As has come up before, they aren't "just grenades". The grenades in the game are just graphic conventions. Most armies by this stage of the war had a variety of hand-held ordnance to use against armored vehicles with occasional success. Mind, they didn't always work as intended and were dangerous to deliver, which is why armies preferred some kind of standoff weapon. But they were around.

I know CM2 games doesn't model specific grenade types, this is why I find it odd that Italian grenades seem so ineffective against light armor cars. I've see US, German and Russian infantry take out all types of armor vehicles including tanks using grenades.

Normally it seems, if a vehicle is disabled and continues to come under fire the crew will bail, this was not the case with the Brit armored cars.

  2. Were Italian Grenades really that bad?

I've had a couple of QB's where Italian Infantry were up against British Armored cars (Daimler Mk II & Dingo), they assault the armored cars with grenades and could not destroy one, in one battle two full squads fired 24 grenades on a single armored car yet failed to destroy it,  the after battle review showed the armored car had lost tries and radio but, the crew was fine. The only time I've seen one destroyed is if the crew bailed the armored car after becoming disabled. That's another strange thing, that 99% of the time the Brit crews of the disabled armored cars didn't bail?

  3. I just noticed that when purchasing M5A1 Light Tanks for a Quick Battle the costs changes for each one purchased and if you delete them and re-buy them, the cost is different?

    Example:

    3 M5A1 Tanks

    1. Purchased First M5A1 - cost 117, 2nd costs 120 points , third 130 points - 3 M5A1 tanks (367 points)

    2. Now if I deleted 2 M5A1's and but 2 more the first costs 132 points and If I but another it will cost 140 points. Same 3 M5A1 tanks now costs (389 points).

  4. Not sure if this is the place to post this but, these are some things I'd like to see considered for the 4.0 upgrade or future updates.

    Installer:
    - A common installer for all games i.e.(expansion, Map, Scenario, vehicle, etc, packs) and upgrades. (BF as continued to release stuff with different file formats with sometimes no installer. Maybe something like the game launcher (matrix games) where you input your key and the launcher installs all modules/updates in the right order.

    Quick Battles:

    - Give us the same options for Quick Battles as in the scenario editor such as reinforcements, ability to reduce the number of soldiers in a squad, naming units, etc. when we select forces in Quick battles. or ability to Save a Quick Battle at start and be able to edit it with the scenario editor.
    - Ability to set your own level of points (type in number) for equipment & rarity.

    Supply:
    - The ability to buy/add extra ammo for a weapon, like a Jeep/truck/trailer with extra mortar, AT or inf gun ammo, buy an Infantry Gun then have the option to buy extra ammo (extra ammo bearers, Jeep w/ammo, truck w/ammo) for it. The current supply options don't allow you get the ammo you want/need for specific weapons like mortars, recoiless rifles, AT-rifles, inf/ATG guns etc.

    Map:
    - Add some military base type map/objects like an airfield, radio or radar site, command post, army post, supply depot, etc.
    - How about some Flavor objects likes abandoned wrecked trains,  downed/wrecked aircraft,  cars, etc

    Editor:

    - Ability to Save a Quick Battle at start and then be able to edit it with the scenario editor.
    - Supply jeep/truck/trailer with ability to add/edit ammo (infantry/crew weapon) types carried.
    - Ability to have vehicle crews start a scenario outside of their vehicle or squad weapon, like a tank crew in a building across the street from their tank.
    - Ability to add/buy a radio for a squad and/or vehicle. It's just too hard to find/remember which vehicles/squads have a radios in the editor.
    - Ability to add/buy a extra Bazooka or PanzerFaust to a squad and/or vehicle in the editor
    - Ability to select/buy standard infantry weapons for vehicle crews such a rifle, SMG or machine pistol, etc.
    - More filters like (tanks, armor cars, guns, radios, etc) to the editor to help find what you are looking for. Having to buy a battalion and then deleting 99% of things you don't want just is get a specific vehicle is well, just dumb.

