  1. To follow on my previous post: I tried bumping my card's '3D Turbo Gauge' back up to 5, and I had crashing probs. Next, I'll try enabling fog, and keeping the Gauge set to 4..... I was able to finish my 1st CM scenario, the house-to-house fighting one, to an eventual draw. That was fun.

  3. new, encouraging report: I found the properties panel for my vidcard, a v770 tnt2, and was able to disable 'fog tables' and to take down the '3D Turbo Gauge" down a notch from 5 to 4. Since you mentioned fog tables as a suspected problem, I thought I'd try this, and, so far, so good. Now I'm going to bump up the 'Gauge' to 5, but leave fog tables off..... I'll let you know what I find. BTW, I noticed no changes in CM's appearance. The only difference I noticed is that it's not crashing anymore.

  5. Fang, I'd be interested in that sound card report. Of course, I don't have the same sound card .... I suspect the prob might be in the drivers for my vid card... I have a separate, bootable Win2000 partition, and I installed it there. Of course I get only software-based graphics, and no hardware acceleration. That's why I wanted to try it. I was able to play 7 turns of a Quick Battle without crashing; it never crashed, actually. I just quit to come back to Win98 and my network connection. So now I'm wondering if I want to futz with my vid card drivers.... I wish there were a way to force CM to just play in Software mode, because I find the graphics just fine in that mode.
  6. I have also been locking up, though, and I have a different setup: AMD k7 600 128MB RAM oodles of HD space Diamond V770 TNT2 Ultra 32MB Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value sound card. I've got the latest drivers for the V770, I think, and I also downloaded, but haven't yet installed, the nVidia ref drivers for this card. Just didn't want to mess with it unless I had to. What else do you think we should investigate? I am only getting about one turn, when I'm lucky, before CM locks up and forces me to CTRL-ALT-DEL.
