Guest Madmatt
Just saw that Nvidea had released to the public the 6.31 version of their Detonater 3 drivers for the Geforce and TNT cards. I have been using them on my Geforce II all week and they seem very stable. YMMV http://www.nvidia.com/products.nsf/htmlmedia/detonator3.html Madmatt ------------------ If it's in Combat Mission, it's on Combat Mission HQ! robo
Matt, but you're not running Win2K right?
Guest Madmatt
No, I am still on Win 98 SE. The download page lists versions for 95/98/ME, W2K and NT. Madmatt [This message has been edited by Madmatt (edited 10-05-2000).]
Jinkeez
I installed the drivers this evening, and they seem to work just fine... It's the first set of the Detonator 3 drivers that don't hang the game on me. Woohoo! I'm running: Athlon 700 on Epox 7KXA (KX133 chipset) Hercules/Guillemot GeForce DDR
HawkerT
Hi Jinkeez, I'm running the same setup as you just with the K7V from ASUS (same chipset). Have you been able to get win2k and CM to run without the flashing text thingy ? I know there was a post about this particulary problem a while ago where BTS said they would look in to it. No word yet though. So I'm hoping that maybe you have some insight with this problem on our specific setup . Well anyway just a thought. I want to switch to win2k but not before I can play CM troublefree. Cyrano
Jinkeez, first, thanks a bunch for posting in re: my earlier problem with these drivers (earlier dentonators). Second, things still O.K. with 6.31? I went 11 turns at Elsdorf trying to generate as much card-freezing havoc as possible and nothing so I'm optimistic. (It is AMAZING what I'm willing to do to keep CM running...NO other game has been giving me grief.) Third: Are you available for an e-mail game? I'm looking for an opponent or 2 and you seem a gracious (if, necessarily, competitive) soul. I prefer the Amis but will gladly play either side. I can usually put together one or two turns a day, although those WILL appear win or lose. Fourth: MadMatt, thanks for this update, it's much appreciated. robo
Matt, not that you said it would but these new drivers don't fix the Win2K Text problem.
Jinkeez
Hi Cyrano, It's funny you should ask me that, I was planning to post an update when I got home from work today. Unfortunately, it seems that the newer drivers have not completely resolved my lockup problems. I didn't have a whole lot of time to delve into the issue, but I have noted, very unofficially, that the lockups seem to occur on medium and larger-sized maps. I played all the way through the Wiltz scenario (small map) with no problems and figured I was fine, but later on, I started one of the scenarios (I can't remember the name, but it dealt with fighting among the hedgerows and the description recounted a German tank ace stalling an Allied advance). I locked on the third or fourth turn, during the planning phase. I will experiment further tonight to see if I can determine what's causing the problem, but I'll most likely have to step back down to the 5.22 drivers. Oh well. Lastly, I would certainly be interested in a PBEM with you, and as I have not played against any live opponents before, I really haven't developed a preference for one side or the other. Send mail to my Jinkeez@hotmail.com account and I'll give you my primary email addy. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Jinkeez
HawkerT, Actually, I should have probably mentioned that, like Madmatt, I'm still running on Win98SE, so I might not be much help to you... I'm still hoping to unlock the mysteries of the various incompatibilities and problems surrounding our notoriously unstable KX133 chipset. I had a brief thought last night, that most of the games I lock up in are running in D3D mode... I run nice and stable in Counterstrike when I'm in OpenGL mode, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. CM uses OpenGL, right?
Guest Madmatt
No, CM uses Direct 3D on the PC side and RAVE on the Mac side. Madmatt
HawkerT
Hi Jinkeez, Thanks for the info. I guess I should stick with Win98SE or WinME until BTS's newly hired hardware specialist (who said MadMatt ?) writes som magic drivers for win2k and linux . Well anyway who cares about the OS's name as long as it runs CM nice and smoth ? I guess when CM2 arrives I will be on one of them socket-A motherboards with Athlons own chipset and DDR capability. Thanks again.
