Setup in PBEM and game in TCP?

When playing CMBB and CMAK, I used to play this way, which was especially useful for attack/defense situations. I'm not wanting to be able to switch between PBEM and TCP once the battle has begun, but it would be cool to have the possibility of doing the same with CMSF.