    Weapons:

    - Bomb/IED for future Partisan/Commando units (CMFI, CMRT)

    Vehicles:

    - A rating for tanks/armored cars with a copula that reduces chance of commander/gunner casualties from small arms fire.
    - Some more non fighting Vehicles (B IV Demolition Carrier, LaFrance M-1 Wrecker Doge WC Series of Command Cars/Recon Cars/etc. (WC-51, WC-52,  WC-32, . . ., WC-63, Patton's command cars).
    See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_WC_series#WC51

    Game play:
    - Option, Allow battles to continue  after time runs out.
    - Neutral/third party unit (Civilian/prisoner/downed airman, etc) that you can hunt/capture/rescue/exit off map. Trigger in editor for capture/kill/rescue of unit, new mission types.

  5. Why can't Allied units be selected with a new (German Markings/paint) skin something like how White Wash is going to work in CMFB ? It seems some changes with the Editor (1. Allow Axis to buy Allied equipment without crew ,  2. Select Mod paint job for unit, 3. Buy a Axis crew).  No Mod for unit use default allied skin.

  6. It's only a couple of quotes from a single source with little context but, seems to imply that Allied Tankers wanted cupola's on their tanks. Just look at US tanks designs post WWII.  Still the number of 50-60% is lower then the losses of tank commanders we see in CMRT.

I find it funny there are tanks stats in games like Gary Grigsby's War in the Pacific, War in the East, etc, games where no one ever even sees a tank but, no one has ever seen a tank stat in any of the CM games! :)

  7. Just found this - ref Allied tank commanders in Normandy but it quotes a 60% casualty rate amongst tank commanders due to snipers and ordinary rifle and MG fire.

https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=-PXQYVjbp6MC&pg=PA276&lpg=PA276&dq=casualty+rates+of+german+tank+commanders&source=bl&ots=qpRV1qfLvc&sig=lOvh64jyE3RR40dnM5A1Vt3k91Y&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjQ4dyHs-PKAhWFkA8KHcdTBfQQ6AEIVTAJ#v=onepage&q=casualty rates of german tank commanders&f=false

Couldn't get the link to work but,I wonder how much of that is based on the early war in Russia? 50-60% is still a far cry from what we are seeing in CM2, plus US tanks (Sherman) didn't have a cupola and a lot had open roofs. All I'm saying if CM2 is going to treat all tanks the same (open hatch, open roof, and tanks with/without a cupola) the number should be toned down.

  8. It's isn't just the way some play, there's a reason why most later WWII tanks designs have a cupola (lesson learned). Most tanks were designed before these lessons of combat were learned The problem with CM2, it seems to treat all tanks the same (open hatch, open roof, and tanks with a cupola). I've never seen any data that shows 90% of tank commanders died every they opened the top hatch.

  9. I think the rate of tank commanders being killed is way, way off. The only thing that comes close are the early years on the East Front when most Russian tanks didn't have radio's, tank commanders had to stand up to wave flags or their arms to give orders to other tanks. Standing up in a T-26, T-60  was a good way to get shot when half your upper body is exposed and your waving colored flags.  Compare that to later German/Russian tanks, size of the cupola, where nothing below the nose of the tank commander is exposed when looking out the top hatch, The rate of Tank Commanders being killed needs to toned down or tanks need to have a rating to the cupola size vs. small arms fire. Patton lost a few commanders this way but, US tanks didn't have any copula's on the top hatch.

  10. I'd like to pickup your CMFI/Gustav bundle, in your support forum there are several threads that state changes to PC hardware can cause DRM/license issues. Will the following be an issue?

    1. Adding PC Memory?

    2. Add/removing USB Devices?

Besides mouse/keyboard my PC may not have the same USB devices (cell phones, MP3 player, camera, external HD, flash drives, etc from day to day.

    3. Add/remove HDMI monitors?

Changing configuration of a dual monitor setup, sometimes I run dual monitors, sometimes I don't.

What happens if there is an issue with you license/DRM system?

Can the game be installed and used on more than one PC (desktop & laptop)?
