nForce Chipset possible culprit?

Recommended Posts

First my specs:

Athlon XP 2800+ (NOT Dual Core)

Leadtek 6600GT 128MB -- latest Driver 162.18

1 GB RAM

Shuttle AN-35(N) Ultra Mobo

Win XP 2

BFC eVersion of CM:SF 1.02

Prior to patching I had never completed a battle. It would always do a black screen reboot after 5-10 minutes.

I eagerly installed the patch and started the game. I got a BSOD immediately with a message:

NVMCP.SYS DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

After Googlizing I found this error to be the Audio Codec for my nForce onboard Audio.

I updated all the nForce hardware on the board, Network, IDE and Sound.

Problem solved. No crashes yet.

If anyone else is using the nForce chipset on your motherboard, check it out.

This could be a fix for you.
