  1. Actually, Marcus, I would venture to say that it matters much more for those Grandmasters. If you or i make a mistake playing black, we can often recover. Those guys, on other hand, cannot recover as easily. By default, Black begins the game behind in momentum (tempo). Any mistake increases White's advantage significantly (the opposite situation - White making a mistake - generally neutralizes the inherent advantage of playing White. Less dramatic than a Black mistake). Give a GM a tempo or 2 and the game is over. For this reason - among GMs especially - Black requires much more careful (and often subtle) play.

    IMHO.

  2. Well, i uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I reinstalled the 1.01 patch as well. Now the game will not run at all. I keep getting unhandled exceptions and page faults with combat mission.exe. I have had the game since Monday and it has performed flawlessly until now. I can't even uninstall it now because it won't let me. And, when i CAN get it to reinstall (again), it defaults to C:\Windows instead of C:\Program Files\Cmbo. Will not let me change it either ??

    Please help

  3. I have experienced my first CTD with CM. I set up a test scenario in order to test Fighter-Bombers and American 240mm arty (heee). Each time i went through the "scenario," it crashed at about the same place. Right as a 240mm shell hit the earth i got a Windows error beep and BAM - teh game locked for 5 sec or so then crashed to desktop with the following message:

DDHELP caused an invalid page fault in

    module DSOUND.DLL at 015f:beb14908.

    I have a p3-600, 128meg, Elsa Erazor X (SDR), Vortex sq2500 sound, DX 7.0a

Oh, i also continue to hear the last sound from the game when back in Windows (IOW, i am listening now to the hum of Panther and Tiger engines). Can't turn it off without a full reboot.

  4. In my experience with CM, crew experience makes the biggest difference. Mobility effectively enhances protection. Lack of mobility greatly reduces that protection (and the crews know it). Unless they are quite safe (hull down, defilade, etc), not many crews are going to stay in an immob'ed tank. Maybe that elite/heroic crew will...good luck in finding one of those smile.gif

  5. There are several "Operations" that consist of 3-9 battles (editor allows creation of operations that last up to 20 battles). Losses carry over from battle to battle. Front lines are determined. Units can be isolated. Vehicles can sometimes be recovered/repaired. Etc, etc.

So, in effect, yes - there is a "campaign" feature.

  6. The wife and I just returned from spending a few days in New Orleans. We were privileged to be able to enjoy many of the festivities surrounding the grand opening of the National D-Day Museum. I cannot begin to describe how incredible it was to rub shoulders with thousands (yes, thousands) of WWII veterans. It was truly wonderful seeing those sweet, stooped old men shed tears as thousands and thousands of people thanked them for the work they did almost 60 years ago.

It was truly an unbelievable experience. And the museum is awesome, too. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

    God bless America!

  7. Funny story about this...

Was driving down I-20 (through Atlanta). After passing through town I saw a sign on the inner median that said 'AFV lane.' Being an avid wargamer, particularly ASL, I slowed down so as to be able to catch a glimpse of some sure-to-be-seen tanks in the far left lane. Much to my chagrin, however, my brother (who does not know what AFV REALLY means smile.gif ) informed me that AFV stood for 'Alternate Fuel Vehicle.' Harumph.

    Oh well.... rolleyes.gif
