  1. To BTS, Your doing a fine job. Being an MCSE and a little programming under my belt yes I understand. And the dreaded luser is NEVER sasified. Although you can not say that to your customers. I do not meam to sound ungrateful or belittle your efforts. As for reference check those museums. You will find the most current info. Keep up the great work. ------------------ Allons!!
  2. Oh, Come on now! If that was a comment about CC4 you would all jump on it like flys to S@#$. It is not preference. They wore specific uniforms of specific colors and insignia. Please don't use Hollywood for reference, although I assume you mean DOD footage. If you wanrt a reference e-mail a military museum like Ft Knox or Bovington with your question. Or if you still have family members who were there that saved there uniforms, check them out. In closing I will hold BTS to the same standard as I do all game programmers. If it is dark OD wool, it is not khaki tan summer. Dont go all out on vehicles and half way on the rest. Don't take it personal it is professional.
  3. Does anyone know if the German UHU (infra-red spotlight) halftrack will be in the game since there are night time actions. ------------------ Allons!!
  4. Mark Camping is when some just sits there and lets you play alot of times they will move only short a distance. stop and wat for you. Meanwhile your expending all your resources. At first this sounds trivial and quite all right but after you experience a couple of times it is frustrating. Fionn, Did anyone use this as a tactic, Its kind of like playing dead on the battalion level. ------------------ Allons!!
  5. Howard on the zone I was Scout/Sniper, _19D40B4, my name is Pete. I just thought that if your on the offense but conduct a defense that is kind of bogus. But then again it can work because the other guy is inmpatient and wants a fight so they attack, and it is on your terms. I have been accused of camping, but in reality I was conducting recon, so when they accuse, i drop a little indirect there way to change there mind. It was kind of a dumb question, I guess its up to the players. ------------------ Allons!!
  6. How will CM deal with campers, if at all? If some one should be on the offense (ie a historical game or someone with a much superior force) will CM deduct for camping? Campers are the reason I don't play tournys. Maybe it is just one of those things you have to leave to the honor system. thanks ------------------ Allons!!
  7. Anyone want to hear another Blackhorse story on language barriers. I have a good one from International Long Range Reconnaisance Patrol School. You should always try to communicate. Besides perfection is overrated. ------------------ Allons!!
  8. The first line was just to say that I don't want to be labeled some "I think I know everything person" then no one wants to play you later. I did not mean to sound accusatory. I was just saying if your opponent is on the V.L. and hiding then the bad guys should know it until they approach it. I wish the game would come out then I could set some self designed test scenarios. Tanks for the reply Fionn. ------------------ Allons!!
  9. O.K. Steve, I was just thinking that regardless some element would have to charge up to the house, but I see your point. Thanks ------------------ Allons!!
  10. Cool, thanks for the reply. ------------------ Allons!!
  11. Fionn, First, if I'm getting on peoples nerves with my observations please say so and I will cease and dessist. I am judging this game as I do all, and that is from real life experience. I understand the limitations of coding so I really don't expect much. But I do enjoy these discussions, they show people are thinking and I like to see people think. I feel there should be no flags indicating VL's. A battlefield has only so many pieces of significant terrain and that fact doesn't change for your nationality, with exception of your overall plan. i.e. Weak frontal for a strong flanking maneuver. And just because you bypassed the three farm houses doesn't mean you control them, you have to get eyes on and feet in. I once hid three M-3 CFV's in a town overlooking a bridge in Germany during REFORGER. Two of them in barns offered at the locals offering, along with coffe and cigarettes and tales of the east and west front. Anyway, We let an Aufklare platoon and a Leopard Platoon over and through. After we felt they felt good we tagged two leopards and two luchs from the rear and ran like hell to the flank where Two M1 platoons waited in a Defense. The Luchs and the Leo that were left did as they should have and tried to mantain contact by pursuing us only to find that defense which took another luchs and the remaining Leo. Never assume. It is a very ols deception to let your enemy bypass you, the trick is not wait there in hiding to long or too short. Happy Gamimng! Oh and Fionn, Please look out your window there is a world out there. It seems you live here in this chat room. Just joking!! Would like to know where you do most of your historical research? ------------------ Allons!!
  12. Why is RT so bad? Can't handle the pressure. RT is probably the only realism factor you'll get from a game. The ability to access your situation, prioritize your problems, develope courses of action for each and then implement and revise as needed. What,Patton was out there"OK, Rommel you go have a beer and a wurst its my turn." I don't think so. One of the hardest things to learn is take in info decipher it and use it in a timely and productive manner. ------------------ Allons!!
  13. BTS Why would 4 squads rush across an open area without supporting fire? First, at most a halfteam with a few grenades would gain entry under concealment of smoke, while the other squads provide security and supporting fire. I guess I'm confused. Does your test show dumb maneuvers will be dealt with accordingly or will a platoon performing the proper TTP(tactics, techniques, and procedures) will get hammered any? Thanks ahead of time, as BTS is so timely. ------------------ Allons!! [This message has been edited by BLACKHORSE_C16 (edited 11-26-99).]
