  1. Well currently I’m paying to 1) have a truck rear end rebuilt 2) a lawyer in a custody fight and 3) replace the AC in another vehicle. Since all 3 of my vehicles are paid for I guess that gives you an idea that I don’t pay for things that depreciate - lightly. I routinely wait until a game falls in price. After all most games require patches so why be a post game release beta (?) tester. Zamo I’m not sure about the $140 upgrade price, but I have machine that can get on the Internet and perform Word Processing so it should make a perfectly adequate college computer for a stepdaughter in a couple years. Time will tell. I’ve not kept up with motherboards and chipsets for a last year so I’ll have to study the situation before buying anything. Plan on finding a new motherboard but using an older CPU as you suggest Zamo, but I’m not in any hurry hell its just a game after all. Afterwards I can replace the CPU with a faster one, as did with this motherboard. Fionn the resolution change helped but not enough, even at 640 X 480. Still despite the above it was my intention to support BTS and buy the game shortly after release. Wargaming is a hobby and military history is something I enjoy. Shucks I’ve worked on the Ageis class cruisers for Ingalls Shipbuilding, currently I work for the Air Force, and I might take a job working for the Coast Guard. Have fun an I’ll be in position to buy CM2 - hopefully. : ) Concerning the Gateway issue, I agree with Ol’ Blood & Guts. My first PC was a 486 Gateway. Didn’t have a problem with it. Shoot pieces of it are in my current machine (3 1/2 floppy and ISA sound card), but since then I’ve experienced nothing but poor parts, compatibility, and service on several Gateways.
  2. <<Well, to be fair, a 166 isn't being advertised as a "prime system" for CM. If I were you I'd try reducing the resolution.>> I having looked at the latest sys req lately, but you may have a point about the resolution. I spent my computer dollars on a 19 inch monitor. My resolution is set at 1154 X 768 (or something like that). Anyway I'll have to experiment. Thanks for quick reply.
  3. What I really mean is that gold demo is far much slower on my 133 mherz than beta demo - much. Yeah I have a 166 MHz Pentium w/ a 16 meg 3D Voodoo Banshee card, 32 megs of Ram and it can't handle it anymore. The beta demo wasn't any problem but the gold demo is way to slow. May add another 32 megs of ram to see if that helps. If anybody has a similar machine w/o these problems I'd like to hear from you but it looks like it will be Jagged Alliance II for birthday now.
  4. Is a 3d card that important for this game? I know having a card with more memory helps. I haven't seen any problems with my 166MMX 32 meg 16meg Voodoo Banshee card.
  5. Has anybody seen a movie called "When Trumpets Fade" (or something close to that title)? I think it was overwhelmed by the release of Saving Private Ryan. It was set in the Hurtgen (sp?)Forest. Certainly showed the ugliness of war. I was wondering what you WWII histroy vets thought of its tactics and accuracy.
  6. I wonder if BTS could give us an idea how long it will take the game to reach our twitching hands (and I'm not concerned with shipping time). If the game is done/ gold/ gone master whatever (say this is D Day) and I then order it on D +1 when does hit the mail. I remember people preordering wargames from others and then they see it on the shelf weeks before receiving their copy. I mean how many stamps can Steve and Charles lick in a single day?
  7. <<But it seems to me, if I was about to rush across an open field, and the men who were suppling me with covering fire said 'Sorry, we're out of ammo', I'd probably toss 'em a few clips.>> Rex, I wonder if we're attaching more rational thought than occured in the panic, fear and confusion of the typical battlefield. I've read that most soldiers didn't fire their weapons at all. Maybe lack of ammo wouldn't be a consideration. But I'm certainly not an expert on this subject. Just wondering.
  8. Ok Zackary that helps. I have an old save game I can test it out on.
  9. I have a question about assault guns. During the Last Defence scenario I has a Stu III immobilized by a bazooka team. Well I got the team but the Stu III was left in the open just waiting for the M18 (yikes!). So I firgure I'll target something while I can. The game SEEMED to let me target whatever I wanted, but the Stu III never shot. Later I thought maybe the gun couldn't swing enough to get to the correct position. That must have been the problem because it shot up a MG in front of it. My question is how do I know the arc an immobile assault gun can shoot within? BTW that STU III killed 2 M18 when they appeared. Talk about luck.
  10. Fionn, can a crew that has disembarked, later on reembark on the HT. The crew was listed as ok but couldn't ever get them back on board.
  11. I noticed something that seems odd when I use the TAB key. I learned to first hit 1 then hit the TAB key for a selected unit. What bothers me is after having nice view from the vehicle I like to rotate the view (or scan the horizon). When I do this I immediately get a back view of the vehicle, which isn’t very useful. If this is intended to simulate a buttoned view where you can’t scan the horizon fine, but this seems odd considering all the views available. Is this bug or am I doing something wrong? BTW I’ve put Baldurs Gate on hold for this *^%$# demo. Can’t wait for Christmas.
  12. Darstand, China being a superpower was confirmed around 2000 yrs ago by a guy named John writing in a old ignored book called Revelation. Revelation is part of an older even more ignored book called the Bible. See Rev 9:14-16 and 16:12 and please tell how many countries could field an army of 200 million soldiers (and as we saw in Korea if you can walk your soldier to China's leaders). Darstand don't mean to sound confrontational just writing in a rush - its Friday!
  13. From Biloxi, MS land of hurricanes and humidity. But on a positive side the last state to be visited by President Clinton.
  14. I haven't been watching the progress of CM lately, but I checked in and these darn AAR got me hooked again. Concerning copy protection I've always gotten weary of the game background music and wanted to play a music CD in the background. Is it practical to have both, by requiring the game CD to be in the drive when entering (and exiting if needed for full protection). During gameplay you could slip in a music CD of your choice. And yes I realize this is a minor point and maybe not popular enough to worry about. ebaker
