Conventional Air Launched Cruise Missiles? Were those used for frontline CAS?Originally posted by Wildman:Yes, they did...OIF they launched Day 1 from Fairford, UK for CALCM strikes followed by JDAMs from the wings.

I think a good metric for it would be OIF1 vice OEF1 - did B-52s and B-2s loiter above Iraq for on-call CAS to Army or Marine company sized elements? Keep in mind, Syria has more effective ADA assets than Iraq did (and we had 12 years to bomb Iraq's ADA into oblivion).

BDA is a valid mission for US infantrymen.Originally posted by Battlefront.com:There is no scenario I can picture that would be any fun with the sort of volume of destruction a bomber provides.

At the risk of becoming the new Dorosh The Necroposter, I was wondering if maybe there was any new info in regards to:
How will CMSF handle infantry on the individual, fire team and squad levels? I'm thinking in a MOUT context here as well - will we be seeing infantrymen stacking outside the door, clearing rooms properly... -
We still use Mk117s? Wow...

God that was a terrible book.Originally posted by John Kettler:Ivan Drago,
There was a technothriller on this theme some years

Pictures or it didn't happen!

Yeah, I had to reformat my hard drive about a month or two ago, and I haven't reinstalled any CM games yet (or any games at all for that matter).
It's entirely possible that my less-than-functional brain is remembering things the wrong way.
Guess I'll have to install CMAK or CMBB this weekend to jog my memory again.

Yeah, I bought it at Ft Knox for about $20, figured it wasn't all that special, but just occasionally handy. It was worth a shot.

I just remembered I have a book about Middle Eastern and Asian camouflage uniforms. Steve, being the uniform guru I know he is, probably already has it or could get it if he wants it. I can scan it if it'll offer anything new or useful. It does have a section on Syria, battle and garrison uniforms, as well as pins and badges (like airborne wings).

I'm poking around, not much to see. I found their unit patch:
Don't know if these guys are commandos (Lebanon '82)
With a Milan

Actually, we dismounted too whenever we were in humvees - but maybe I'm not making myself clear. I remember setting up a couple missions with infantry in trucks or half tracks and they'd often disembark at the very beginning of the mission or if firing occurred on the map 1000m away, they'd still disembark even if not in contact.
-
I remembering having the opposite experience in CMx1 - the troops would dismount at the first sign of gunfire.
Setting up something relatively simple like a convoy ambush was an exercise in frustration.

I realize that you're mocking this, but for what its worth I'd really, really, really like to see a first person capability in the game. I realize its a totally different can of worms from a tactical wargame, but CMSF already looks far better in its alpha/pre-alpha form than most of the FPSes I play.Originally posted by Ivan Drago:So as this Iron Man commander, can we go into first person mode and command from the ground?
I'd like to lead the assault group with my SAW firing on the run as I jump up and down frantically to avoid the bullets of Syrian sniper zombies in the rooftops!
W00T!
Oh and if Battlefront could code in some sort of Titanium bullet-deflecting shield for my Iron Man commander, that would be like totally sweet!

Kind of unrelated, but what will the destroyed models look like for vehicles?
-
Are all rounds for the M256 120mm gun in service going to be modelled - i.e. MPAT, cannister?
-
Both of them look really good. The weathering especially.

Happy Christmas everyone.

Looks good. Simple and easy to understand. One thing, though - the T-72 has a 7.62mm coax, not 7.92mm
-
Yeah, I saw the pics accompanying that story and it showed the M1064 mortar system on an M113, not a Bradley. I don't know why the article insists on calling it a Bradley.
And...
Thats just about the only pic I've ever seen where the ACU actually blends into its environment.

Too bad games like this are being made that offer no tactical realism what so ever.Originally posted by Imperial Grunt:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by CBR:

Looks purty though. The music is great. But it does not even approach CM:SF as a tactical sim, not even CM.
The best blend would be CM:SF with lots of eye candy and stuff, but with an emphasis on reality. </font>

I'd like to see a 1946 module someday. I really want a game that'll give me an American T29, T30 or T34 heavy tank. 1200 were ordered before the war ended, and only five were ever built.
Airstrikes packages or single weapons?