  14. Fella's Fella's, Relax, it is just a GAME. It is meant to pro vide a little entertainment of the historical type. First, Spy Eye I'm with ya bud, I like CC1,2,3 and 4. They all provide me with good entertainment. Sind sie Deutch?Hell I still break out cc1 and play it on pentium 350 man watch it go!!!! As for everyone and this realism scheisse(look it up in your German dictionary)these are games. I appreciate all the data guru's but it did not make a hoot of difference to anyone on the battlefield what the tinsel strength of the steel of a tiger or penetration factor of the sherman. Fact is a weapon kills only specific target and sometimes it LUCKS out on one that it should not. All you knew was shoot it from the side or rear if possible, from the front shoot the tracks out immobilize and flank. It is a game. If it is realism you want I recommend you go down to your local recruiter, sign on the dotted line, attend basic, advanced and some leadership training a few deployments and two way gunnery training, and you too will know what realism is. The DOD has a budget for simulation and there product is not much better than this or cc2,3,4 and that data comes from the horses mouth. On tanks not being able to drive. If I had a dollar for every damn driver that made hit him, or crawl on the front deck of my brad at 30 mph because that damn intercom cable went out, I would be rich. As for crossing bridges, I must say I don't have too many probs with that in the cc series. But in real life buttoned up, it is alot of fun. You have on average 3 to 5, 1 1/2" by 3" squares pointed in static dirtections, most of you could not do it in your car let alone 3 feet higher with a 50 ton tracked vehicle that you can not see close to where your track meets the road, and half a dozen yahoo's shooting at you. Last but not least for the desk top commanders, just because you say go here and do that does not make it so, no#1. Oh, and last time I checked the battalion commander has no idea on earth what what squad two in first platoon of company B in task element 2-21 of the 36th Infantry battalion is doing. In other words the Battalion Commander does not control the direct maneuver, target aquisition, or calls for fire of a squad or platoon. That would be a flaw in all these games. As for business, look at the forum board, there are over 16,000 posts for this game, the next closest is 1001 for WDK. Whatever BTS's business strategy is now, it will have to change if this game does as well as its bulletin board. I'm not predicting good or bad, but it will change. Soooooo, everybody take a nice guy pill and play a GAME. See ya later and hope to play you unless your one of those people in the CC game rooms who cries because he lost and he feels he should not have because his STAT SHEET says otherwise. ------------------ Allons!!
  15. Hello to all, This is my first post here and would like say first that BTS seems to be onto something good here. I was steered to this demo by SS_Panzerleader. He was right, this is a great game. It took me about three games to get into it. It’s probably to late for comments and wishlist stuff but here are a few comments. These are the most fit infantryman I have ever seen and I have been hanging around infantry, cavalry, and armor for the last 17 years. It seems the “game tactic” for this game will be the 200M sprint from the deployment zone for the “best position.” After running are the marksmanship proficiency numbers dropped at all? This is one of the biggest factors in dismounted warfare. The more energy used to run takes away from the energy one will need on the objective in the next 30 to 60 minutes. I think this to be especially true for a game model at your scale. Dead grunts. Will there be any corpses left behind in a kill zone. It seems now that if a squad dies they just disappear. It would be nice to see at least one representative body to let followers on that it is not safe here. Sounds piddly but in real life the bodies tell a story for the next yahoo in the slot. Does the game engine give any allowance to an attacking force for its momentum of attack, it can be quite demoralizing to a defender. Will there be snipers? I don’t mean to sound crass when I say this. A little comment to all with this “fairness thing” in war games. If you want fairness play chess. It is not the prettiest thing to look at but it is the root of all strategy games and the all time king. Doctrinally speaking NO ONE starts a fight without a 3 to 1 advantage. All other engagements are avoided if at all possible or contact is broken with most haste in the interest of self preservation. He who chooses his battlefield and lures his enemy into it usually wins. That being said I use this for an example. I played (I think) Last Def the one with 3 m18 for reinf. I left the units in the developers start positions. Anyway I played and prayed for those 3 M18’s finally they show, and what did bone head do, forgot to give them orders befor pressing the magic button. Guess what happened, like I have to tell you, 3 smokey M18’s on wheat. HeHe. So I moved out like the scout I am and proceeded to hold off the Germans to a stale mate. The only German vehicles I killed were two HT’s, really one was abandoned. The Germans never made any farther than the woodline across from initial postion. THERE IS NO FAIR, ONLY SUPERIOR TACTICS, SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR ENEMY AND A LITTLE LUCK. Don’t take the wrong way I am not bragging, just an example. In real life that would be a success, I completed my mission. For more info on armor and tactics poke around here: http://knox-www.army.mil/armorlinks.htm Interesting links http://knox-www.army.mil/dtdd/armormag/ Check out the tactical vignettes http://knox-www.army.mil/museum/ Patton Museum (US Army Museum of Cavalry and Armor) Enjoy the info on these sites and hope to play some of you. Bye! ------------------ Allons!!
