2. Well let us say a glass of XO cognac or Armagnac with a Partagas 8-9-8 cigar...(and btw deanco, this kind of stuff is legal tongue.gif)

err these are no snacks wink.gif

Well shortbread biscuits, one of the rare positive contribution of England to world gastronomy would be ly favorite snack biggrin.gif

  3. Pawbroon, that is no arogance, that is cultural exception wink.gif !!!

How can you explain the rest of the world that a Big Mac is no match to a Jambon beurre sandwich and therefore levelling to the ground a Mc Donald restaurant (how can they call such places restaurants ? tongue.gif) is nothing more than a display of this cultural exception.

  4. I was just wondering if the release of french version of CM is not the perfect time to revive the much despised H39 support group.

To the newbies, one of the goals of this group was to help CMholics to get rid of the "I got a bigger gun than yours" syndrome.

How do you know you got this syndrome, well each time you play a QB you end up with nothing smaller than a Jumbo or a Tiger I. You are in terminal phase if you only pick up JagdTigers wink.gif

The H39 support group offers you a way to quit on big tanks by using the H39 fine piece of french mechanical genius biggrin.gif.

  5. To be crystal clear with the french version,

We have not altered the wave files, germans yell in german, poles in poles etc...

The free french voices were already in the game and are very nice (Thanks Joël).

I can state that we will not tweak the voice files in order to do a 100% french speaking CM, that would IMO destroy a great part of the immersion factor.

  6. Thanks Pawbroon

We (Magnus, all the localisation contributors and me) have been very busy these last few days trying to get every part of CM french version as good as possible.

Well as the title of the french Fionn, I will not dare to compare my knowledge of WWII with mr Fionn's or a few others on this board.

Let me say that I found with the CM community (and its french subset) a mostly mature intelligent and sensible group of persons and that's why I try to stay an active member on both boards.

  9. Well the french version of CM:BO which should be MdC:ADdO for Mission de Combat : Au Delà d'Overlord wink.gif is composed of :

    * an exe file (1.05 version) with all the coded text translated in french (as accurately as possible considering the limits in text strings length) and can be substitued to your 1.05 english version CM exe.

    * a Bmp set with reworked elements of the on screen interface

The conversion is avalaible for PC and will be very soon avalaible for Mac (as soon as the bmp are converted into mac graphics files)

It is totally compatible with the english version and you can defeat your english speaking foes and hamsters lovers in PBEM.

We did not altered the voices, nor did we implement the famous, "Vous habitez chez vos parents mademoiselle", biggrin.gif.

Feel free to email for any questions or comments regarding the localisation biggrin.gif

  10. Ciao,

Well my italian is minimal, but I wanted you to know that the french CM community had and has to suffer the same kind of un-educated sarcasms and preconceptions.

Lots of threads question the way nationality is modeled regarding the squad fighting ability SAD but TRUE wink.gif

J'espère que vous ne nous en voulez pas trop pour l'euro.

  11. Well as frenchy let me give you a few more topics

quote:
After the French surrender to the German forces what happened to the French Army, did they continue to fight as Partisans or did they stop fighting all together?

Well the french army it self did not continue the fight, fact is that Petain, at that time as the Battle of Verdun "winner" had considerable respect from the troops and 99% of the soldiers followed his orders.

Partisan activity (we call it "resistance") was not very active nor organized until 1941.

A few frenchs fled over to england, civilans and military and began to organize themselves around Général De Gaulle.

The first actions of the free french were to gain confidence of the allies and that was difficult as the allies looked at Vichy and Petain as the legitimate governement of France frown.gif and also to federate french colonies around the world (Africa, Pacific)

The first real military action was the seizure of Koufra (Tchad)from the Italians on Feb 28, 1941. The commanding officer was General Leclerc who will later lead the 2 armoured division "2ième DB" into Paris.

quote:
Did the Germans intern the remaining forces anywhere and after the success of the D-Day landing would have became public knowledge did they begin to fight again?

Well part of the 1940 peace required that the french army (or what will remain of it) would be severely downsized. In 1942 the germa invaded south of France but kept Petain at the head of a Puppet State. No state = No army. So in 1944, the only way for french military to join the fight was to enlist in the free french troops.

quote:
Where there any major 'post surrender' victories for the French Forces. I understand that the French Navy was badly mauled by the Royal Navy after they surrendered somewhere but I cannot remember the name of the place.

Well no victory for the forces under Petain's rule.

British Navy sank a great part of French Navy (which was controlled by Petain) at Mers El Kebir (which is part of the Oran Wilaya) in Algeria. The french admiral refused to join the allies or to sail to antillas in order to disarm the ships. Allies could not stand such a threat in the Mediterranean sea and therefore destriyed the fleet.

The other part of the fleet was still in Toulon (S of France) and destroyed itself in 1942 when the nazis invaded south of France.

Situation of the free french was rather complicated, they fought both in french only units and in british units (RAF or Commandos for example). Their main achievements in WWII includes the seizure of Koufra, Bir Hakeim, Liberation of Paris, Alsace liberation...

  12. Allies, and free french when possible wink.gif

Ah well perhaps that's because I am French

Do you know any country which has a national anthem calling people to arms and slaughter biggrin.gif

quote:
Aux armes citoyens, formez vos bataillons...

Well why the allies, well also by gallic nature, it is more challenging to roam the battlefield with a puny sherman than with an überpanzer (ie H39 off course smile.gif)

  13.
quote:
how is camouflage factored into the game?

Well IIRC camo has no effect on spotting within the game (but if you use with realistic scale and bases off, you will have a hard time to see them on screen wink.gif)

AFV stealthiness is a combination of size, silhouette and the use of terrain features.
