  1. Rolled up all parameters, getting ready for first battle on 22 Jjune 1941

So my Battle Group (my onw men) are the Motorized Inf. Co, a Panzer IIc, a Panzer IIIG and a PZ IVE, right?

To these units I add the task force which will be generated each time by the discard-QB, and I will then try to buy as much as possible with my rolled points in the real battle.

    Got it right?

Then to my Battle Group I might have additional units for which I'll keep record as per the original Battle Group?!

I hope I got all rigth.

Wish me luck: Axis Assault is my first battle

  2. I had a 51%-49% Draw as Allied and 56%-44% Minor Victory as Axis.

The scenario is IMHO well balanced (see my scores) if played correctly so I'd like to hear especially from those who have lost/won with 10-20% vs 80~90%.

The Russian side seems to perform better with a wait and see attitude and carefully using mortars and arty profiting from those occasional spots in the first phase of the battle. Early exposure would be detrimental.

Axis has to maneuver in order to strike simultaneously and advance as much as possible under cover.

So far nothing new. As Axis I decided to ensure my left and central areas which I have been able to capture and hold after the first 15-18 minutes. Russian reserves from that side never made to get into action. Stopped and or KOed on the spot. My right flank which I planned to attack from teh front and from the left after having assured the central area encountered the regular SNAFUs. 5 tanks lost in a matter of minutes (3 or 4) from the T34 and combined ant well placed tank guns.

That pretty much halted the final phase of the plan and I regrouped. (Axis 56%- Allied 44%)

As Allied nothing much to report as action: I dug, I waited, I fought. my right flank (as Russian) contented one flag and maintained the control of the leftmost one. My T34 was able to eliminate the Fascists tanks in the area while troops kept on their toes the Germans finally repelling all their effort to even get close.

The left flank suffered the most enduring the heavier attack: my German opponent concentrated most fo his armor on the central (flag contended, changed hand few times, then finally in German control) and the right (for him) flank. My green units there held valiantly and the flag remaiend contented. Both battles lasted till turn 29 (I believe  )

  3. I have just discovered and read the thread (not in its entirey though), got the PDF version of the rules (vs 1.6) (is Excell striclty necessary? I might get a copy from work)

I have seen that there is a Player Guide in the cooking and that Rulse vs 2.0 are almost ready to be released.

All this seems GRANDIOSE!! and I am eager to give it a try (knowing already that I'll be hooked!)

Any hint or advice in order to kick it off?

Please, also reply via email: seahawk-vfa201@wanadoo.fr

Thanks a lot: it should be part of CMBB!!!!

as a total noob' I often lost some units through not being able to find them.

Well, if you click + and - you will jump back and forward to all you units. I can't see how one can possibly *lose* a unit in CM.

Oh ya: you said you were a noob ;)

  5. One graphical improvement I'd like to see is opaque rendering o fspotted units.

As it is now it is either seen (100 visible sprite) or spotted and no more LOS (marker).

Marker is fine as a remonder but would be nice to have the visible unit more and more detailed (conversely less and less) with better/worst LOS.

For example, at night and in the snow sure you may get a LOS to a unit but in reality it would be just barely visible. In the game instead the sprite is perfect even if in the game the unit is only able to see some sort of

a shadow somewhere over there ;)

Exactly: you might know you missed it (no rewarding BANG and metal screaming sound) but where? left, right, high, low? The second shot does not have higher chances than the first as the amount of information is practically the same. The SA (situation Awareness) is still below your ankles.

If the target or shooter is moving however, keeping track of the target even through only visual obstacles can be hard.[/QB]

This is correct if you also could identify which part of the tak you have spotted: the front or the back. So you aim to the left (ideally getting into the middle of the tank) or to the right? - and risk to hit sh!t again (sorry guys, must be some of those moments)

Imagine the situation: "JEez, I think I spotted a tank there - WHERE, WHERE!!?!??! There sh!t (recurring item it seems). Fire , Fire, Fire there."

Ops missed. Try a bit left: FIRE FIRE. definitely somethign is there.

OOOpps missed again. SH!T aim to the right then FIRE FIRE FIRE.

    ARRGGGGHH: we hit SH!T

    FIIIIREEEEEE.....

In those conditions I agree though that missing 4 in a row is truly bad luck but I would not be surprised at all if it was just 3!

And if in your games (I played thousands) it happens once in a while again I would not be that surprised (in extremely bad visibility).

Last comment on LOS and having a tank silhouette on the map. No one ever noticed cases where a still tank fires and WOW it pops into view, few secs later turns into a target. then Fires again and *POP*, visible again, lasts few secs then marker again.

Now how do you explain this *rather common* behavior? LOS might change during the second and even if your tank has a RED aiming line to a target that does not means it has a LOS: it migh have just lost it (it happens and I verified and saw this many times).

From what I see LOS calculation has many factor into play. (including the famous sh!t)

    ;)

  8. as xerxes pointed out LOS is not a binary variable: "either you have it or you have it not". In between there are all possible variation hence you might have a LOS on the tank - and see it perfectly on the map with your eyes naked - but the quality of the LOS could be damned close to the extreme "have-it-not" threshold.

BTW: yoy would see it perfectly on the map with your eyes even if dressed: no need to test it while naked! tongue.gif

When CM will introduce bmp for different level of visibility I bet with a very DARK LOS even the player on the map (either naked or dressed) will see the sh!t of before and ask himself: who the heck - or what - my unit is targerting: I can only see sh!t there..

Second: a veteran unit (or a crack) are not there in order to do miracles: they *react* to situation faster. That is, in a situation where you see sh!t they get to sh!t much faster than a regular unit. They still get sh!t though: only faster (maybe slightly better sh!t but not that much better)

Well, have been talking about ex-edible stuff for too long. Have to run now: the sh!t hit the fan!

    :D

Oh not at all: I got CMBO the month they released it. At beginning I did not even had any MODS: very few available.

Now my CMBO is maxed out in resolution and things look crispy and beautiful up close.

I am bit disappointed I can't count the leaves on tree branches anymore!

#1 view is such a deception.

Is high-res in CMBB that more memory eater than a maxed out (totally maxed out) CMBO?

  10. I have a similar behavior with the fog but I manage to get better resolution and the high quality smoke: transparent and very good looking: quit CMBB and restart when the blocky smoke appears.

If afresh I can see the high quality smoke and after a while it reverts to low quality on the same view.

Wonder if it would look better on a Titanium G4 512 MB 667MHz. Any experience?
