  1. Thanks, everyone, for your advice.

Shatter, you're right -- I just found out this morning that my computer doesn't have an AGP port, only PCIs. So, it looks like I'll be taking brooktrout's advice, and look into getting a GeForce4 MX card (probably the 460). I assume these cards can be found at retailers, like Best Buy and Circuit City, right?

I'll let you all know how it performs with respect to my current configuration (i.e., Voodoo 5).

    Mike

P.S. Shatter, your brother wouldn't be living in Houston, would he? If so, that's just plain eerie. ;)

  2. Got CMBB, and noticed for the larger maps with lots of features, my frame update rate is very slow when panning the camera view. My current system specs are:

Compaq Presario 7599 (Pentium III) 700MHz

    w/ 256KB full speed L2 cache and 128MB 100MHz SyncDRAM

    Voodoo 5500 PCI card

    Window 98

I keep hearing the GEForce TI 4200 is the way to go. Is this an appropriate card for my system? I like to play with all the neat stuff (e.g., fog, doodads, extreme foilage, etc. turned on) Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mike

  3. Now we're talking!

Allowing the community to suggest names for inclusion into CM1 was one of things that got me interested in the game, even though it's trivial when compared to the game as a whole, but I thought it was a neat idea nevertheless. One of the first things I do is to check if my name has been selected for any of my units in that particular battle.

Plus, I'm sure a good amount of Russian, German, Finnish, etc. names can be collected from this board, even if it's not necessarily names of relatives.

  4. Like most people here, I'm getting geared up for CM2.

Those of you who have been following CM for a while will recall one of the more interesting things, IMO, BTS did for CM1 which was allow people to send in suggested names for units (e.g., Lt. Harris, Sgt. Hauser, etc.). I was wondering if BTS is planning on doing something similar for CM2.

  5. Pacestick,

I would tend to agree with you; however, I'm pretty sure this isn't the case since there are parts of the house which are out of LOS of the HQ and these parts of the house I cannnot lay down an indirect fire line (i.e., yellow/orange line) to. That is, the targeting line disappears once I click the mouse button.

I think Sirocco is onto something here since the house seems to be the determining factor as to whether or not my mortars fire.

    Any other suggestions/comments?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  6. Ok, I tried the different suggestions above, but no luck. However, when I move the targeting line to outside the house (which is what I originally had targeted), I have no problem getting the mortars to fire.

I suppose my question now is why can't I get my mortars to fire indirectly at/inside a house which is in direct LOS of their commanding HQ. (The HQ can see part ways inot the house.)

  7. In a recent PBEM game using v1.12, I am attempting to fire my US 60 mm mortars indirectly. They are in direct C&C with a platoon HQ who has a clear LOS to their target point. My mortars are located in the open and are in good condition with ammo.

I am able to successfully place an indirect fire line from my mortars to the target point (i.e., yellow line), which is also in firing range. However, my mortars refuse to fire, but, at the end of the turn, it still shows them targeting my original point.

    The weather is snowy conditions.

    Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

    BTS,

I'd be happy to send you the file if you request it.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  8. Thanks for all your help.

I've found a little more information about my graphics card, which may help others diagnose my problem. I took this directly off the relevant Compaq specs web site:

    Integrated 2X AGP 3D graphics

    Integrated 64-bit hardware-accelerated 3D graphics

I apologise for not posting this in the Tech Support forum.

If it turns out I'm SOL, then I'd appreciate some suggestions on a graphics card (which handles fog, of course!).

    Thanks again,

    Mike

  9. Hi all,

I'm playing my first CM game with fog since purchasing a new computer, and apparently the fog is not showing up. frown.gif I know others have experienced this problem before, and I did a search, but I didn't find anything that solved my problem. So, I'd very much appreciate any help.

    Here's some system specs:

    PIII 700 MHz Compaq Presario 7599 w/ 128 Megs

I'm using the graphics card that came with the computer, which I bought just 2 months ago. So, I'm assuming my drives are relatively up to date.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

  10. I searched for an answer to this question/bug, but I couldn't find any.

I'm currently playing the AI in Paratroops on Parade, which is labeled a "huge" scenario (don't worry - no spoilers here!). I noticed that after setting approximately 20 ambushes on the first turn immediately after setup, I wan't allowed to set any more. More specifically, when attempting to place an ambush marker, only a bright red line extends from my ambushing unit (much like the one that extends from a unit trying to target an ambush marker which is out of HQ contact). Also, I verified the LOS to my desired ambush point was unobstructed with respect to the unit placing the ambush marker. I was able to repeat this several times, using a different ambush target placement sequence each time, with this occurring each time after placing approximately 20 ambush markers. Also, I found this to affect all ambush-capable units (e.g., guns, HQs, etc.), meaning that after reaching the "~20 ambush marker limit", no units could place ambush markers.

I haven't tried to duplicate this during the setup phase nor on subsequent turns.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this, and, if BTS requests, I'll be more than happy to send the file.

    Thanks,

    Mike
