Problems with CMBO

I've been having an irritating problem with playing CMBO. During the action phase, the computer does what my son calls 'lags.' After clicking GO, the computer clicks a lot and the picture freezes for anywhere from five to thirty seconds, then jumps ahead. Sometimes it's fine after that, but sometimes it does it again. When I play smaller scenarios, it doesn't do it often, but enough to be upsetting. Medium scenarios are almost unplayable, as it lags more often and for longer times. Large and huge scenarios are totally impossible to play.

I have an eMachines with a 733 processor, 64 RAM and a 56k modem. I would need to find the manual to look up what kind of video card I have. I downloaded and installed DirectX 8. I use fast and compatible for smoke and the lowest tree setting.

I'm pretty computer illiterate, so any help would be *greatly* appreciated.

Likely its your vid card memory or your RAM which is the problems.

You have a seperate vid card or an integrated vid. on your mainboard ?

Im not shure what it the minimum

RAM you need for good performance, 64 seems a bit low.

If you have a low end vid card, dont install high resolution modification add-ons, only low resolution ones.

Here are the game specs you need for CMBO:

166MHz Processor (Celeron, Pentium, Athlon, etc)

32MB of RAM

100MB of Hard Disk Space (approx.)

CD ROM Drive

DirectX 6.0 or higher compatible video card

DirectX 6.0 higher compatible sound card

28.8 modem or faster for multiplayer games

So your RAM is ok, now you need to get info about your vid card.

Note....if you purchased CMBO-SE (CDV version) then Hi-Res terrain graphics were installed automactically and will slow the game down with only 64 megs of ram...and if your using an integrated card like the i810 your not getting much memory for the 3D graphics(about 12 megs max).

More memory ( about 128 megs more) will work well but you should consider a 32 meg video card also.

Yes, I have CMBO SE. With that, 64 RAM isn't enough? Ugh. When I find my computer manual, I'll post the info about my video card.

You can download Lo-Res terrain graphics for the game that still look good( CMHQ). The version you have (CDV) use "mods"( for terrain and sound) made by other users that look better and more "crisp" then the original graphics..but put a strain on lower end computers.

Just by adding more memory will help...but a better video card will greatly improve framerate.
