  1. Well, they seem to have taken most of their russian data from battlefield.ru:

    http://www.battlefield.ru/index.php?option=com_content&task=category&sectionid=6&id=33&Itemid=49

This lists the Certified Penetration for the F-34 @ 1000m to be 68mm with good quality ammo -- the same gun in ToW is also listed with 68mm.

Of course, battlefield.ru also states that "Also, it is important to understand that realistic penetration values in 1941-1943 was reduced significantly due to low quality ammo."

Did you adjust for impact angle? You must have, otherwise the figures are way too high. Germans usually tested penetration at 30 degree angle - Russians generally tested at right angles. ToW doesn't state which, so we'll assume right angles for ToW values (1C are russian, after all).

    PzGr 39

    Distance -- RealWorld -- ToW

    500 -- 128 -- 83

    1000 -- 115 -- 69

    2000 -- 92 -- 48

    PzGr 40

    Distance -- RealWorld -- ToW

    500 -- 154 -- 95

    1000 -- 133 -- 74

    2000 -- 98 -- 45

So if your figures are correct, and the ToW figures are comparable (measuring steel penetration and right angles), then ToW data is, well, crap.

  3. Is this for real?

Comparison of russian T34/43 76mm tank gun, firing APCR, and a german PzIVH 75mm tank gun, also firing APCR:

    T34/43 APCR:

    Initial velocity: 950 m/s

    Grouping: 2.06

    Penetration at 1000m: 92mm

    PzIVH APCR:

    Initial velocity: 990 m/s

    Grouping: 2.06

    Penetration at 1000m: 74mm

Are you kidding me? AFAIK russian ammo was of significantly lower quality than german ammo, not the other way around!

Oh wait. It's a russian developer.

Oh yes. Very much so. In fact, my tank had an attack order on them, and was driving towards them to get a firing solution. Once it got a LOF, though, the driver's AS (Actual Stupidity) kicked in.
  5. (All of these occured playing German campaign on Veteran)

When faced with enemy tanks at close range (200m) straight ahead, the driver (skill 97) decides that the correct thing to do is to turn the tank 180 degrees around, thus insuring that the gunner can't aim and that the enemy tanks can fire at the weakest spots.

When the 37mm KwK HE ammo is ineffective against the gun shield of a 75mm howitzer, the correct thing to do (according to the skill 60 gunner) is to fire another 40 rounds HE, just in case the first 10 were somehow defective.

When you and your three mates are the only friendlies left on the battlefield, and the enemy tanks are rolling around squishing your pals, the correct thing to do is... nothing. (Surrender? Run away? Nooo... not THIS AI.)

If you're a qualified tank gunner sitting in the loaders seat of a tank, and the guy in the gunners seat don't know anything about a tank gun, the correct thing is to sit still and die. Unless of course, the battallion commander comes along and tells you to switch places. Because thats how stupid you are.

  6. I am sure y'all want to know what's coming, but if you haven't been following the gossip, then go and take a look on the Forums and you will find more information. However, before you reach for the change of underwear, a reminder that this is a re-release not a new release, and is based on Close Combat III, the version that delivered requisition points, soldier history, superb Scenario creation, (yes yes, and a linear Campaign System). But, there are additions and improvements which we believe delivers compelling game play. For example, you will have to pay more attention to your use of Command Teams!
    It's a CC3 mod.

In reality, people wouldn't take cover inside a dinky little house made of plywood like that... =)

To contrast that example with one from the other end, have a look at the Reichstag durning WWII, who shook off 20cm artillery shells. Now *thats* what you want to take cover inside!

  8. Swedish Army MOUT infantry units uses pretty much exclusively 7.62mm small arms weapons, Carl-Gustav recoilless launchers and AT-4's. Standard procedures include firing 84mm HEAT aiming below windows to hit the radiator, which will then bounce around nicely in the room inside, and sweeping floors with 7.62 MMG fire straight thru the building interior walls.

5.56 was deemed way to weak for MOUT.

  9. Also, it should be noted that light rounds (as in, not much weight) are more easily deflected by small branches and other foliage. Thus, while hiding directly behind a bush won't help vs 5.56, trying to shoot through foliage a few meters away at a distant target (100m+) will impact hit chances. You might not hit a branch, but then, if you do, it's a guaranteed miss.

Only on European newsstands. In America, you'd have to pay a serious premium to see the handsome, blue-eyed Youthful Foreign Faggot propositioned by the Crone.

That's because you goddamn Europeans have the Economic sense of a fecking house pet. Here in America, we understand the 'Economic Pornography Factor'. This is the 'multiplier of effect and expense' that goes hand in hand with how sick, disturbing and wrong the image is.

Simply put, if the Image/movie/act involved is disgusting enough to turn the stomach of any normal pervert, then the people who need this sort of thing to 'get off' will be willing to pay any money for it, because it's not something they will ever encounter in their day to day round of perversion.

If the only way you can reach orgasm is by watching a Twenty-Something Belgian Homosexual be hideously groped and sexually and emotionally scarred by a toothless Hag in her underwear, then the chances are that you're willing to spend something on the order of the high 5 figures in order to arrive at the sort of weekend that most people without a dependency on extremely unnatural acts take for granted.
