  1. I found the Quick Battle Generator as a desktop icon. It is also probably under Start - Program files.

I tired it and it is very easy to use. Make sure you have choices for both sides. It then will save or launch you directly into TOW.

  2. All I can say is the game is pretty good as it stands. I for sure, have gotten my monies worth.

The patch will make a good game great. Sure I would like it sooner, but I know, because of BF's track record, that they will make sure it is done right, so I am content to wait.

Have a good Christmas, all BFC staff, and 1C too. :D

  3. Yes, some of those guys border on fanatical anti-ToWers.

Most wargamers seem reaonably intelligent. :D So we generally understand someone's point the first time they make it. It may take me a couple of times though.

But after the 3rd, and 4th and 20th and 300th time, I think we get it.

IMO some of those guys may actually be generating new sales for BFC. I know I would be curious to see what all the fuss was about. So they come in here and low and behold, ToW, despite a few warts, is actually not bad. And the upcoming patch will make it better.

FFS it was only $50. I have probably 30 times that in games gathering dust. Let it go and move on.

  4. Well I'm getting my monies worth. Geez, I paid $230 to see the Flames play ( they won) so that was $80/hr. A movie with munchies costs you $15 for 90 min ffs.

So far I may have put 20 hours in ToW so $3/hr is cheap entertainment.

The more I play, the more stuff I find and say, thats' pretty good.

Is ToW perfect? Nope. Was CM perfect out of the gate? Nope.

I expect (like SH3 and SH4) ToW to get better.

  5. 1) Backup campaign.xml and texts.utf8 files in SINGLE_MISSIONS folder

    2) Copy whatever campaign battles that you want to use into the SINGLE_MISSIONS folder. Copy the

    entire battle folder.

    3) Open the campaign.xml file in whatever folder that you got the campaign battles from.

    4) Copy the <mission> ....</mission> for the folders that you moved.

    5) Paste into the SINGLE_MISSIONS campaign.xml file under the existing ones.

    6) Change the numbering of battles to the next in sequence. Or renumber to your liking.

    Save

This will now run the campaign battles in the single mission selection. However the description will be missing.

To fix this open the texts.utf8 file and copy the last section. Replace the duplicate names in the copied section with the name of the moved battles. Update the description with the correct one from the Missions - Nationality - texts.utf8 file.

  6. I don't care what copy protection BFC uses as I am buying the game anyway. (When do pre-orders start?)

It is BFC's right to protect their product in whatever manner they see fit. More sales = more$ = more releases.

I trust their judgment as developers because:

    1) They have/been are in the business for a long time.

    2) They are still in the business and give us products that give me good value for the money I spend.

    3) They know their market better than I do and it is highly likely they will not shoot themselves in the ass.

So Safedisk, Starforce, or whatever is used is ok with me. All I want is CM2 that performs well on my mid-range rig.

  7. "We stand a good chance (yes, I know it's not yet definite) of being left permanently out in the cold. BFC can make as many other revolutionary games as they like, but the effective end of the CM series due to the removal of an essential feature is distressing."

No, if PBEM is not incorporated in CM2 then some players who consider this essential will or may not buy the game.

"effective end of the CM series"??? Not bloody likely. IMO, CM2 will be the start of a new series of great wargames.

  8. Geez, how many times does Steve have to post this before it sinks in.

"Now, it MIGHT be possible to have our cake and eat it too, but the only way to ensure PBEM is to trash these game elements now before putting in another 6 months of development only to find out "whoops... PBEM isn't practical... guess we have to trash the game engine and start over again".

    The key part again.

Now, it MIGHT be possible to have our cake and eat it too

So BFC obviously will attempt to get PBEM in.

Instead of whining like little children, why don't we all wait 6 months until we get a better idea from BFC about how CM2 really will be like?
