Other Means
Interesting article from The Independent about a stack of pictures found in a village close to the Somme battlefield taken of soldiers away from the front. The negatives are on glass plates that were discarded but have been found and restored by M. Gardin and M. Zanardi who live close by. Touchingly, they say; "Our motive in restoring them was not financial. It was a tribute to all the British soldiers who fought here and also to an unknown photographer.".
