1. Congrats! Nothing like the thrill of victory, is there? Now move along and try a tougher one! Shooter
2. Rex, I had a similar problem immediately after adding another stick of 128MB RAM to my machine. Removing it and bringing my total RAM back to 128MB did the trick. Thought the RAM was faulty and returned it to the store for another stick. Same problem. Newest drivers, etc. of course. Other games, etc. worked fine with the 256MB load of RAM. CM didn't. hmmm.
3. I'm curious, how much RAM does the problem computer have? I was having a great deal of problems with CM after upgrading to 256MB from 128MB.
4. I've been successfully playing CM with my AGP Prophet II MX card (32MB)in D3D mode for several months since my old 12MB Voodoo 2 card (which is installed in a spare PCI slot for legacy games)proved not up to the task of running some of the hi-res mods available out there. Last week, after installing another stick of 128MB RAM to my system, I found I can no longer play the game in D3D mode! When setting up the game, I get all kinds of choices for Voodoo 2 cards but, when I cycle through to the D3D settings, the machine locks when I make that choice. Hard lock. Rebootville. Anyone else experience this? The memory's good (everything else works fine), both cards are detected and are in harmony. NO conflicts anywhere. Latest drivers for all graphics cards as well as my Xgamer sound card. I'll have to play in Voodoo2 mode for now, but I'd love to find out how to return to those hi-res textures and extra video memory! Any help appreciated. Wild theories also. Shooter
5.
quote:
Originally posted by Hilhil45: I was wondering how easy is it to make senarios and install them. Is it like red alert?

It's real easy to install new scenarios. Just put them in the scenarios folder (scen) in the CMBO directory. Making them, on the other hand, can be simple and hard at the same time. Concentrate your time on making a good map and balancing your forces. Look at the efforts of others before you start to get an idea of what works and what doesn't. I've created two scenarios so far and they took a lot more work than I had imagined. Also, don't forget to beta test your completed scenarios. There are plenty of folks on this board that will accommodate. Enjoy! Shooter
6. Great site Ed! Your efforts are greatly appreciated! I've printed some already and plan on using them extensively! shtr
7. I'd really like to try making my own mods for some of the armor in CM. Are there any websites out there that explain how to do it? I use Photoshop in my work and am fairly artistic, I just need a little advice and help on getting started. Thanks in advance, dt
8. Who knew? You didn't exactly explain yourself in the earlier, now locked, posting. Personally, I read this board for postings about the game, not about problems getting Napster and its ilk to work. Being snotty about it after BTS locks your off-topic post off THEIR board won't earn you sympathy or help in the future.
9. Sorry I didn't explain this better...I meant, when I load up the turn from the game's PBEM file selection menu, the screen goes dark (like it's getting ready to start), the hard drive light flickers once, then nothing else happens. When I put the same PBEM file in my desktop at home, it works. I'll try waiting longer to see if it finally starts up (I've waited up to 5 minutes so far), but I was wondering whether the PBEM files have some sort of coding particular to the machine that originally started the game.
10. Personally, I've never been willing to waste the time or the ammo to eliminate prisoners. March 'em to the rear and let the Provost Guard handle things.
11. I'm in the midst of a pretty good PBEM game and wondered why some of the turns refuse to work on my laptop. They always work on the machine at home (it's the one I began the game with)but has, within the last several turns, refused to work on the laptop. Any ideas, anyone else have this problem and find a solution? thx in advance, Shooter
12. What sort of terrain/visibility are you fighting in? Are you able to bypass it entirely or does it need to be taken? Armor, bazookas, flamethrowers and rifle grenades are my preferred weapons against pillboxes. If you don't have access to anything like this and REALLY need to take that position, try rushing it with two other squads laying down covering fire. Depending upon the quality of the troops inside, they may break for it and abandon the position entirely. Luck happens.
13. From the looks of it, you've got two options: 1. Bring the guns in as reinforcements with the reinforcement spot being where you want the guns to go.... or 2. Set the guns where you want them at the beginning of the game and lock them into position during setup. Depending upon what effect you're going for, you might also want to tinker with the ammo loads and the morale condition of the gunners to simulate their 'just arrived' status. Sounds like you're gonna have to play through it several times to get it right, IMHO. The TacAI can be finicky about initial setups, etc. I've found that playing with the position of the flags will also cause the AI to behave differently. Try moving the flags further from the AT guns, it might make the AI move them before unloading. Tinker with the setups, when you get it just right, it'll be worth it.
14. Blue Macs: True, scorched earth tactics were indeed used to deny territory, etc. I don't know of any battles where fire was used as a defensive feature though, do you? Sounds like something I'd love to read about/build a scenario of in the future. Imperator: Hehe, yeah, I hope none of my opponents read your reply! I'd have to think a bit to figure out a way to beat that one....other than demanding to play with 'rain' set as the weather conditions!
15. I had just this problem in a scenario I made last week. I was counting on the arrival of an M-10 tank destroyer to save the day for the American forces pinned down by superior German armor. Problem was, it wouldn't cross that bridge! After some playtesting (thanks Ron!)and head-scratching, I finally figured out why they wouldn't cross the bridge....it was made of wood! My guess was that the TacAI saw this flimsy wooden bridge and refused to move a 33 ton tank across it. When I changed the wooden bridge to a stone bridge, the TD merrily crossed and layed into the Germans as planned. Smart AI, huh?
16. Maybe it's a garage and they're getting their oil changed? Jiffy Lube on the Western Front.
17. Just a tad gamey for me. It will make me pray my opponents aren't pyros!
18. PvK: Did you consider that your shot did NOT have a flat trajectory after it left the gun? From your pictures, it seems to me that your shot could have arced over the bridge surface and still hit the target. At that range, I would think your shell would have to drop to some degree due to gravity. Maybe the gunner is using a little Kentucky windage to adjust for it. If so, I'm really impressed with the game's AI! dt
19. Does anyone know the identity of the artist? I don't see any mention of him/her in the credits and, from what I can tell, isn't signed by the artist. Kinda resembles the technique and subject matter of Don Stivers though.
20. >>If you are hit and you lose your gun then you are under fire from enemy AT weapons. Stopping after you have lost your main weapon while in line of fire is the LAST thing they should do.<< Agreed. But a green crew would do just that. Deer in headlights time! Maybe some sort of randomized reaction would be called for to take in account for the experience of the crew and the degree of severity of the hit in question....just a thought.
21. Acid-free stock would be nice. Got too many posters that haven't been able to stand the test of time (and sunlight).
22. Oh well, I thought I had solved it for you! Next best guess would be there's some gaps in the cement holding those bricks together. [This message has been edited by Shooter (edited 07-01-2000).]
23. Love the line about a 'mad woman's poop'! That's not too far from reality. Has anyone else seen their rocket rounds hit outside the battle area? I've seen smoke and fire from their impacts WAAAAAAY off in the distance. Great game. Never the same problem to solve...
24. If this happens, count me in for one, at least!
