and then reversed back behind the building. My esteemed opponents Sherman fired a round which went right through the building, on a diagonal, and hit the HT. Were the windows of the building open???

CM apparently violates one fundamental law of the Einstein physics… nothing is instantaneous!

Or yet, for those of you even more fanatical… CM forgets that in order to make a gun projectile to travel at the current speed of a computer calculation, the projectile would almost not have no mass and be almost only energy. :D

When the calculation was done the HT was within LOS and the shot “hit” the HT in the computer’s “mind”…

Will try to concretize... In CM, the projectile identity, contrary to what happens in real live, doesn’t exist (after knowing this don’t put your live to an end tongue.gif ), In its place there is a mathematical result that virtually INSTANTANEOUSLY determines the “score” …

Don’t get me wrong, those Physical/Mathematical calculations aren’t simple or random, a lot went into them and they are the pride and backbone of CM (If you dare, try ask Charles for the formulas  ).

When the video representation showed up (AFTER the calculations) for your delight the HT was already behind the house and you sow the projectile going right through the building.

Some of us with more imaginative minds, say it went by 2 windows… ;) Others with an even more imaginative mind say that this is how the war will be in the year 3000 if fought with 1945 vehicles :D

Combine the best features of a W(+) easy-eight suspension Sherman with either the 17lb gun or the 90mm, and you have maybe not the worlds best tank, but one that certainly could have stood up to the German Panther and Tiger on something approching an equal footing.

As said here earlier, the Sherman is too high... no crew likes to be a good target, even if it has the best armor of the world.

Any one that had/has the opportunity to stand aside a T-34 knows very well what I'm talking about.... that low fat b#%tard sure looks mean ;)

Even a mediocre machine, when well known and employed by its crew has a very good chance of successes... higher then the other way around any way, a good machine on incompetent hands.

The initial US "Sherman" doctrine (lying to tankers) implied at very least in a large bill at late 44 early 45, crew shortage and general M4 discredit.

Of course on those days, the lessons of the Israeli Arab 73 conflict were not around, so a GI was glad just because he didn’t had to walk, a fast reschedule to M4 crew member was at 1st sight more then welcome.

Between it and actually placing, on top of a M4 chassis, a well-planed 90mm gunned enclosed turret there is a big distance ;)

Pretty damn good for a firing slit view?

    ...

There is no relative spotting in CM... Wish means, the Ai (or yours for all that matters) buttoned tank knows about every unit it has in its LOS that has been spotted by any other unit on its side. On top of that, regarding infantry targets, for the TacAi the 1st target priority is AT teams, then crews (can be AT teams) and only after that infantry squads (or not).

After around 2 years of CM playing, I’ve played only three or four times against AI… Just there isn’t any point on doing it, there is no difficulty and also there are many human adversaries out there (PBEM/TCPIP)…

Every each one of them has his own special way of playing and takeing advantage of the game limitations… so entertainment is assured ;)

    Just remember one final thing…

Knowing the TacAI (not Ai) “mind” is a must for any pbem/tcpip success, don’t fight and complain about the TacAI, just use it to your own advantage ;)

If you look at the stats about Ap and Tungsten ammo, you may see mostly up to 500m a penetration boost up to 50%..but not 100% like for the US ammo in the game.

    ...

Without knowing the alloys composition it is almost impossible to know the answer to this... To many presumptions (would) have to be (made) done.

    Sources that can be dubious:

1- Test data... every one conducted tests in different conditions by that time (40's/ 50's)

2 - Calculation using weight, speed that "imagine" a composition/structure of the flying projectile…

    We need:

    US/German AP alloy composition

    US/German Wolfram alloy composition

-Together with a good material analysis a good mathematical/physical model is also needed

I'm peaty much sure CM uses the 2nd (at least it uses mechanical physics equations), as for the 1st... Maybe it's too hard to get the data.

Thanks... In my view, the above says it all.

    M3 -> M5 evolution, was a necessity (Engine shortage)

    M3 -> M3A3 Improved version

    M5 -> M5A1 Bring those improvements (A3) to the M5

Short conclusion related with the game regarding data found so far...

The "slow ROF" negative factor used in game has strong indications to be a bit “out of line”...

    Gunnergoz,

Yep, you are right, apparently there are no M3A3 in US…
