  1. Hey, bsoplinger, why don't you check with MadMatt about putting it up on CHMQ? The Mac versions of the MDMPs are already there.

Great work, by the way. I look forward to not having Mod Envy thanks to your efforts! wink.gif

  2. If you don't have at least 16 megs on your video card, they apparently won't show up. They don't show up on my iMac DV SE. I had some correspondence with Aikidorat about it, and it seems likely you're running into a video card problem.

  3. I gotta say something here. The fact is, the Tac AI is the same for both players (human and computer). My Shermans frequently pop smoke and retreat when they detect a threat, but sometimes they don't. And when I play against the computer, it also is not predictable.

The point has been made before: Charles says the game doesn't cheat. If you play CM often and long enough, you'll find that most of the events that elicit comments of the sort, "The computer must have cheated, because...," can and do occur for both sides.

If you really think you have proof that the computer cheats or has an undue advantage of some sort, save the relvant files and send them to Charles. Otherwise, frankly, it sounds like sour grapes.

  4. I agree that you're stuck with whatever video card comes with the G4 Cube (right now, an ATI 16 meg card, IIRC). But it's a hell of a machine anyway (i.e., it will run CM very well wink.gif ). Otherwise you're gonna have to pay for a G4 Tower, and get less bang for the buck.

  5. Well, Captain Mike, I don't have a solution, but I do have an iMac DV SE, running OS 9.0.4, and everything works fine. Haven't had to screw around with the ATI drivers at all. So, I'm not sure exactly why you might be having the problem, but it isn't universal. May be something peculiar to your specific extensions/control panels.

  6. I have to second what Todd (aka ColOHGamer) said. My game with him has given me a new appreciation for the talents of crack zook teams. I've killed 8 out of his 10 King Tigers, and my zook teams account for half of those kills. Actually, one of the kills was by a regular zook team, and not in the woods, but from the top of a building. It's also dangerous to bring tanks into villages without infantry, isn't it, Todd? wink.gif

  7. I'm not surprised that they bolted. I don't think too many infantry would be willing to sit next to a tank that was still firing, even if it were immobilized. And in the game itself, a functional tank (i.e., even if immobilized) is transparent. In other words, it doesn't provide cover or concealment for LOS. So, to your troops, there wasn't any cover or concealment being provided by the tank. They bolted, and unfortunately went the wrong way.

  8. The modelling of building damage is abstracted. The assumption is not that the entire building is obliterated, but that it crumbles gradually. The rubble left behind may include walls, and does obstract LOS at least partially. Remember, what you see in the graphics is just an abstraction.

  9. I have a crack zook team in a scenario I'm playing that already has two King Tigers to its credit, and may pick up one more soon.

In the same scenario, another veteran zook team took out another King Tiger. If they're positioned well, and the armor wanders too close, zook teams are worth their weight in gold.

  10. A crack quality zook or schreck team can be a very dangerous weapon. I'm playing a scenario right now in which I have one crack zook that has already killed two King Tigers, and a veteran zook that has taken out another. They are particularly nasty when placed in hiding on the top floor of a building, or are placed in other good cover in ambush.

  11. Well, I hate to sound like a grouch, but this topic has been discussed extensively before. BTS has presented pretty cogent reasons for the ability of units to discern characteristics such as whether an AFV is immobilized or the quality of opposing troops. I'd suggest you use the mighty "search" tool to avoid being doomed to repeat history. wink.gif
