  1. Since the last patch tanks are acting much better. One thing stil bugs me though. My tank is hunting forward when it stops to engage a target to the rear. No problem there but as soon as the target is destroyed my tank continues hunting forward with the gun still over the back deck. I really wish they'd wait to get the gun pointing somewhat forward before continuing.

    I'm sure my other gripe has been discussed before but I'm too lazy to search now. I was sneaking a platoon in a group and the mortar and MG kept getting ahead. I realize they can't sneak but why can't they move a little slower with everybody else? Using the pause command every turn can get a little tedious.

    What do you think?

    To be fair half of them where 7.62x39 and weren't even breaking the hide. My 7.62 NATO could break the hide but couldn't break the bones without at least two shots in the same place. Most of the rounds were stuck in the paws or bounced of the head. A few busted through the chest and did the job about 10 feet short of us. I shoot a .375H&H now for everything. With a muzzle break the kick isn't too bad at all. Actually less than most 300 mags I've shot.

  4. Alot of good suggestions. I'd recommend a 30-'06 at least. Contrary to what Bullethead says a .30 cal is enough in the lower 48 but in Alaska in Canada it can be as useless as a BB gun. I never thought so until the day it took almost 60 .30 cal rounds to stop a grizzly. I know better now. The one thing I always look for is a control feed bolt. It grabs the round out of the magazine and holds it instead of just pushing the round in loose. It really sucks when you drop a round or get a double feed. Make sure you get a rifle with iron sights too. Scopes are nice but don't always work as planned. Iron sights almost always work.

    If you can afford a non-Japanese Weatherby buy it. If you can find a pre '64 Winchester buy it.

    Actually the firmer the ground the better it is to pivot on. You can pivot all day long on concrete with no problem. Never try it in sand, mud or any soft ground though.

    I remember getting a new LT once at NTC. He told his driver to pivot out in the desert or else. They spent half of the day replacing the whole track on one side after busting most of the guide teeth off the track shoes. Immediately after that they pivoted the other way and spent the rest of the day replacing the other side. That's when that young PFC realized why he had been promoted twice and the 2nd LT hadn't been promoted yet.

  6. Here's the size of room you need to fire some modern AT weapons from inside a building. Just for a little perspective.

    Ceiling must be 7' high.

    Floor size must be at least 17'x24' for a TOW, 15'x12' for a Dragon, and 4' to the back wall for a LAW.

    There must be an opening at least 20 sq ft at the rear of the room for backblast.

    Muzzle clearance needs to be 9" for a TOW and 6" for a Dragon.

    Don't stand behind the back of the weapon and hold your ears. smile.gif

  7. Here's my Panther story. I'm trading shots with a Sherman at real close range. Next turn he charges me and I miss my last shot at 3 meters when a broken crew from a dead Sherman ran in front of me 50 meters away. Instantly my Panther targets the crew and ignores the Sherman which is now about 15 meters to my rear. This was an elite Panther and yet they ignored a known close range threat that could have easily killed them for a non threat. Needless to say my Panther died.

    I see this constantly where tanks will ignore another tank bouncing rounds off them to shoot at a closer infantry target that is no threat. There's no reason for a buttoned tank to fire at infantry more than 300 meters away when there are known spotted armor threats anywhere on the battlefield. If they don't spot it that's fine and realistic, but these tanks do need their targeting priorities straightened out a little. They seem to have no attention span. I'd rather have them keep watching that target that just popped smoke and not firing at anything more than a few degrees off that for the rest of the turn than slewing 90 degrees to take pot shots at long range infantry. More realistic tank AI behavior yes. Micromanagment no.

  8. A tank with only one track can't rotate on it's own. It will drive straight if the trackless side is free to roll. I've done it countless times on M551s and M2s to change the track or pads. If you can manage to get the trackless side stuck or hungup somehow then it will rotate but only towards the trackless side.

  9. Out of work ski bum, carpenter, truck driver, fisherman, painter, mechanic,.... in Alaska. Presently a no good drunk river running rat by day. By night? It doesn't get that dark now at 64°N to be condidered night. Someday I might grow up and get a real job but can't think of a reason why.

    You guys fishing in Alaska this summer are going to the wrong place. Well the Russian & Kenai Rivers are 'combat fishing' areas so maybe not. Have fun!
