  1. After playing the demo for a bit I decided I liked the game enough to order it. While the unlock planes thing will be a pain, I appreciate being able to play the game any time I want. It beats driving 30 miles to the hobby shop once a month or so in hopes of scaring up a match.

  2. Does Campaign experience allow me to 'unlock' planes for the local game? While campaigns sound interesting I really dislike the concept of having to unlock planes to play against the AI. A lot of the fun for me in the card games is trying out the what ifs and never happened battles.

  3. Bought HOI installed it and played it for two days. The AI is incompetent and the documentation was terrible. It is essentially EU WW2. I uninstalled it on the third day. The AI complaints are usually met with "It's really designed for multiplayer" but what I wonder is where do you find 8 people who are willing to get together every night for a month to actually complete a game? So I guess if you liked EU/EU2 this game is worth getting otherwise save your money.

  4. Hull down and its attendant benefits has very little to do with weapon trajectories. Hull down is primarally a line of sight issue. The other factor is the terrain feature that is covering the hull. For instance a perfect hull down position would expose a tank only from the bottom of the maingun to the top of the mantlet. This would give minimum exposure of the vehicle and make it both harder to spot and harder to hit(a frontal shot at a Sherman turret is a much harder target than one at the entire vehicle front). In addition to line of sight benefits, the type of terrain feature you are using is important because what you are hulldown behind should provide cover as well as concealing the hull it should be something that the enemy can't simply shoot through (hedges, sand berms, wooden fences etc.) To calculate hulldown you would have to calculate the line of sight from the muzzle of the main gun to the location you are checking. If I remember correctly CM in its current incarnation doesn't do this but instead calculates from the middle of the vehcle.

If something cannot be fixed by hitting it or by swearing at it, it wasn't worth saving anyway.

  5. I prefer the Allies. I have over the years lost my infatuation with the German army and all their cool uniforms and equipment. Also I'm a bit of a contrarian so I like to take the side that most people don't want to play. I guess that means I'll end up playing the Italians in CM3 (or was it 4). Imagine the fun of taking an M13/40 up against an early Sherman.
